Championship Prediction Thread

I have wanted to do this here ever since I saw it on other sites, so here we go.

This post will serve as our official 12 Seahawks Street NFC Championship game predictions thread.

Here's mine, Seahawks 27 Panthers 19
The panthers will have to settle for four field goals and only one T.D. and in the end just will not have enough offensive weapons to keep up with the Seahawks.

Now you try it, the guy who gets closest to the correct final score will win...ummm...the right to brag about how you are a genius.

I agree that the Panthers get mostly field goals throughout the game, and get a cheap TD late that really doesn't matter.

Shaun Alexander runs for over 100 yard and 3 TDs, and JJ and and Stevens get the other two. Josh Brown adds a meaningless FG late when it really no longer matters.

    Panthers 20

I think the Panthers score late to make it that close. I really don't see them hanging with us if we get our offense clicking and avoid stupid turnovers. The bend but don't break D is going to keep them out of the end zone most of the game. Smith may break a big play or two, but not enough to make a difference.

  3. 24-21, 2 tds, 2 fgs, one 2 pt conversion (late) for the Panthers. Kasay misses the potentially game tying kick, but fairly early, say 3 mins left, the Hawks put it on cruise and run the clock out. The fairly early part will save my coffee table from making a trip through the window onto the screen porch. If it's a last play miss, anybody know a good marriage counselor/glass guy?

Why mess around with predictions of 24-13 and such? While these may be correct, they are not the type of predictions I'll make for a once-every-twenty-years game (hopefully the next drought will be shorter). I predict 42-17 with the Panthers picking up a late score to make the game look closer than it really is (tongue firmly planted in cheek).

  7. 11 mini-Holgrens against the Panthers, who wins?

    Holmgrens, 216-3.

(I'm too terrified of jinxing the 'Hawks to make a real prediction.)

  9. Pick: People can nitpick the Seahawks all they want, but the record says how good they are. Seahawks, 27-21.

(let's add the pundit's picks here too, so we can document who was right and who is an assmunch!)

  10. Hmmmmm.... I really like the score you picked, monkey, but I HAVE to be different.

I'm gonna say Seahawks win, 27-16. That is my official prognostication. Field goals seem to be a bit elusive in the Q. But I also think on one of those field goals could turn into a touchdown because of a bogus PI call, and make the result 27-20.

Seahawks in the Super Bowl baby! Beleive it!

  11. Good point Jay. Foxsports/Football Outsiders  picks Seahawks, no score prediction.

As do the bookies, Seahawks are 3.5 to 4 point favorites.

Don Banks says the Pathers "could" win... way to go, I'd say they could win. I don't believe they will, but they could.

Don C, also of SI, picks the Cats in the Superbowl, so I guess by proxy he picks them to win this week.

I can't read his crap, but Dr. Z apparently thinks either the Pats or Colts will win, since that is what he's talking about today.

And most of the Sportsline guys pick the Cats.

  16. Listening to the Dan Patrick show today, all the bigs at ESPN but him are picking the black pussies. (My terminology, not his).

This, even though he picked the cats to go to the SB in preseason. I guess he's smart, because no matter who wins, he can say to players at the big show, "You know, I picked you to be here!"

  17. 1st drivewe will drive 80+ yards down the field and Hasselbeck will throw to Bobby Engram in the back of the endzone while rolling to the righ.

Andre Dyson will intercept Jake delhome in there 1st drive and and take it to the house.

Shaun Alexander scores a touchdown on a scamper.

Lofa Tatupu intercepts Delhome takes it to the house and then starts punchin the goal post.

Leroy Hill hits Goings in the mouth and causes him to fumble. Dyson recovers and scores a touchdown, and then he tweaks his ankle but nothin seriouse he returns.

Michael Boulware intercepts the ball returns it to the 2 yard line. Alexander takes it from there and scores a touchdown.

we force a few more turnovers during the game.

