Post Game Observations: Sehawks Beat New Orleans 34-15

What impressed me? Hasslebeck. The offensive line. The front four on defense performed well in obvious pass situations.

Darby is a stud. He's like trying to block a manhole cover.

And SENECA. Dude is a playmaker, period.

Areas of concern: The starting defensive front seven got pushed around a bit against the run. They got blocked well at the point of attack.

Other that a couple of dropped passes by Urban and Stevens, I was pretty impressed by the offense.

  1. OK, I'll reiterate my concerns with Taco Wallace going backwards on kick returns, and the special teams overall. Gave up a few big returns and Josh Brown can't seem to kick the ball into the end zone.

Our punters on the other hand seem to have had a terrific game, illegal batting notwithstanding.

And lastly, how about that JP Darche hitting FGs and XPs!

  2. unsung heros:

Hill, Babineaux, Niko, MBoul, Howell, White, Terrill, Leverette, Weeks, and SENECA

Seneca...man, we need a nickname for him NOW

  3. On the positive side, our WRs seemed to have a good game overall, and while I didn't hear the commentary, I'm sure there was no reason to miss K-(hic!)-Rob.

Good to see JJ and Pathon contributing, and Urban being in the miss, although with a few critical drops.

Kerry Carter was impressive too with the first team.

Liked seeing a whole bunch of different names on D involved in tackles, which means we've got a good rotation at D-line and LB, and this without guys like Sharper and Lofa in the mix.

The best part was how the first team D caused a few early turnovers and the first team O turned them into points.

That's how we need to play the season. Score Early. Score Often. Never look back! Never let up!

  4. Nickname for Seneca: AVIS

Cuz when you're #2, you try harder!

  5. Seneca now takes Hass's old "Mister August" moniker, as far as I'm concerned.

I think the point that everyone is missing her (regarding the front 7 D-line), is the info that came from the article in the PI:

"The Saints' No. 1 offense did not produce a first down when the defensive tackle tandem on free-agent pickup Chuck Darby and Marcus Tubbs, last year's first-round draft choice, was on the field."

  6. I am the worlds most miserable monkey. I went to my favortie bar to see the gae yesterday but the place was full of Vikings dorks who all had the same bloody game on and were using every TV in the place. I tried being poilte and asking if someone would share so I could watch the game, that didn't work. I tried complaining to the owner, that didn't work. I eventually got pissed off, started getting vociferous and nearly got thrown out of the place. I left in a big huff. Man I am pissed, I can't believe I couldn't see the dang gaem!!! How the heck am I supposed to give out the banana peel award when I couldn't see the bloody game? AAARRRGGGghhhh!!!! OK deep breaths, I'm calm now...well sort of.

  7. I have been saying all along that Seneca is as of this moment MUCH better than any veteran QB on the market, and that getting a vet is a waste of money, Seneca is proving me right. I actually believe that in Seneca, we have one of the best backups in the NFL. I am not being homerish when I say that. I have seen enough of Seneca now to say with confidence that he is going to be a very good backup for us this season, and that soon he will be needing a starting job somewhere.

  8. Yep, I must bow to the Monkey Sense...I admit I was hesitant in depending on Seneca as our #2 QB, but I'll just shut the F**k up now....you were right guys, Seneca's apparently the real deal.

I'm soooooo glad to be wrong on that one......Nice Game Hawks, nice game!!!!!!

  11. I got a little carried away with Google and the Seneca nicknames in the Flooble, so I thought I'd post them here for posterity:

The heck with Mr. August, he's Always in Season !

Merlot since when he plays, he leaves a "trail" of "whiners".

Casino since he's our ace in the hole!

    Zoolander

The Holel Seneca-Fornia You check him out but you can never leave!

  12. lol good catch alba...a 'gae' bar

as for the nicknames...most of them are pretty good...i just want one that will stick well for the whole fanbase

  13. I know, I was just bored today so I went fishing for laughs. Maybe someone should email Sando and see if he already has a nickname among the team.

(of course, I am a little impartial to AVIS)

  15. Avis is better then my first thought: Mongoose

nice ring huh? Seneca "Mongoose" Wallace lol

this is my first saturday in a long time where i didnt go somewhere (friends in New Mexico right now)...so i was trying to come up with a nickname for Seneca, and I played my guitar on the back of my neck (which i did GREAT at...wasnt half as hard as i thought it would be...i picked it up quick)

Nirvana's "Come As You Are" sounded perfect

    ReplyDelete
  16. i even looked at past wrestlers trying to find a decent nickname...but 'Kamala' and 'Papa Shango' just didn't work...'Repo Man' wasnt too bad, but none were as bad as 'Bastian Booger'

    ReplyDelete
  17. I've heard about guys with hairy backs, but I never met one who could play guitar on the back of their neck before??!!

