Now that I've been around the Carolina Panters' block (that's my new nickname for them), I thought I'd share some things I learned.
1. There is a blog we can pick on.
2. Charlotte is either a good name for an ugly little dog or the ugly girl with glasses that you knew in school that picks her boogers.
3. They think they will thrive in the noise of Qwest Field, because the hostile Giants crowd actually motivated them.
4. They have smart fans that really know how to break a team down and analyze.
5. These fans really know how to estimate talent.
6. Carolina Sucks.
That's all for now.
GO SEAHAWKS!!!
I don't know about the first 5 but the 6th one is the truth.
ReplyDeleteFind me a nickname for this week. sacaja-weezy was really good.

Nice one Bluefoot. A pregame thread AND a TWM all rolled into one topic!
ReplyDeletePosted by alba
Is that a picture of Kevin Federline?
ReplyDeleteHonestly, up to this point, I had no idea which Carolina the Panthros were from. And I'd love to talk smack about Charlotte, but it goes against policy: I can only belittle places that I've actually been to. (Example: St Louis blows.) And I'm not going to talk too much smack about the players, because Steve Smith's engine runs on disrespect.
Jeez, five more days of this?

i used to live EXACTLY on the Mason Dixon line...weird
ReplyDeletewould that be Brenda Mason and Cheryl Dixon? :-)

Speaking of nicknames, they're talking about one for our defense over at the PI site.
ReplyDeleteHere's my suggestion:
Trojan Horses
How about The Trojan Horses
* it's a nod to Lofa's alma mater
* most opponents treat our defense like a harmless gift, until it's too late
* it's a testimate to our latex-like "bend but don't break" style
* and when you break out these guys, it means that someone's getting f@cked!
(but would this now mean the Fisher and Wistrom are "resevoir ends?")
Your bravado would carry a little more weight if you had the cajones to sign your name to your posts. Or was it too confusing to figure out what should go in the Name field above?

Thanks for that insight Anonymous, if that is your real name!!! Well written, topical, not some mindless drivel that some folks would expect out of a Carolina fan. You are certainly making me proud... at least say "Steve Smith is going to torch you, and here is why ." I mean, that is something...
ReplyDeleteWKJY would be an NYC radio station, therefore few here could tune in. But thanks for that genius.

Y'all talk pretty big for some cobags from the northwest. Last time there was a good Football game in Seattle was when Wake Forest won the bowl game against Oregon.
ReplyDeleteHow're y'all's chicken coops coming along?
Posted by Yosef
Looks like Yosepf is the only educated one on this site, and he's form Charlotte! Seahawks suck as much as your weather.
ReplyDeleteOh my god, these "catwomen" are so incredibly stupid I find myself missing the Ram trolls!
ReplyDeletePosted by alba
"Thought I would check out the the enemies take, and wasn't surprised to find the usual redneck jokes, with a few Charlotte ones thrown in for good measure. Honestly, I expected more. "
ReplyDeleteBWAHAHAHHAAHA. Sorry, I agree with him.
That said, Mr. Webb, the Panther contingent hasn't been particularly well spoken either. Perhaps both fan-groups a little fired up after last week? If you have any game observations, trust me, this board appreciates them, and appreciates good ol' fashioned homerism as well.
Posted by JoSCh
Hate to say it but there is simply no comeback for what Webb said. He's speaking fairly truthfully.
ReplyDeleteI have been hollering at people over at the P-I blog for doing just exactly what Webb accused Seattle fans of doing.
I honestly thought that Seahawks fans were a little smarter than that, I really did.
Now you guys allk know that I like trash talking as much as the next guy, and I am certainly no P.C. cookie cop; but when the Seahawks fans say things that are reminiscent of the thing that Rams trolls said on Seahawks sites...well I am sorely disapointed.
I personally would love to debate with any Carolina fan on the strengths and weaknesses of our two teams.
In fact, just to try to get the ball rolling, all week so far I am hearing, "how is Seattle going to stop Steve Smith", a fair enough question, but my question is how can the Panthers possibly hope to win when games are always decided by who wins the war in the trenches, and the Seahawks have by far the best OLine in football?
Steve Smith is one guy, albeit a dangerous one, but he has had plenty of weeks this season of under 60 yards and no T.D.s Whereas the Seahawks OLine has yet to have a bad game, and has set up the both the run game and the pass game so well that the Seahawks have the NFL's #1 offense; what are the Panthers going to do about that? They're going to lose is what they're going to do!
And that wasn't meant to rip this thread which I thought was funny, so that wasn't against you Bluefoot, this thread is clever, so I was not meaning that.
ReplyDelete(I had to say that after rereading my last post, because I realized that it sounded like I was coming down on this thread I wasn't)
What I was coming down on is Seattle Seahawks fans who resort to name calling and general "I screwed your mama/sister/daughter/ type of humor.
I always thought that Hawks fans were generally smarter than that, (of course I really should have known better having visited the Times blog site), I really didn't expect to see so much of the stupid type of trash talking on the P-I site, boy was I wrong.
Again I LOVE to trash talk, but I prefer the kind where you use FACTS to back up your ARGUMENTS not just sophomoric humor (though I am NOT ooposed to a sprinkling of that either). I just like to point out that top to bottom the Seahawks are a better team than the Panthers and that barring a major screwup will be representing the NFC in the SuperBowl, I DON'T think it's necessary to point out to Carolina fans that I slept with their mamas, sisters and daughters (even though I did).
Aww, BWebb came in and made me look bad. I was just tryin' to have some fun and harmlessly troll a little bit. I figured with the way y'all are using homophobic jokes with everything that you would be fine with this instead of enjoying a truly open and honest debate. Of course, there's no real debate to be had by the homers for both theams that are reading here. I say the Panthers win, maybe give some good reasons, you'll come back say the Seahawks win, with some good reasons why, and we'll never convince each other. Anyway, whatevr.