The onlytime the Panthers put the ball into the endzone is an icomplete pass in the last play of the game.

    Final Score 42-0 I had a vision

I ralized my vision was playbaks from the Eagles game.

    Real Score 31-17 Hawks

  18. Considering I was spot on for both predicting the 20-10 'Hawks win, and their NFC Title Game opponent, listen closely:

    Seattle: 17
    Carolina: 14

Seattle vs. Denver in SuperBowl Extra Large.

Going to be a tough defensive battle, really.

My pre season pick was a Seattle- Pittsburg Superbowl but now that it may come to pass I'm actually hoping for an old school AFC west shoot em up with Seattle and Denver.

Ooohhh, all the media based on the East Coast would just LOVE THAT.

  28. Let me see if I have this right. The Bears no attack offense scored 21 points on the Panthers, when the Bears averaged 16 points per game during the season? This tells me that either the Panthers defense isn't that good or that the Bears were a lot better on offense than were given credit for. I believe its the former. The Hawks scored 20 on the Redskins, even with no MVP and 3 turnovers. Could have been 40.

The Panthers are one dimensional and will be exposed on Sunday, by a very well balanced team, the Seahawks!
I don't know what the score will be, but the Hawks will win by at least 2 td's!

  32. If Charlotte is so a po-dunk why do we have more Fortune 500 companies headquartered here, why are people moving here in droves? Let's talk about Washington, the state that has given us what: Microshaft - thanks for spreading viruses and blue screens of death worldwide. Grunge music - thank god Kurt Cobain swallowed the shotgun to finally put an end to that crap. Starbucks Coffee: It's Mecca for yuppy wanna-be's. They now have a place to get together and talk about social injustice while they sip ther $14 lattes. BTW, how is that monorail thing going? Saving any trees?

  35. I'm not going to waste time talking poorly about a city I've never been to. I have no problem with the Carolinas. But I do object to people that take shots at Washington without knowing what they're talking about.

Lets see, what else is good about Washington.... How about how freaking clean it is? The only state where you can find rain forest, desert, plains, mountains, glaciers, bays, volcanoes, rivers, lakes, sounds and islands. Add Boeing to the list of revolutionary companies founded here.

And output, why is it that Washington is one of the only states that is allowed (or used to be) to negotiate international trade contracts?

And to bad mouth Nirvana means you are a dimwit and are missing the big picture all together. Yes, Seattle gave us grunge music, but realize that was an entire music revelution, the creation of a new Genre, something that only happens a handful of times ever.

And while we're at it, why not add some other music revolutionaries to that list, like oh, i don't know... Jimi Hendrix?

I've been to about half of the states in the US, and not one ranks up there with Washington on my list of great places to live. Oregon is close, but it's not the same. So if your going to attempt to bad mouth it, find something better, but's that's still gonna be damn hard. I could go on for days, but I don't think you can....

  37. Wow, it never ceases to amaze me how serious folks take these things. It is a football game, no need to bash each other's cities and the people that live there. Who says only people in Charlotte rape animals?????? That is such an off the wall statement it makes me wonder. The point I wanted to make is that the Panthers lost Superbowl XXXVIII by a last second field goal, they came back and scored a ton of fouth quarter points with the help of execellent 4th quarter QB Delhomme. Noticed my score prediction of 24-21 Panthers? Seahawks will be on the other end of a last second field goal to win this time. WE ARE THE CARDIAC CATS!

  38. "Who says only people in Charlotte rape animals??????  " If someone performed little reseach on this subject... never mind.

"Seahawks will be on the other end of a last second field goal to win this time. " AHA!!! Kasay has been pretty good lately, but Quest is a difficult place to kick, see Feely, Jay . I predicted the same score as you, but opposite, and a missed FG to keep the game from OT.

