Teams are set. Date is set. Seahawks are set!
Next Sunday Seattle will play Carolina for the rights to represent the NFC in the Superbowl. With the way both teams played today, I don't see them coming into Seattle and coming out with a win.
Let the analysis begin!
GO SEAHAWKS!!!
with Indy losing, we're obviously the front team, and hopefully the Panthers listen to the media, because suddenly we're the worse team left, accdording to Don Banks, sportsnation, and whoever else...
ReplyDeleteI feel the Panthers are too tired, and theyre too inconsistent to beat us...the reason? they have had 2 good games in a row...3 would be unheard of for them this year.
Hass will have to make smart decisions again because this secondary is DANGEROUS...should be fun watching our oline vs. their dline...
I think its a good matchup, but traveling to Seattle, hopefully with rain, the 12th man...i dont know how theyll beat us...
should we win, expect another crowd noise penalty in effect next year---no way the NFL wants to see their plans unfold like they did (im specifically talking about the obvious screwjob witht he Colts...i saw a safety earlier that wasnt called one)
ill break this game down later...i say we have the advantage...just double Smith, NO MATTER WHAT...someone might step up or whatever, but i rather deal with that person in one-on-one then Smith...double him, and the game is ours
---but our offense has to be more efficient...and the ST better stop choking!...I know Scoobs and Williams have never been on championship calibur teams before, but damnit thats no excuse to choke and make dumb decisions
Can you beleive it? It's easier to breathe with the 500 lb 22 year old gorilla off our back. It really does seem like the clouds have parted.
ReplyDeleteBut now, think about it:
Indianapolis is out.
New England is out.
The only teams left are Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Denver.
I like our chances...
But this Sunday is going to be the toughest of the season. Steve Smith is uncoverable .
DeShaun Foster is out with a broken ankle, but they'll just replace him with another average RB.
I think the key to the game is going to be pounding the crap out of Delhomme, before he can get the ball to Smith.

We all must have been typing at the same time! Oh well.
ReplyDeleteSmith has been facing double teams all season, especially lately. He's deadly anyway. He's really the key to the game to me, much like keeping Moss under wraps was.
Steve Smith cannot hurt us while he's sitting on the bench with the rest of his offense watching Matt, Shaun and the boys burning up the game clock on long, protracted, scoring drives.
ReplyDeleteOur offensive line should keep their aggressive defense in check. Matt has to play well, no more 'whirley-bird' prayers under pressure. Shaun can't fumble any more, and no more concussions.
And speaking of fumbles, let's remind our ST unit that the S stands for Special and not Slip-up.

Carolina, they have an alright team but they can't beat Seattle. They have a effective defense but Seattle has too many options for them to handle.Chicago moved the ball on them effectively for a few drives.
ReplyDeleteOn a defensive standpoint double team Steve Smith. Deshaun Foster wasn't that good and he's gone next week. Their run game won't be all that good and we shouldn't fall for the play action. Its games like this that make me miss Ken Hamlin.
We can't afford turnovers in this game.
There is no reason Carolina can come to Seattle and win.

