Bobby Engram

What are your feelings on Engram, his infamous drop in the play off game.I don't remeber your
guys reaction from this,My first reaction was tar and feathers. Can we trust him to make that play or any other play again?I really can't,if he cannot bring in that big play what makes you think that he can do it in a bigger game?I am not saying we should dump him but maybe Hass
will not throw to him next time he needs a big play, and force something. But I don't think this was addressed enough in the PI blog.

  1. Engram gets a free pass. He's one of, if not the most reliable thrid down receiver in the game. While that drop hurt, we wouldn't even be in the position we were in if it weren't for him. Should he have made the catch? Of course. But the thing that gets overlooked is every receiver drops passes. On every team. Our team more than most, but every team does it. Engram is fine, and will continue to do the wonderful job he has done for us.

  2. I agree. Engram is my favorite receiver of the bunch. When he was injured earlies this past season, I think Hass missed him, and it contributed to his early-midseason funk.

He's definitely a keeper. Koren is a different story, however. I'm not even sure we could get much in a trade.

  3. I agree 100% on Engram, he's definitly our clutch guy. And an excellent observation blue, on Matt missing his go to guy. And this is definitly the last chance for the rest. With Urban lookin' like he did, someone's gonna be losing a job next season. Or at least the season after. I'd be willing to bet that he pushes for a starting spot in camp this year.

And I'm really hoping for help and a fix for K-Rob's play. Only because it reflects on Mike for stickin' by him. But he needs to step up because at this point we couldn't get a equipment guy for him.

  4. Agreed, Vinny.

Engram's hands has given us a lot of key first downs. Koren's hands are where scoring drives go to die.

But the only person that can really fix Koren is Koren. He's had a lot of help, and it's a great character point of Holmgren to be patient. But I doubt Holmie's going to let it cost him any games.

It's a tough call, and it really needs to be made by people in the know.

  5. Yeah and as we all know I'm a Holmy guy and therefore I'd like to see him get a little tough with some of these guys. Robinson and Jackson for sure, but also Jones now that he's signed. He needs to be forced to come to camp and work out. Helping the team at the same time by allowing everyone to practice as a unit. (one of our biggest problems in pass protection in my opinion)

  6. FYI, Jones IS going to camp, he mentioned it in one of the interviews. He thought he was going to need someone to show him around.

Regarding pass protection- didn't you know that Walter didn't surrender a sack in all 16 regular season games last year? I'd hardly blame the protection woes on him not going to camp. Talk about a stretch.

  7. Like Bluefoot said, Jones has promised that he will be at camp this year. But I agree with Vinny that his absense the past few years has hurt our pass protection. It's not what Jones has done during the season, it's what some of the other guys have done. With him missing they haven't been able to practice as a group, and the cohesiveness of the unit is extremely important in blocking schemes. Also people like Porkchop Womack have had to fill in at his spot during camp, instead of practicing the actual positions they will be playing during the season. His presence in camp should help out the rest of the line, and also help him move from one of the best tackles to the undisputed best in the NFL.

  8. Check, if pass protection is so simple, how is it that Matt was pressured from BOTH sides of the line. On too many occasions Jones allowed blitzers to get around him to get in Matt's face or to flush him out of the pocket. His car pushing routine may be great for opening holes for HBs but it doesn't help his footwork and agility.

And by the way, thanks for the diss guys, I hate to toot my own horn(ok maybe not), but cielo was quoting me on his observation.

  9. I don't know whether you know this or not check , but Womack will probably be the starter at Right Tackle of right Guard this season. And might have been last season if he could've been practicing those positions in camp. And I don't care what you say, all I know is what I see in watching the tapes, and I see Matt getting too much pressure all the way across the Line. You don't see him with the time in the pocket that Manning, McNabb, Brady do. And I don't think this is kind of an exageration, just an observation from watching Matt hurried play after play.

  10. I defenitly agree with you on the right side of the line, it needs a serious overhaul. And it will be interesting to see how much Pork Chop improves being able to work out through camp in a position he'll be playing in. This will be the year he shines. I like him becuase of his versatility, he plays Guard and Tackle equally well.

  11. I agree on Pork Chop. His natural position is guard. Some stability in that position woul dhelp him a lot.

I'm not sure about Terry, though. He was real good before his shoulder injury, and he ended up playing most of his season with basically one arm against some pretty good DE's before he went on IR. Before that he was a very athletic 295 lbs. that Holmgren liked to have, because it allowed him to call some plays that he wouldn't otherwise.

If he's back in full health, it'll be hard for anyone to take his roster spot. Hard for anyone, except for maybe.... Kyle Turley.

  12. I'll go with that, very well put Blue. I'd still like to get a top round O-line pick though. Someone we KNOW could challenge any of these guys for a starting job. Matt needs an O-line that can protect him, but we also need guys big enough to move the line of scrimmage (stopped on third and short tooo many damn times!).

Anyway, I'll agree 100% with what you said about Terry, he actually did very well for a one armed Tackle.

Kinda makes ya drool over an injury free season for the Hawks huh?
