Getting Ready for the Season...

NOTE: I am re-posting this by way of a reminder, and to give contributors an opportunity to revisit their award strategy. Our first game is coming quick! -Bluefoot

I have mentioned from time to time that there will be additional features to this site when the season begins, with more little 'duties' for contributors to the blog, and just a bunch of fun and cool stuff. There is one thing I want to get a jump on early, so you have time to think about it.

I'd like to introduce 'Contributor's Awards'. Not an award to contributors, but from them. At the contrubutor's sole discretion, following each game the contributor will post an 'award thread' describing who the award goes to and why.

For example, If Jerehme Urban had a particlarly good game, he could win "Monkey's Rising Star Award", "Bluefoot's Good Hands Award", or "Alba's Clutch Play Award". (These are all hypothetical examples). There would be an explanation, an award-like picture, and room for everyone to comment.

Contributors, you may now choose what your award will be. The subject of the award is completely up to you, as well as who it is given to. Just pick your title, and stick with it for the season. It will become a 12 Seahawks Street staple.

Remember, this is all about fun. Post your comments/questions/dibs below.

  1. Yet another terrific idea from the mind of Bluefoot!
I sort of like Monkey's banana peel award either for the player who slipped up, or the player who tripped up te competition the best. Either way.

  2. good idea...and its new too!

it may be a little tough for those who cant watch every Seahawk game due to location...

Introducing the ADP's FunkyMonkey Award! (if Monkey doesnt mind it...ive been using that word a lot lately...has nothing to do with monkeys, though...oo oo ah ah)...The Nobel Prize of the site, this award will be given to the player who improved the most over the previous game...

Dont be afraid to dance to the groovy sound of the crowd, and if you step up...you could be the next FunkyMonkey!

  3. For now, I reserve the rights to the "PauliePlaymaker" award, for the biggest impact play. (although, like Bill Parcells, I reserve the right to change my mind)

  4. Vinny's Vindication Award: For the player that proves he's better than projected or than he'd been playing.

    Damn!!!!

  6. have no idea...im just basing mine on each game...who improved the most from the last game (ie if D Jack get 2 reception for 6 yards...then improves the week after with 10 catches, 195 yards and 2 TDs)

  7. Can non-contributors make suggestions? Someone mentioned the Nobel Prize, and that got me thinking...

How about an award for the most intelligent play of the game? Whether it be a player who makes the right call, or the coach who calls the right play at the right time.

As a long time self-avowed science geek who lettered in Knowledge Bowl in high school rather than football, I'd love to see one award that puts brains over brawn.

  8. I think that's a great idea, and one that will be hotly contested. For instance, I would have nominated Coach Holmgren for having Matt run the sneak against Atlanta, while some believe he should have had Shaun run. Great idea Highwater!

  9. i have no good ideas. maybe it's because i used my real name as my blogging identity. a "brett's best bruise" award is all i can come up with.

and yes, watching every game will be a problem for me.

  10. I love the response and ideas!

    SO far:

    Monkey's Banana Peel
    ADP's FunkyMonkey
    PauliePlaymaker
    Vinny's Vindication
Blue Seven's Lucky Bastard of the Week
Brett's Best Bruise (lol, say that three times fast)

Post revisions to your awards in this thread.

My selection: The BlueFoot Destroyer Award. Whoever gets the most devastating tackle gets the BFD for the week.

Unless, of course brett's best bruise award is actually what that is all about. Let me know. I'm not sure if you are going to the locker room to check their bodies for the best bruise, or what. Maybe playing through injury? Tell me what you intend.

Every one else: Got pics for your awards yet?

  11. blue - thats the exact one i wanted to do, but since i cant get all the games...i had to adapt

  12. For instance, it's actually smart to not use capital letters. More efficient use of keystrokes... saves energy for self-abuse.

  13. my thought was kind of a "best hit" kind of award. normally, this would be a defensive award, unless someone pulls a largent and completely plasters a donko safety. (dang! the memory still makes me giggle!)

i played corner in high school, but i was also mister fill-in for just about every position on the field, offense or defense. once our defensive end ("chongo") had an ankle injury and they sent me in.

problem was, the biggest and best tackle in our league was on the other side of the line. almost double my weight at the time! let's just say i tried to use my quickness and fake him out the first two snaps. after a pass deflection and a hurry, he was PISSED!

he was all ready on his toes ready to kill me if i tried another double move. nothing left to do but lower the shoulder and plow him. nobody was more surprised than him, and he had to watch me sack his qb from his back.

believe it or not, they actually called me for unnecessary roughness and took away the sack! but i never felt so manly in my life. at this point, the coach put chongo back in and allowed me to live for another game.

so anyway, i wanted to convey that i have a special place in my heart for a well-timed clobber. hope that helps.

  15. Max Hawks High Flyin' Award, for the player that goes way up over the top to grab the rock...

Or Hawks Talon Snatch Award. For the player that makes the most incredible snag that shouldn't have been caught.

Wait, I forgot, these are the Hawks recievers were talkin about...Never mind...;' ]

  16. brett,

You mentioned it first - brett's best bruise will be about the best hit. Bluefoot's Destruction Award will hereby be for the most devastating BLOCK. Mack Strong should get a few of these.

FYI to all of you, I really look forward to seeing this in action!

  17. Blue, would we be setting up a separate section of the blog for this? I foresee something like the "adopt-a-hawk" section, with weekly archives.

  18. I'm hesitant to start a new sub-blog for this, because it adds quite a bit of maintenence. If the initial award posts are simple, it shouldn't clutter too much.

We'll see how it goes. If it turns the blog into a salad, I'll delegate.

This should be fun. How long 'til the season starts again?

  19. maybe (with some coordination) we could all write up our awards and have one person post it as one big "AWARDS" post within a certain time after each game. if we keep it to one paragraph each and get it in within 24 hours after the game, i think that would make for some good content.

  20. I like it. It's a little hard for me to be on line on Sundays though.

    96 days buddy....

If it makes you feel a little better its 64 days until preseason starts.

  22. Paulie: There is no reason you couldn't post your award on Monday, and same goes for everyone else, for that matter.

And everyone: don't forget to get a pic for your award. Mine is at the top of the thread, as an example of how it could be used.

  23. well looking at BF's examples in the main post...

we know who gets the 'Good Hands Award'...the question is, will Mr. Owens be here to except it?

  24. I can't see every game, as I go to school at Southern Illinois (in Rams territory...don't worry, I've got my shots)

Any ideas for an award that a gamecast watcher can give out?

In addition, sorry I haven't posted anything yet.
