Ah, the symbolism! As you found it not understandable, allow me to translate.
The main character: A lonely Seahawk fan. At first, seemingly proud, determined and sure of direction.
The setting: Dark, lonely and isolated. The music, aptly taken from "Walk Like an Egyptian", reminds the Seahawk that he is so remote and forgotten, he might as well be in "BumF___, Egypt", but at the same time encouraged to keep the course; he must continue to walk this way, because as difficult as it might become, this remoteness will eventually become his greatest asset should he learn to embrace it.
But the music, interestingly enough, is stuck in a loop. It seems as though he is not getting anywhere. While at first he bounced with joy at his prospects, the body language of the Seahawk begins to demonstrates restlessness and a sad demeanor. As the loop continues, he becomes more and more frustrated and unsure of his direction, and for a while disappears altogether (ala the Behring years).
But alas, the Seahawk returns! with new vigor and steadfastness, he matures and feels his pride once again. However, he turns to the left and the right, setbacks have once again made him unsure of his direction. But he finally enjoys a new degree of success, which is represented by the outtake of "Go Hawks Go!!!".
This represented the win streak this season that finally enabled the Seahawks to break through the "Same Old Seahawks" mantra of years past.
Enter supporting character, Seahawk #2, which represents the newly hatched legion of fans that has climbed aboard since the occurence of newfound success. Although still in Egypt, both find an abundance of joy as they now suppourt the team in a unified direction, demonstrated by their spooning to the left. They embrace, showing that they learned to rely on each other for support, and the dark remoteness of their situation no longer bothers them.
Together they enjoy even more success, represented again by the outtake of "Go Hawks Go!!!". This was the playoff breakthrough.
Then the film ends abruptly. Why? Because the end is not yet. The conclusion is not yet determined. The Super Bowl must be won.
And so you have it- 30 years of Seahawks history in 30 seconds.
I have to admit, when I saw the words "awesome," "Seahawks," and "video" together, I was kind of expecting an awesome Seahawks video. Like, you know, Hass TD passes and monster hits by the D. As I watched, I found myself echoing the girl from Geico's Tiny House: "This is NOT awesome."
Much thanks to Citizen K, whose deconstruction kept that from being a total waste of time. Once I could see it through the lens of "The Alchemist," it was all good.
"when I saw the words "awesome," "Seahawks," and "video" together, I was kind of expecting an awesome Seahawks video " BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
That one should win something at Cannes. It's no "Gay cowboys eating pudding", but it is messed up enough to win. And Blue, I think you have a job waiting for you writing about crappy movies that win at Cannes. BTW, IMO, if stuff don't blow up or girls don't git nekkid, the movie sucks. I'm a simple American man.
I'm not sure what to say after seeing that...
ReplyDeleteHow about "Go Hawks GO!" ?!?!
