There's a New Marshall In Town!

In a long anticipated move, Mike Sando is reporting that the Seahawks have finally made it official, moving John Marshall into the Defensive Coordinator's spot and shifting Ray Rhodes into a consultant's role.

“They switched offices now,” coach Mike Holmgren quipped from the NFL owners meetings Tuesday. “John got the big office.”

Marshall, 60, had refused to take Rhodes’ office last season out of respect. Rhodes, 55, had been Seattle’s coordinator since 2003.

The two will continue to work together, but now their titles will reflect each man’s responsibilities.

In other moves, Former quality control coach Zerick Rollins has taken over for Marshall as linebackers coach, and former Ram Defensive Coordiator Larry Marmie will be working with Teryl Austin in coaching the defensive backs.

Apparently, the front office is working to improve the defensive in other ways besides bringing in better players through free agency.
GO SEAHAWKS!!!

Besides, I'm "playing hurt" today, I'm home with a bad sore throat. (like I'm gonna get sympathy from THIS crew!)

  8. I like that move, for two reasons:

    Hes young.

    and

It keeps him from being the D Coord elsewhere...lets face, it was quickly becoming a hot commodity, and could of gotten a full time D Coord job elsewhere...so this locks him here...good stuff

Leave it to alba to complain about a sore throat while i barfed out my mcdonalds milk shake hours ago...

  10. ADP - according to the Sando story, Marshall is actually 5 years OLDER than Rhodes. I couldn't believe it, since Rhodes looks like he's about 90!

    And Brokeback....Ewwwww!

  11. In 2005 the defense was one of the biggest turn arounds. Now with all the players and all we can't point to Marshall as the reason it all changed but he couldn't hurt. I like this move never really like Rhodes and Marshall was doing a superb job. Rhodes is still there to advice him and that can't hurt. I hope Ray is back to 100%.

I wonder what kind of new blitzes and coverages he will design with Peterson in. I guess we don't need the nickel for a 3 reciever set since Peterson can be mached up against a reciever.

Playin hurt huh alba i was sick as a dog during MY SPRING BREAK now beat that you get to miss work and i got to miss partying.

  12. you gotta be kidding me...right?

you're gonna say april fool's, right?

well damn...make that one reason...more important one though...i mean hes been taken off the market so to speak

all we needed was someone to offer him a job, and put posion pills in it so we couldnt possibly match...

  13. coaches don't count against the cap and Paul Allen is our owner. We can match anything.

  14. He's **ONLY** 60?!?!

When did 60 become young? Are we suddenly the Buffalo Bills? Marv Leavy says hire the kid.

  15. Way to go Blue, you single handedly managed to hurt the feelings of all 60 year olds, or older...

A crushing blow to our site, losing the 60+ demographic...

Now we need damage control...if you're over 60, and sign up to our email system, you get free teeth containers!

  20. I like that Ray will still be involved in what he's best at...... player evaluation.

And I agree with all, Marshall is a great move, and I think he's the next step toward this defense being the best in the league.

    GO HAWKS!!!!!

by the way.....love what you did with the place.