I certainly expected to log on today and find nothing but bad things said as a rebuttal to my post. But, I am pleasantly surprised to find otherwise. Apparently, there are some decent folk up in the great Northwest.
ReplyDeleteI'll do my part and talk some football. Yes, Seattle's O-Line is top notch; they have an outstanding Offense in general. It will be definetly be hard to stop them. But if any squad can, it's the Panthers. They have the 3rd ranked Defense in the NFL. Part of that reason is two outstanding corners in Lucas (who you guys know all about) and Chris Gamble, who doesn't get much press, but has the goods. Also, Dan Morgan leads a solid linebacking corp, and the front four is among the leagues best. Because the Hawks WR corp is weak (sorry but it is) the panthers will probably go man to man outside, and put at least 7 in the box. That will negate the run and put constant pressure on Hasselback. Obviously you have the MVP in the backfield, so that does change things. But remember, the Giants had a similar high octane offense led by an outstanding runner, and they got smoked.
The more pressing question is how the Seahawks are going to stop the Panthers Offense. They've been on fire lately. Steve Smith can not be stopped. Teams have been keying on him all year, but he still gets it done. Caoch Fox knows how to use him; I guarantee he will get his looks on Sunday. Don't forget Jake Delhomme, who is an all-pro just like Hasselback. Granted he's one of these guys who can deliver an all-world pass one minute, and a complete dud the next. But he delivers in the playoffs, as evidenced by the fact that he has one of the highest QB ratings in playoff history. Finally we have one Nick Goings, who by the way, certianly does not suck. He has more 100 yard games in the past calender year than S. Davis and D. Foster combined. Certainly he's not a gamebreaker, but he's a pro and is goings to get the job done. In my opinion, Caronlina's offense could be too much for a D ranked 17th, and who gave up nearly 320 yards a game.
I also give the Panthers the edge in Special teams (better punter, kicker and that guy Smith again returning punts), and coaching. I'll give you guys the obvious home field edge, but if the Panthers win, they will be the first team to win 5 consecutive road playoff games, so being the visitor doesn't really effect them. Finally, the panthers played in a stronger divison, and played in more meaningful games down the stetch. But the bottom line for me is that Defense wins championships. I'll give Seattle the edge on Offense, but again, Defense is what it's all about, and in that regard, there is no comparison.
No doubt, some Seahawks fans will offer a rebuttal to all the above, and a lot of it will probably make sense. Seattle's a great team, and it will take a solid effort by the cats to win. If they do come up short, I'll tip my cap, and probably root for SEA in the Super Bowl. Hopefully, that's not going to happen, and I don't think it will. Reckon we'll find out on Sunday.

