I was just thinking about how much money Ken Lucas will demand in free agency,In the nfl
cornerbacks are at a premium. So the question is will we and should we sign Lucas back?
I think Chris Richard is a good talent,And can could fill the spot if vacated.The reason I ask is because of Bill Parcells statements about not signing or drafting a shut down corner because with the new rules leaning towards the offence.In my opinion I think if we didn't sign Lucas Back
we could sign a Kendrel Bell to bolster our linebacker corps,And use the money we can sign Okeafor,plus add depth at defensive end in the draft.I would like to hear your opinions on this.
I for one am a little torn on this one. One one hand Lucas was prbably our most effective secondary player throughout the season, and would certainly be missed if we don't resign him. On the other hand, we still have guys like Bobby Taylor who can step right in and be a good starter for us. Also, (as you mentioned) K.Bell could really help this team.
ReplyDeleteI am convinced either way on this issue, but I am leaning towards letting him go, mostly depending on how much money it would tkae to resign him. If he wants too much, bye bye, if not then keep him.
I have to say keep him. We have incredible potential in that secondary, in my opinion (maybe slightly biased) we have the best yhoung secondary out there. They are all great ball hawks, and with a good front 7, will soon be taking the Eagles place in the pro bowl. I think that we would do better to cut Taylor, save his money, sign Lucas, who I still don't think will command much money on the open market, and keep this young force together.
ReplyDeleteI could see that, and I think it becomes more plausible with a guy like Morris, I think that Bell is just too costly for us right now. But, depending on what Lucas asks for, I still think we could cut Taylor, use that money to sign Lucas, and still be able to use some FA money to get Morris.
ReplyDeletePersonally I think our pass rush is fine if we can keep Wistrom, Brown, Simmons and Okeafor on the field at the same time (not to mention Tubbs and Rocky), we looked pretty good in the games where we had them playing. Adn to let Lucas go would take away our best Corner.
ReplyDeleteAnd if they let S.A. and Jones go we would have plenty of money to get your' MLB and sign Lucas.
As I've said before, a lot of it's going to depend on whether Lucas wants to stay.
Paulie, good take on Taylor too, if Richard pans out Taylor's kind of an extra DB we don't need.
ReplyDeleteMunch, I'm not sure if Lucas is better than Tru, I just think with the extra experience, he's our best at this point, but Tru is still young, and he did gety burned a lot more than Ken did.
ReplyDeleteBut I'd hate to lose any of our Corners at this point, because i agree with the statement that we have perhaps(potentially) the best secondary in football. Especially if we can generate a pass rush to force the QBs to throw early(more picks).
