Guest Analysis from Dave

I got the following e-mail from one of our blog site visitors:

Albany Hawker,

I've been a Hawks fan since 1984 and as you can imagine I'm enjoying the ride big time. I usually link to your blog through Sportspyder.com.

At any rate, a few days ago, just prior to the start of spring semester classes here at "the other" USC, I was on Football Outsiders.com tooling around their stats archive just looking for some insights into the divisional matchup with Washington. I found myself writing. One thing led to another and five pages of analysis later I have a write up on the game that's looking for a home.

I don't know if you guys publish guest blogs at all but I'd love for your team to consider posting this analysis on 12 Seahawks Street.

  2. Thank goodness that there's someone I can now point too that thinks way too much about this stuff. Nice job.

  3. wow, nice breakdown...puts some of those 'experts' to shame.

im not a huge fan of footballoutsiders myself, but that was broken down well.

cant disagree with the final score, either...i think the bend dont break defense might be huge...Washington drive 75 yards downfield, gaining confidence...only to be shunted to a field goal...and lose it lol love it...though i almost always pull some hair out enduring it

  4. JoSCh - I keep telling people that this Seattle team has what seems like an unusually large number of guys with S. Carolina ties (Engram, Boulware, MoMo, Darby, and somebody else I think I'm forgetting). Where are you, by the way?

bokonon - Yeah, I started writing this while I should have been working on my lectures and trying to get tenure. I hope you appreciate the sacrifice ;)

ADP - not a fan of FO? For shame :( Just kidding actually. I will say this about FO, they really do some very innovative stuff that provides insight beyond the typical huffing and grunting that often passes for commentary. Like any stat, DVOA doesn't tell you everything you need to know but it does cut through a lot of the hype.

  5. not to worry though, im not a fan of many other sites for the NFL...

PFW is good, FO is ok...the rest have a few bad apples that spoil it for me...

Besides, I make my own opinion on actually watching games instead of listening to the media like 99% of the world does :) (not to mention have the 'experts' dont seem to even watch the games)

This is the #1 site when it comes to Seattle, for the NFL as a whole...im not so sure

    Welcome to the site, :)

  7. "Thank goodness that there's someone I can now point too that thinks way too much about this stuff. " Bo, that's why you're here isn't it?

"im not a huge fan of footballoutsiders myself, but that was broken down well" Huge mistake, FO has no agenda, it's facts. They don't care about what you or the media thinks. Den and KC are the best teams right now in their eyes. And they're probably right!

"Where are you, by the way? " Charleston, Mt Pleasant to be specific. Game on at my house tomorrow if you are local. 843.478.8126.

  8. JoSCh,

we'll definitely have to talk about hooking up when/if the Hawks move on. I'm up in Columbia but love Charleston - well, who doesn't right? My girlfriend and I always spend a few days in Kiawah over New Year's.

AT THE BEACH ON NEW YEARS PEOPLE!!! (A bit too cool to get in the water though.) You just can't beat that... unless you're romantic about the snow.
