Breaking News: Hass Notified of Tag Deadline

According to the Trib (the only media site on top of the Seahawks' FO activities), Hasselbeck has been notified that the Seahawks intend to 'franchise tag' him before tomorrow at 1pm if he's not inked to a long term deal.

AAAAAaaaaAAAaaargh!

Franchising him is not good for Hass OR the Seahawks. He would get the benefits of signing bonus + long term stability if he signed. And if he ends up with the tag, it will wipe out about a third of our cap space. We've still got too many people to sign that kind of crap.

Dammit, sign a contract, Matt! DO you want this team to improve or not?

  1. Has anyone ever heard the theory about why NASA should never have landed on the moon? By landing on the moon, they opened themselves up to criticism on everything they failed to do, for instance "They could land on the moon, but they can't find a fuel source that costs less than $2 a gallon?"

That's how I'm starting to feel about the FO signing Jones. If they got that deal done, there should be ZERO problems getting Hass to sign. The clock is ticking...

  2. I agree exactly with Paulie...there is absolutely no excuse not to sign Hasselbeck after locking up Walter.

from what Rotoworld said, Seattle may be lookin for a receiver to help Hass---they are clearly trying to make a conveinience for Hass...with our cap, we would be in great position if we get him for a good 4mill a year as opposed to 8mill for one year...

why delay the inevitable? Hass will be back in the same position next year if we franchise him...he talks about 'chemistry'...how will we have any if we can't sign half our offensive players back because of him getting an extra 4 mill...either way he will be a Seahawk this year, its jus a matter of him being on a lesser team (if wes franchised, taking a chunk of money away) or if he is on an improved team (injuries really screwed us up last year)

im really depressed about this...if the Mariners can wrap up some big named players, why can't the Seahawks?

    just don't sign him to a 7 year deal...I say 5...maybe 6

  3. Hey, ADP!!! Long time no see-um!

Both of you are right on about signing Hass. How an organization can let this happen to it's MOST KEY PLAYER in it's scheme just baffles me.

But I guess that's why Whitsitt is gone.

  4. AT least the whole 'Favre is retiring, Hasselbeck's going to Green Bay' thing can be put to rest.
