How Long for Chad?

We've had some pretty good linebackers over the years-- Fredd Young, Dave Wyman, Anthony Simmons-- But none of them on par with Chad Brown.

I know what you're thinking, and I'm not going to consider Brian Bosworth to that list.

As hard as this is to type, there has been a buzz in the blogs lately about letting Chad go. His salary will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $5 million, and his durablity has become questionable. Is this the beginning of the end?

  1. I certainly don't like the amount of money Brown is getting paid to only play part time, the only question I have is who is available to replace him really? I have seen the list of free agents, and other than Claiborn, who is also very injury prone and Kendrell Bell (see Clairobn) there's not alot out there. As "oh Brother Where Art Thou?" said "We're in a tight spot."

  2. I would like to see us keep Chad for at least one more year, and draft a LB like Shawne Merriman to serve as his understudy/timeshare LB for now. But $5 million still seems like a lot of dough.

Does anyone know where we can find out what kind of contracts our players are currently under? Because a big factor in all of this is how big their signing bonus is.

  4. I'm not saying that Brown's the best OLB out there, but there are reasons that he's ranked among the NFL's elite. (even with the injuries)

Chad is #16 at his possition.

I'm with the idea of signing him for another season and perhaps allow him a chance to retire a Hawk. At this point his major up side is his leadership on the field and experience at reading offenses.

But hey, whatever helps the Hawks I'm all for. But please, no more youth at the starting positions on D. It was inexperience that hurt us most on D last season.

  5. Actually that should say Chad WAS #16 going into last season.

  6. How about moving him to MLB?

  7. As far as that's concerned we need several guys on the team to re-evaluate their worth, Jones, Matt, Jackson,Wistrom etc.
