Offensive Line Predictions, Revisited

Citizen K is a historian. As such, he loves to examine the past, in order to glean knowledge and understanding of "the way things were." In the context of 12 Seahawks Street in 2006 A.D., this entails traveling back in time, back--way back--all the way back to April 1.

The poster: the venerable Bluefoot, (nee Boomdiggydiggy.)

The post title: "Changing of the Guard, Center, but Probably Not Tackle."

In this time-capsule thread, Blue challenges the 12SS regulars to "take a shot at predicting the starting five offensive linemen for game one of the regular season."

With the news out of team workouts that Pork Chop Womack is the nominal and apparent starting replacement for Steve "Agent-Whipped" Hutchinson, Citizen K thought it would prove instructive to revisit this instantly classic thread to see how the guys are doing so far in their predictions for the Hawks' 2006 starting offensive line.

It appears as though, so far, Alba, Bokonon and Citizen K are still in the running, as all three named Jones and Womack as the starting left side of the line. However, there's still hope for the deluded ADP, Check, Bluefoot, and Dave Crockett--there is still time before the season begins for Jones or Womack to go down with injury (knock on Shaq's overactive and apparently unrestrained member ) so there's still hope for your augury to prove portensious.

Not much hope, though. You four will no doubt cry yourselves to bed tonight after finding your divinations faulty. Thus is the life of a fan of professional football.

  1. Hmm. It looks like I may have the guards reversed. But there is still time. Holmgren may come to his senses.

Who in their right mind would father Shaq's children? Someone with a five gallon bucket birth canal? It's a good thing the procedure for Cesarean section is refined.

BTW, thanks for helping me to find my old 'Training your foam head' post.

  3. Boy I wish I remembered writing all that stuff. It sounds like I know what I'm talking about. I must have been solber.

I heard Gil Haskil on the radio Friday and he pretty much laid out the O-line as: Jones, Chop, Tobeck, Grey, Locklear--with Ash as the replacement for either guard. It came across like the guards were on a short leash now that they had Ash. First guard to slip is replaced by Ash. My Ash for Gray pick is looking pretty good.

Gil was also emphatic that Locklear would be the RT--there's absolutely no question in his or Holmy's mind about SL in that role. He rattled off several of the DE he handled by himself and it was impressive.

By the way, I was thinking about running out to the mini-camp for pictures but it wasn't open to the public, the bastards! Saw a little coverage on the local news...man I can't wait until August.

As opposed to NOW, quite obviously!

If the misspelling wasn't a give away, the double-post certainly was!

  10. OK I'll be the first to admint I've been known to put a few down when watching, attending, going too, coming from, remembering, reading, or thinking about a Hawk's game, but damn it this wasn't my fault.

First off, english is the most #$$#$ language to spell. Case in point, "The Ram's can suck my #@!$", is spelled the exact same way as, "The Ram's can likc my #@!$." C'mon people, this is my native tongue and I can't spell it for #@#$! There it is again.

Second, the comments section doesn't exactly work well in Firefox--which I find funny considering the whole blogger/firefox/google kabal. (Why the hell isn't that spelled with a 'C' by the way?) When you first bring up the comments, the first comment overlaps the article. That's not really a problem because it's just Alba's comment. But the real problem is that the post button dosen't always work. You click it once and it just refreshes the page--no post. Click it a second time and it will post 1-3 times depending some $%@$% logic invented by the Texans draft guru. Of course after it posts, Alba's comments no longer overlap the article.

So damn it, it's not my #%&*# fault. By the way... damn..dam..its..it's...by...buy...what the #@#$!

And if someone post that I should use a real browser like IE, shut the hell up. IE is a piece of #%#!@. Don't be an idiot. Get back to writing your finely crafted post explaining how the Hawks should trade Shawn to the 49ers for Trent Dilfer and bench Matt.

  11. I hope this doesn't overwrite the post, but that was laugh out loud funny!

  13. Mike Sando has an interesting take on the O-Line:

    I could see Jones-Womack-Spencer-Locklear-Willis in 2007.

Interesting, as he gets to view the players in practice personally, and gets input from coaches.

  14. Nice post Citizen K. Sorry I took a while to get over here to comment.

Of course, the coaches have laid out publicly what should be expected: a conference championship calibur unit with as little change as possible under the circumstances. With only the first mini-camp out of the way someone would have to be seriously underperforming, or expected to be lost, to have heard the coaches say otherwise.

Right now, at this moment the o-line the coaches are backing is--and should be--the most likely opening day lineup. But then if memory serves, prior to the first day of camp the most likely opening day linebacker trio for the 2005-2006 season was Chad Brown, Niko Koutividas/Orlando Huff, and D.D. Lewis.

I'm sure the coaches, right now, think that they'll just slide Pork Chop into Hutch's spot, keeping all the other starters in tact. We'll see if it plays out that way once the pads come on. ;-)

  15. In the Holms interview on Seahawks.com (I think) he said they're going to be testing Ashworth out at guard during training camp, even though they know he's a perrenial Tackle.

Might be they're looking for competition for Hutch's old spot, or giving Gray some competition for his. If the experiment doesn't work out, Ashworth's too expensive to ride the pine, so he may give the anti-Heather a run for his money for the RT job.

  16. If Boke's calmed down now, I'd like to point out that "cabal" is, indeed, spelled with a C.
