Citizen K Likes This Award

This was a contest for the ages, well worth recording and watching over and over again, that is, if you're a fan of poor refereeing playing a monumental role in the outcome of a football game. Despite all that, the Hawks had a chance to win the game, for the most part outplaying their opponents at the latter's own home stadium. Oh, that the game site had been beautiful Boise, Idaho, where the Hawks fans could have made that type of showing, and it could have been Jerramy Stevens retiring after the game (which he can do, anyway, as far as Citizen K is concerned...) The Hawks did play inspired football, but once Manuel went down, the passing offense of the Steelers seemed to kick into gear. It was a game of momentum; the Hawks had a lot, but whenever they came close to climax, the cold shower of the officials bedrooped and bedraggled them once again. Frustrating it was, though quite entertaining. Did Citizen K find anything noteworthy to like?

  1. Like the poet's say, "better to have loved and lost, than to never had loved at all", but either way, you wake up on Monday with blue-balls!

I agree. I LOVE THIS TEAM!

There's enough missed opportunity to go around, and in true team fashion, we should not single out Hass, the Anti-Heather, Graybeard, College Rapist, or the punter who Rouened our field position all day. Not to mention the Walrus with the broken watch.

I refuse to call ourselves the "true" champs though, as that gives credence to the Giant, Cowboys and Rams fans who say they "shudda" beat us in the regular season.

After 29 seasons of half-heartedly saying "wait until next year", this is the first time I'm truly eager with anticipation while saying it.

It should be a LIVELY off season, to say the least, and hopefully we'll be able to build off the momentum of the best year in franchise history.

  2. Au Contraire, mon frer!

There is one HUGE NEW Monkey on our backs to deal with, which is the long streak of the Super Bowl Runner Up not even making the playoffs the following season. (see Philly, St. Louis, Tennesee, Carolina, etc.)

Given the number of variables heading into the off season, Holms, Alexander, Hutch, Hamlin, JJ, etc., if the right moves aren't made, we could very well continue in that unauspicious tradition.

However, I like to think of it as one more mountain for this group to climb, and I hope we have the whole group back to scale that peak.

  3. Point of clarification---Jurevicius is Lithuanian, not Slovakian.

    Go 'Hawks!

  4. I was ignorant of Jurevicius' heritage, so I just guessed.

  5. It's a bit big, but it gets the point across:

I also won't say that the 'Hawks are the real Super Bowl winners, but they are still the Champs! (The NFC Champs). I will never, ever, however, say that the Steelers won this game. The Seahawks indeed lost this game, but to the ref's, not to the Steelers.

    Super Bowl XFL Champs: Pittsburgh*

It was the XFL we watched yesterday, right?

    Okay, well, anyway...

PositivePaul likes CK's levity, and is thankful he was available via phone at halftime. Remember, folks, we're dealing with the blogger formerly known as "Munchausen" who wrote this most excellent piece on baseball that most certainly applies to NFL football as well (if not even moreso). I still agree with him that these emotions we're feeling right now are not real.

There are bigger injustices going on in the world right now than what happened in Ford Field yesterday. I know it's hard to believe, but trust me there are...

  6. I LOVE THIS TEAM. I wanted to say that again cause i really do.Great job again CitK. You read my mind after the game i was like we either need Itula healthy wuick or draft a TE cause Stevens isn't cutti it damit.

The road looks good ahead. Free agency should be fun.

Earlier in the season i thought we would lock up Alexander, now i think he's gonna walk, but this is a coming from a guy who was furious at the drafting of Lofa Tatupu.

    * alba's note: I would have killed to have Bernie Kucar do this game. He's a better ref than Evil Leavy.

  9. pretty much whats been said, I echo...love this team to death

    free agency should be wild

our players will probably either be pissed or depressed when the Pro Bowl comes around (should be weird to watch our Seahawks taking on the Steelers' defensive players...if Joey Porter runs his mouth...man I hope the Seahawks whip their asses)

i still say we're the best team in football...but since noone likes saying 'we're the real champs'...then I wont go that far...but we are #1...plus we get a better draft pick then the #1 team usually gets!
