The first thing I'd do is fire Mike Holmgren...

And so goes the payoff line from the "bizzaro world" NFL Network commercial where every fan's prediction about the 2005 season turns out to be dead wrong.

So what would be the corrected non-bizzaro-world translation?

Signing him to an Extension!

I have it from a reliable source that Tim Ruskell and company are taking another step toward retaining their own free agents, and the final details are being worked out to keep coach Mike for two more seasons!

Look for an official announcement sometime within the next few weeks.

  1. Wow... You've got reliable sources? You're hitting the big time, baby!

The is absolutely no question in my mind that Holmgren is an elite NFL coach, and needs to be retained. I felt that way when many fans were calling for his head in'04, for a host of reasons. The intelligence, experience, personality and character of Holmgren are on a level that few attain.

On the other hand, If Holmgren still has a Jones to have GM added to his title, he needs to do it somewhere else. Ruskell is the man for that, and he complements Holmie well. With Ruskell as GM and Holmgren as coach, this team is going to be a contender year after year.

  2. I never wanted Holmgren fired ever, ever, not when almost everybody else wanted him fired i did want him to run the ball more but not fire him.

Anyways Holmgren is hall of fame coach and i don't care what anybody else says. The guy is an offensive genius and can take almost any offense and turn them into greatness. I really do hope we sign him i really do. Don't wanna see Mike go no no.

Seahawks | No change in Holmgren talks

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports there is no progress in talks of a contract extension for Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren, whose contract expires after the season. The only change is that he's more willing to talk about an extension after the NFL Draft.