Cit K, I told my wife and all her family at a fairly large family gathering, that the Colts would LOSE to the Steelers, I guaranteed it, EVERYONE laughed of course, but I, like you, have been saying all season that the Colts haven't palyed anyone. At least I said that till they played the Chargers, and lost, then the Hawks and lost again. The Colts, as my wife called them, are just the medias latest wet dream, they are not substantive. They are a team, much like the 116 win Mariners, who are geared to win regular season games, but not playoffs, sisnce they have no defense still, and no real running game. Did you guys realize that the Colts do not have a Full Back? I know that might not sound like a big deal, but seriously, how does anyone expect that team to ever win the big games, when they don't even have a lead blocker? THis is just not as good a team as most, (not me and Cit K) people think they are, they are VASTLY overrated as I have said all season long.
ReplyDeleteI said the same thing about the Bears, with absolutely ZERO offense and a HORRIBLE QB.
I believe it was week six, when ADP and I said that the two best NFC teams were the Seahawks and Panthers, we both said that Panthers were the #2 NFC team...yes I truly am a genius, of that there can be no question.
ReplyDeleteSo far I have picked ever single playoff game correctly. ALthough next week I am not as certain about the AFC Championship game, that one could go either way, but right now I am leaning towards Denver, I think it will be a Denver/Seattle SuperBowl, but we shall see.
scared me there for a sec monkey...i thought u skipped me altogether in the 'we're right' group...people treated Indy like they were a STEP above the league...they were right on the same level as us and Denver as the 3 best (the two balanced teams advanced)...
ReplyDeletein the playoffs, its a noticeable trend that shootout teams usually dont last long...Cincy is gone, Indy is gone, just like the Rams, Indy, Green Bay all didnt go too far last year...you HAVE to have a defense...and Seattle has always had one, just the pass defense took a hit STATISTICALLY because of the injuries...we're at full strength now...and notice what happened.
Carolina gave up a ton of points to the BEARS...quite possibly one of the bottom 3 offenses in the NFC---ive said the Bears sucked balls all year, in part for LUCK, then their defense---but they still didnt belong in the playoffs and benefitted from the WEAKEST DIVISION...at least SF had a tough schedule, the Cardinals did suck, but the Rams were competitive when healthy (people forgot that? huh?)...the Bears were in the bottom half of the NFC, and they proved my point
The score from the game tonight was not an indication of how good the Bears are...its an indication of how overrated the Panthers are (right now, anyways...they are the 2nd best team whether the Eagles are healthy or not, in the NFC)
to be honest, i predicted every team in every division, but the only ones that matter were my final four---i nailed 3 of them...Pittsburgh was with San Diego on my 'show me you can repeat last year again' list...when the playoff began, i made my routes...and bullseyed them all
oh, and one more thing...when the Eagles were a personal bridge for teams to get to the SB---and when they got to one themselves---not one 'expert' mentioned their creampuff schedules...jackasses
we have more experts on this site then the there is in the national media---sad, but FACT...man when me and monkey are around on the same day, it makes the same sound Dennis Miller's career did when he first appeared on Monday Night Football

A bunch of my friends were ridin the colts bandwagon this year and kept on talkin bouat how great they were. I knew the Colts weren't goin to the Superbowl i even told them they would lose to the Steelers and this was in November.
ReplyDeleteI had to toot my own horn
Posted by o-meezy
Oh and one more thing...i called the San Diego win
ReplyDeleteIts no coincidence the Colts plummeted after getting cocky going for that undefeated season...that team was healthy at the time...what happened?...lose their first attempt after gaining HFA, lose starters to injury in that game, get embaressed by Seattle before they pulled their starters (especially their defense...ouch), Dungy's tragedy, they only beat Arizona because of a bad call as the clock ran out, first round exit in the playoffs (technically)
I recall saying it a thousand times...you play with matches---and i called it---you're gonna get burned.
Too soon to brag about saying the Hawks were 'this close' to the SuperBowl?
ReplyDeleteProbably, huh.

The thing is, the Colts remind me an awful lot of the 80's Chargers teams with Dan Fouts at QB and all those great recievers. THey were a team built to score a ton of points and win regular season games, but when it came to the playoffs, everyone knew the recipe for beating them. It was the same recipe as the one for the Colts, BLITZ BLITZ BLITZ!
ReplyDeleteWhy? Because when a team is so pass happy, and they are not the kind of team that can load it up and move teams on the ground, you can get away with blitzing, without paying for it with big runs. How do you stop a blitzing team? Run the ball. If you can't run the ball? You can't stop a blitzing team. The Colts, like that 80's Chargers team, do not have a fullback, who can open extra running holes and stay in to block and pick up blitzes. They also do not have an OLine that is used to pushing the DLine, they are a step back and pass block OLine like the Dolphins OLine of the Marino era, (another team built to win in the regular season, but not in the playoffs).
The point is, the Colts, until they add a fullback, a bigger defense, and a more run oriented OLine and approach will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER...you get the point...win the big game. They will always be the medias wet dream because they look so pretty, but when a physical team that can run the ball and blitz comes to town, like the Chargers this year, or like the Steelers, the Colts will get their butts kicked. They are just not built to win playoff games.
And you heard that insightful analysis here first, you will not hear that kind of analysis anywhere else, because the media hasn't figured it out yet.
ReplyDeleteTwo or three more years of losing in the playoffs, and the media will start to get the picture. Problem is, the media, (retards all) will blame the wrong people. They will say that it's all the fault of the defense, (not true) or all the fault of Mannigns lack of leadership, (again not true). They will call Manning the Marino of this era, (that will be true), but they will miss the real connection between Marino, Manning and Fouts, who were all terrific QB's who put up ungodly numbers.
The connection is that they all played on teams geared to win regular season games, and geared to put up gaudy numbers through the air, but were not able to stop blitzing defenses, because they could not consistently run the ball.
Not that Edge isn't a good runnig back, he is. Heck the Chargers had good RB's too, like Chuck Muncie who was just like Edge, in that he put up great numbers but without adequate blocking up front, got shut down in playoff games.
So next year, when the media starts drooling alll over the Colts latest winning streak, just remember that when it comes playoff time, the first physical team they play against...bet them to lose, cuz it's a lock.
Man, I'm feeling smarter just for hanging around with you guys. Now don't everyone wind up on the IR with tendenitis of the elbow from reaching around and patting yourselves on the back too much!!!
ReplyDeleteJust joshing, cuz I didn't predict SHIT! I had the Seahawks going 11-5 at the start of teh season, although they won half the games I thought they'd lose, and lost a couple that I thought they'd win.
THIS IS THE BEST SEASON I REMEMBER IN MY 30 YEARS OF BEING A FAN, AND A LARGE PART OF THAT ENJOYMENT IS YOU GUYS AND THIS BLOG!
(P.S. wish me luck, I've got the green light from the wife, so if my friend in Seattle can score tickets, I'm going to the game!)