  40. Here's how I see it (sound of everyone hushing in anticipation)...

This is a dead even matchup of the NFC's top two teams. Yes, the Seahawks were a little better and more consistent in the regular season, that's why the game's in Seattle instead of Charlotte. However, Yosef's argument is dead on - if we got to play St. Louis, Arizona, and San Fran (all 10+ loss teams) twice this year and the 'Hawks had to face Tampa and Atlanta twice we could quite possibly swap records. Even still, a slight edge has to go to the Seahawks. That said, this is January, and somehow the crazy Cajun in the #17 jersey always finds a way to get it done in January. In a truly epic struggle, Panthers 27 - Seahawks 24.

    Also...

It will be close, but Carolina hasn't faced a QB of the ability and tenacity of Hasselbeck, and the Hawks will pull this out on offense.

Hmmm... I seem to remember wins this year over Favre, Vick (twice), and some guy named Brady...

  41. Playing against Favre is basically 11 against 1, he doesn't have much of a team around him and Vick is very over rated, the Seahawks have beaten them the last couple of years too.

Really the Giants are not a very good football team at this point and da' Bears? One dimensional. Both with bad/inexperienced quarterbacks.

The 'Hawks Panthers matchup however is going to be fantastic. I think it is going to be a really great game pitting strength against strength. Seattles potent , balanced attack will cause a lot of problems for Carolina, it will be quite different from their earlier playoff games. And Seattles D? All of that team speed should help slow down smith.

  44. This will be a fantastic game, can't wait for Sunday. And yes, playing Favre wasn't quite fair this year and Vick is overrated. But Brady? No one touched that one. Hasselbeck's good, don't get me wrong - he completely deserves to be starting the Pro Bowl this year - but to say we've never faced anyone of his caliber might be stretching it just a bit. And Charlotte and Seattle - both fantastic cities.

  45. well u cant go that far...

I believe without a doubt in my mind Hasselbeck is one of the top 5 QBs in the NFL...i know it might sound strange to some, but lets face it...noone knows anything about Seattle...and Hass, like Shaun...has been consistently this good for years...for some reason they didnt get noticed much until this year...

Oh, and statistically speaking, Hass is better then Favre---obviously i dont think he is career wise, but technically his career rating is among the top 10 QBs of all time...obviously too early to tell...just a lil known fact

  46. Here you go Panther fans...you want to see our problem with the media?

Bayless may be a hack in his own right...but this is what we go through every time our team wins a game...excuses, excuses, excuses...amazing how we deserve absolutely NOTHING this season...not the MVP, not the playoffs, whatever...and you mean to tell me Seattle cant make it in the AFC West? wtf...noone noticed us beating the hell out of the Colts BEFORE they took their starters out...but whatever

We dont recognizition...we just want the uncalled for ignorant bashing to stop...we dont deserve to be treated like a 2-14 team.

  48. to be honest, i think Shaun is staying put...our FA crop isnt irreplaceable...

there is this crappy rule that might hurt us...Hutchinson is a definitely lock up must, BUT we cant franchise him...Guards get way less money then Tackles, but this rule states that ANY olinesmen franchised gets the average of the top 5 OLINESMAN---not Guards---in the league...its crappy, and would mean a 3 mill player getting 8 mill...bleh

so depending on that will prolly give us results on Shaun...if Shaun leaves, we're definitely drafting someone (man i wish we could get Deangelo Williams somehow)...im confident something will work out

I cant speak for other teams, but our cap guru, Mike Reinfeldt is an ACE at fitting players into the cap without corrupting our future

Thats just a nice catch, can't argue with that. Though I've been skimming, I think yosef may not be a dickhead (that's pretty high praise, so please don't take it the wrong way).

One thing that bothers me is how common people refer to the "weakness" of the teams Seattle has beaten, particularly the NFC west. No, they aren't great teams, but keep in mind that their records have two losses against them because of the team your saying had the easy schedule. My point is, maybe St. Lois is 8-8 if they don't play Seattle, apply that logic to SF and ARI. Seattles opponents, of course have a lowere win percentage, cause they lost 13 freaking games to SEATTLE!