Not bad points but you lost me on two things. The real question is NOT how we stop Smith but how the Panthers stop all of our weapons with our OLine.
ReplyDeleteAlso you lost me at better kicker. Josh Brown has been AWESOME for the last two years for us, the guy gets it done week after week from 50 and longer.
Smith is just one weapon, and he's a WR so you guys have to invent ways to get the ball into his hands.
The Seahawks also have a terrific (two actually) reciver DJack just last game was outstanding with 9 catches for 143 yards and a T.D. Jurivicius has caught only two fewer touchdowns this season than your unstoppable Smith. And I haven't even gotten to Alexander, who scored 28.
The Panthers have one terrific weapon, the entire Seahawks offense is a weapon, with the leagues best OLine, RB, hottest QB, and several stud recievers.
No way do you guys stop all of that, no way!
The best you can hope for from Smith is 100+ yards and maybe two scores, sorry but that just won't be enough! Where else will you guys get your points?
Britt -
ReplyDeleteWell thought out and presented, except for ONE comment that I have to take issue with:
Because the Hawks WR corp is weak (sorry but it is)
Weak? Excuse me?
Bobby Engram, Darrell Jackson, Joe Jurevicus and Jerramy Stevens have combined for 205 catches and over 2,500 receiving yards, averaging over 12 yards per catch and totalling 23 touchdowns, or 138 points between them.
JJ and Stevens are having the BEST year of their careers and Bobby and DJax are both well rested and healed up coming off mid season injuries.
Doesn't sound too weak to me.

Good point Monkey. I didn't know enough about the Panther kicker to refute that one, but there's no mistaking that Josh Brown is MONEY, especially at Qwest.
ReplyDeleteJust ask visitors Jay Feeley and Jose Cortez how fun it is trying to make long field goals in big games at Qwest, then talk to me about who has the kicking advantage.
Posted by alba
The Carolina Sucks site is actually devoted to the North Carolina Tar Heels, who, as evidenced on April 4, demonstrably do not suck.
ReplyDeleteNeither do the Panthers for that matter, though I respect the 'Hawks more than some of your fans respect us. A less-than-flashy group that plays together and with guts, like the Panthers. Alexander and Hasselbeck are upstanding men, and the way the team handled the situation with the DB who got into trouble was commendable. (Also liked the move to kick N.C. State alum and boozer Koren Robinson to the curb.)
I predict a good close game that comes down to a John Kasay field goal in the rain. He'll drill it, Panthers 27, Seahawks 24

"Because the Hawks WR corp is weak (sorry but it is) " Well, the team doesn't require any one of them, but as a corps, they are probably the best. If anything Carolina has a weak WR corps, although I believe they have the best single WR in the league this year. Stunningly bad statement, particularly in light of the "apology". Hasselbeck threw for more yards then Delhomme in 6 less quarters while resting for playoffs or during blowouts!
ReplyDeleteRe Goings, "He has more 100 yard games in the past calender year than S. Davis and D. Foster combined." Um, not sure what the point is. He's better than them so coach Fox was saving him? I've seen him play, he'd be a good Parcells back, but he's no game buster. I don't see how losing both of your starting running backs can be viewed as a positive, considering you lost them both last year and they got their jobs back and Goings went back down the depth chart.
"Caronlina's offense could be too much for a D ranked 17th, and who gave up nearly 320 yards a game." My default answer for that is total D vs. scoring D. Seattle is the second best at TDs allowed, and second worst at FG's allowed. Admittedly this game very well could come down to a FG, but Quest is a tricky field for away teams kickers.
"Defense is what it's all about, and in that regard, there is no comparison." The above stat says different.
Should be a great game, I'm really looking forward to it. I'm hoping for a shootout.

When I said "Hasselbeck threw for more yards then Delhomme in 6 less quarters while resting for playoffs or during blowots! " I meant he threw for more yards during the season and he had 6 quarters off. Not that he threw for more while sitting on the bench than Jake did all year... I like Jake Delhomme.

