Welcome To Seahawks Street's 2006 NFL Draft Coverage!

Welcome to 12 Seahawks Street's 2006 NFL Draft Coverage.

This particular thread will be on top of the main page during the course of the 2006 draft. Below this topic, will be coverage on each draft pick the Seahawks use. After each pick, a person assigned to the pick will create a post regarding the prospect complete with pictures, information, and perhaps even a few scouting reports.

The following is assigned:

Round 4 - Gumbostu - Ohio St. OG Rob Sims
Round 5 - Gumbostu - USC FB Dave Kirtman
Round 6 - Josch (Green) .
Round 7 - ADP - Wake Forest P Ryan Plackemeir

More info on undrafted free agents on Mike Sando's blog.

I will link each thread after the assigned pick has one created. The links will be the player's name, which will follow the above list of assigned draft picks. (IE. When the first round pick is selected, and a post has been made by ADP, I will put the player's name after 'Round 1 - ' and in place of 'ADP', which will also serve as a link to the thread). That just makes it quicker to get to an early draft pick while the late ones start being announced.

Every thread/post will be updated alot, filled with as much info as you possibly can get. This whole thing was a success last year, so lets make it even better! Fellow admins, feel free to edit this topic.

In the meantime, enjoy the following draft day content:

Enjoy the draft, and GO SEAHAWKS!

  5. I like the draft. A number of "Ruskell Guys" who fit into the system. The Hawks seem like one of those New England types of teams: they have a master plan, and all acquisitions--whether draft or free agent--have a place in that scheme. The first two picks are evidence enough. Citizen K especially likes the punter pick--it's not often a team drafts the "best punter in college football." A future Pro-Bowler--in the sixth round!

Who is the 7th-round WR going to unseat--Urban or Hackett? (Bannister?) He seems like a great pickup; he's not used to being the go-to guy, so a season or three behind "My Two Sons" (Jackson and Burleson) will be a great role while he builds some strength. Come 2009 he'll be ready to take over for the too-expensive, 2-time NFL MVP, Darryl Jackson./

Overall, more defense from the draft, with the usual suspencts on offense. i wouldn't have minded seeing the Hawks draft another Tight End, though. Mili is getting old, and Stevens obviously has some work to do. The free agent pickup might be OK, but there's no reason not to push him in training camp with a younger draftee.

Citizen K really hopes the Hawks sign Will Derting as an undrafted Free Agent. As a fellow Coug, Citizen K feels for his underappreciatedness, but he realizes WD0's coming off some major injur(y)(ies.) I think it would be awesome if the Hawks did the Natural Thing and gave Derting a feeler. He's obviously got the skills, and is an amazingly hard worker. A healthy starting linebacking corps of Derting, Tatupu and Hill might be a tad undersized, but they'd be All-League in gamesmanship and heart (which are each worth an extra 4 points per game, on the average...)

  6. I hope nobody was actually expecting "scouting reports" on Burleson and Green... that was a joke. Get it?

Anywho, nice draft, agree with the general idea that drafting Macks replacement every year is getting a touch tired, but who knows, Weaver back to TE/H-back? Weaver to third RB? I prefer Weaver to Morris as far as running the ball, but I generally don't like Morris much outside of 3rd down duty.

I see Jennings starting this season if not immediately. I don't see any big name FA CBs (Law and... uhh... Law I guess) being signed, although we may see another June 1 guy in the Dyson or Herndon mold.

I see Tapp in the rotation, but I doubt he "starts" this season. He'll get 20 - 30% of the snaps in relief of Wistrom, and he'll get some sacks, even if its mostly just because the LT took that play off.

Punter... great. I suppose somebody has to pick em, don't care one way or the other, 7th round is the best place to draft them. I still lament Kluwe getting cut. Rue that day Mr. Ruskell, and know sir, you don't know punters!!! Anybody think this Plackemeir pick is a concession to the punting gods?

Sims, don't imagine you'll play much sir, I'd recommend getting a locker next to Gray, ideally between him and Pork.

Obomanu, you better be able to return a kick, or you'll be PS as best.
