Antonio Cochran Released Along With Jason Willis...Porkchop Out 6 Weeks.

The letter Seattle Seahawks president Tim Ruskell sent to players in March left little room for interpretation.
Participation in the team’s offseason workout program was one of his expectations. Some players showed up. Veteran defensive end Antonio Cochran chose to stay away, and on Sunday the Seahawks released him.

Cochran’s termination after six seasons with the team stemmed from factors that went beyond workouts, of course. The 29-year-old veteran stood to earn $1.5 million this season, and the team had decided to build its defense around smaller, quicker ends.

Whatever the reasoning, Cochran apparently did not fit. He leaves the Seahawks with 151/2 sacks in 82 games, including 61/2 sacks last season.

wow guys...i actually believed Holmgren when he gave his reason for Cochran not playing...he said he wanted to see the younger guys...all credit goes to those few who assumed something DID happen...best of luck to Antonio and our Pass Rush

now what do we do? im definitely not comfortable with our pass rush now, Tubbs/Darby emergence or not.

also, with Porkchop out for 6 weeks (4 regular season games)...Locklear is taking his place

SIDE NOTE: The Eagles removed the franchise tag from Corey Simon, making him a free agent...the Seahawks will probably be interested, among a million other teams...BUT that is my thought...I would be shocked if they werent.

  1. No need to worry about our pass rush ADP, we just got Alain Kashama  from da Bears for a conditional/undisclosed pick in a future draft. His illustrious career includes one tackle in one game.

I have to question this move. Unless the FO already has the roster trimmed to 64 players, what is the point? How much time is this guy going to get to prove anything? Unless this guy was heavily scouted by our new department, and they really think he is that good, why trade a pick? The Ronald Flemmons deal didn't bother me, as they already knew they weren't going to keep Kris Richard, so there was nothing to lose, and you get a look at a problem position for us. But any pick is worth more than a player who has the longest of long shots to make the team. Can a conditional pick possibly mean 8th rounder? Cuz if this guy gets cut September 3rd, we just gave up a best a 7th round pick for nothing. Maybe its a pick in the 2025 draft?

Ok, I gotta get some kool-aid.

  2. well look on the bright side...Cochran's release frees up a chunk of cap...and from what im hearing (not confirmed yet)...we have around 5 mill to spend...

Corey Simon is a perfect fit all the way around, and Ruskell is said by everyone (Sando, Kahn, other paper reporters) to be looking for DLine players...

if we get Simon (which i actually think is a small if...i think we could get him if the FO wanted him)...that easily replaces Cochran

imagine Tubbs, Darby, Simon, Moore, Bernard...THAT is depth

Hannibal Navies was released as well...i dont want him or anything...but that shows that surprises are coming already...hes a decent player and the Packers NEED as many defensive players they can get...im baffled by it...

    anything can happen...

    hehe im excited!

  3. (kool-aid in hand)

This move serves two purposes. One is sending a message to the bubble guys, the other is to give Antonio more time to catch on with another team.

Picking up the Bears guy doesn't bother me too much. I'm sure it's a conditional 4th rounder or something like that, and there's not too much difference between a 4th rounder and an undrafted free agent.

Simon would be sweet, but I'm not sure about the "character" test.

Can't wait for Sept. 10th...that's when the Satellite guys show up!!!

  4. The Cochran move doesn't bother me as much as da Bears guy.

"there's not too much difference between a 4th rounder and an undrafted free agent "

I am not even going to comment on that.

I don't see us going after Simon, even though he has been bad-A. Although who knows, maybe Fat Andy gave his old boss a tip?

Waiting till Sept 10th for the satellite? Those bastids are pushing it close, good luck to you alba, and remember to slip em a fin, they'll hook you right up ;-)

  5. he's only going to be on the pratice squad. watch, you'll see. it's a feasible backup plan because they don't want to put hackeba on the (practice) squad. someone else would sign him. so they keep huckeba and put this guy on the squad, so that way they get away with only 4 ends on the roster with an extra on the practice squad.

i can't even imagine them going for simon.

  6. GOX, are you drunk? You're sure typing like you are. :D

And you know  why we cut Brown.....he can't stay healthy. And wait and see, he won't make the entire season in N.E. either. And what exactly does one have to do with the other(Brown and Cochran)? Sacks? Who cares about sacks, as long as we can get pressure, that's all that matters. Sacks is an over hyped stat, good pressue on a QB is just as good as a sack, forcing the QB to throw too early will usually force a pick.

And everyone needs to remember, the only reason Cochran started at all last season was because Wistron was injured, had he not been Cochran would have ended the season pickin' slivers outta his arse from riding the bench.