Oh yeah? Well I just wanted everyvody to know that I predicted the final scores of all four games this weekend BEFORE THE SEASON BEGAN. I actually predicted Carolina's win against the Bears in 1990, a full THREE YEARS before they came into existence.
ReplyDeleteI keed, I keed... you guys know your stuff. But monkey, part of what makes the Colts so good - and they ARE good, just not championship-caliber - is that Manning tends to be exceptional against the blitz. He makes quick reads and check-downs, and this season he consistently hit receivers on a quick slants to make little chunks of yardage. And if you didn't put a hit on Manning, look out. Watch the Clark TD catch -- you know something big is gonna happen when Indy picks up that LB blitz. The difference against Pittsburgh yesterday is that for three quarters Peyton didn't have his usual accuracy. He was rusty.
The real lesson, I think: don't rest those starters so much. It's better to keep your starters sharp going into the playoffs and risk the chance of injury. I mean, it's F-ing FOOTBALL. People get hurt. Hell, you can lose a key part of your team to a beating outside a nightclub (please, please, come back next season, Ken); on good teams, players step up to fill that void.

ReplyDeleteBWHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAAAAA!!!!
Oh, and contain Smith and you contain the Panthers (obviously!), and the best way to contain him is to put him out. Barring that, they should flip Dyson to Smith no matter what, and allow Tru to stay with Carter/Proel, whoever is outside. And have Boulware over Smith always. Nick Goings is a good plodder, I have faith that the LBer's can contain him if they play disciplined, no reason to think they won't. I can't see Carolina winning this game, even if Smith were to have a game like he just had, Seattle should win a shootout. D-Jack likes to beat ex-Seattle CB's, welcome back Ken, enjoy you game-check, don't spend it all on the way home.

Uff, on the flipside of Manning picking up blitzes well---he may be the most immobile QB in the league...once you get to him---you got him...
ReplyDeleteto me, the Colts dont look much different then what our team should of been the last two years, if our entire defense wasnt on the IR---now we have a defense :)
and the Colts dont have a Lofa about what Tatupu (or to do)

I just read these goofy comments about the hawks, granted there in the NFC title game so they must be doing something right, but you people keeping talking "Foster is hurt"," double team Smith" and it shows an inept football knowledge. Jake Delhomme should scare every team by the way he plays in playoff situations, he was 2 minutes away from being 6-0 in the playoffs as well as a Super Bowl champ. He is a fiery competitor with that refuse to lose attitude. I think ya all better start thinking about stopping Mr.Delhomme because he is the player that will win or lose it for Carolina. Oh yeah the defense is damn good too, shoulda held on to Ken Lucas. dc

Well done on your opening statement, that'll get you some debate. Please, break the game down with your vastly superior football knowledge.
ReplyDelete"Jake Delhomme should scare every team by the way he plays in playoff situations " In what way? He has to throw to somebody, Smith is the default. Delhomme's not much of a scrambler, and unless Carter shows up (he may, wicked fast, lack of experience...) I don't see another game breaker outside of Smith. Proehl is more than adequate as a third WR, but that is what he is, more of a move the chains/clutch guy. Colbert hasn't panned out, no need to think he will this game. Goings is arguably the best #3 RB in the league, but I think he's more of a plodder, and Seattle defends those types of backs well. In fact, they defend all kinds of backs well .
Re defense, yes, they are, but the Seattle offense is pretty good. Decent matchup for the Panthers, they have good corners to go against the good Seattle WRs.
Ken Lucas was too expensive, I'm sure the team would've loved to keep him, but with the costs of corners these days, Dyson and Herndon for less $$ was probably a better move, giving the Seahawks 3 good corners, much like the Cats.