ReplyDeleteAgain, I defer to the distinguished kickers, Jose' Cortez and Jay Feeley and beg to differ.

Look, we know all about John Kasay, he was once a Seahawk remember? He's a decent kicker, not bad at all, but Josh Brown is every bit as good if not better, he is a better deep kicker, and he CERTAINLY as the edge kicking at Qwest! SO that argument won't fly.
ReplyDeleteDissing our recieving corps is beyond silly, considering what you guys have after Smith. Look I (as I said before) love Proehl, I always have liked the guy, but he is NOT EVEN CLOSE to being a great NFL reciever, he wouldn't even make the cut on this team.
Just because the Hawks spread the ball around to a bunch of different guys, rather than throwing only to one guy all game long, doesn't mean the Panthers have a better recieving corps, in fact that just points out the opposite. Your very points invalidate your argument.
The Seahawks recieving corps is deeper and better by far top to bottom, after Steve Smith not one of your recievers could crack our starting lineup, not one.
The Panthers are a one trick pony, They have Smith and nothing else on offense. The Seahawks are the leagues mmost balanced offense, and nothing you can say will make that different. That makes the Hawks the better, more dangerous and deeper team.
The game plan is simple, don't let Smith get behind you deep and we win, because your running game is pathetic, and without Smith, you've got nothing to your passing game.
Your defense is good but it's not at all better than the one we faced last week against the Skins.
In fact I would say it is noticeably worse, especially against the run, you remember what Julius Jones did to you guys in a game where you were trying to take away the run? 195 yards later, you guys lost. Your defense can be run on, which it has shown all season long, ours cannot, which it has shown all season long.
All the Panthers are is the Redskins part two, the Panthers are nearly identicle to the Skins, except they don't have a running back.
I see this game being very similar to the last one, with slightly more scoring, Seahawks 28 Panthers 19
The Seahawks are the leagues mmost balanced offense, and nothing you can say will make that different.
ReplyDelete"You can't hurt me. The Seahawks and I are joined by the bonds of love. And you cannot track that, not with a thousand bloodhounds, and you cannot break it, not with a thousand swords, and you cannot rush it, not with a thousand Julius Pepperses listed as questionable."

ReplyDeleteGentleman, I stated the reasons why I thought the Panthers would win, and I stand by every written word. Obviously, most don't agree with me, and I respect that. Doing this point, counter-point thing is useless, because it's not going to change anyone's mind. We'll just have to agree to disagree. One thing is certain, if the actual Seahawks players disrespect the Panthers as much as many of you do, it's going to get real ugly. But I highly doubt that's the case, because they know better. I look forward to an outstanding game on Sunday that could go either way. The way I see it, a good defense always beats a good offense - Panthers 24 Seahawks 20. Take it easy fellas...

ReplyDeleteI didn't know anyone had that as a goal.
It's just entertainment. When you get down to it, 99% of football is useless - it's a game. This blog, as well as all football sites, follow suit.
Having said that, I have enjoyed the banter, the arguing, the smack, regardless if it was thoughtless drivel or smart analysis. May the best team win, and then enjoy placing the NFC crown on the Emerald City.

ReplyDeleteWell said Bluefoot. It's been a lot of fun reading comments from both sides all week, even though some posts were comparable to the kind of hallway smack I deal with each day as a middle school teacher!
Regardless, Seattle and Charlotte are both thriving cities (beyond the football field) with quality teams, coaches, and fans relishing in playoff success. It just feels good, doesn't it?
I'm enjoying my coffee tremendously this morning ("On top of that, Panther fans are more likely to prefer slurping specialty coffee drinks...") in strangely Seattle-like weather here in the Queen City. Ironically, it was also windier in Charlotte last weekend than in Chicago. Mother Nature's condolences for those of us that can't be there?
Have a blast this weekend, y'all.

Just wanted to send my congratulations to the Seahawks, and all thier fans. There is no doubt who was the better team on Sunday. I do wish the Panthers would have played better, but the Seahawks certainly had something to do with that. Again, congratulations, and good luck in the Super Bowl. I hope you guys beat the hell out of the Steelers.