  18. Getting ready to watch the game on NFL Network, I hope they win... Blue, you said "manhole". And Gae bars abound everywhere now, my buddy has a shirt from a local Charleston one that says "Mom, Dad, I'm Gaelic" on the back. Good times.

  19. im watching the game now myself...

this Saints team looks dangerous...i hope we can pull off a win

alba - i was watching an old concert tape of Guns N Roses...Slash did it, and I tried (boredom...im not used to being home on Saturdays)...it was so freakin easy, i was a little shocked at the easiness

  20. On NFL net the first half was announced by the Aints folk, and the second half by ours. Man, everybody loves that Avis, he looked real good. Urban didn't. I think Pathon gets his spot. Kaz was always around the ball, I really wish he was a little better. He is probably the best backup LB we have, even though I really think he'll be cut based on his relative lack of talent/upside. Babineaux catching the beerman was fricking impressive. Taco will not make the team, not with those really bad punt returns. Wistrom got completely taken on a couple of running plays, but I think that is just getting the rust knocked off and into the flow. I thought we did ok, haven't read/heard from the coaches, but I bet Holmy was pissed. Starting O looked good, Shawn even caught a couple of passes!

  21. ADP - got a guitar for like my 35th birthday. Took lessons for a year. Can't play a lick in FRONT of me, so basically, I'm jealous!

  22. Josh - careful with the best backup LB thing...Tracy White is by far my favorite LB, and I wil defend him to the death! lol...but seriously, what about Tatupu or Niko? Not to mention Tracy White is dangerous in the game and on Special Teams (led the game in tackles). I guess the one thing against White is that he didnt play last year due to injury...

Alba - I dont blame you...I have trouble playing with a pick...im horrible using one...so i just use my fingers...and it comes in handy with the ladies ;)

    ReplyDelete
  23. 2 more things with the guitar:

    1. I need to learn with the pick soon because I wanna get an electric guitar...right now im using a freakin acoustic (imagine that big thing stuck on the back of your neck lol...after a couple minutes, my right shoulder goes numb though...weird)

    2. Im self taught...noone around me plays at all...(except my friend's father...they're in her band called Mind Control...up and coming too)

    ReplyDelete
  24. "I guess the one thing against White is that he didnt play last year due to injury..."

Um, White did play last year, quite a bit actually. Are you sure you're not thinking about D.D. Lewis?

    ReplyDelete
  25. BTW, I've been thinking about who might be the startign LB's at the beginning of the season. My fearless predicition is Sharper (strong side), Tatupu (middle), and White (weak side).

I could see Hill with some playing time on the weak side, too, but that would mean two rookies would be starting @ LB.

That would be less than ideal.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I know DD was gone...

but i could of sworn that White was injured for a chunk of the season...im gonna look it up...

    ReplyDelete
  27. aha! i was right!...they placed him on injury reserve towards the end of the season...he only got to play in 10 games...

im pretty sure i made it clear that i said he didnt play 'much', inferring that he did play, just not the whole season...if not then im an idiot...

but yeh...heres the blip from rotoworld:

    Nov. 16, 2004 - 12:43 pm et

Seahawks linebacker Tracy White will miss three-to-four weeks with a pulled hamstring.
Not a major loss for Seattle. White was mostly valuable on special teams.

    Jan. 5, 2005 - 10:31 am et

Seahawks placed linebacker Tracy White on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, ending his season.
White never got a chance for consistent playing time this season. Few of the Seahawks linebackers have.

    ReplyDelete
  28. that last sentence is hypocritical...everyone says we had major injuries...and then turn around and say we aren't a very good team...um...the reason is under their noses...

but yeah...i thought i was crazy for a minute there...i remember Niko, Kaz, and someone else (Bates? Huff?) started for the end of the season...sadly, our WRs were in the same boat, as was our DLine...

    what could of been...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Bluef, I was talking about Kaz being smart and around the ball. He is probably our least talented LB physically. Saying he was the best was probably wrong... Maybe if he lost some weight?? I like all our LBs this year. Sharper, Tatupu, White? What about DD?

Coach was pretty relaxed from what I have read, wonder how the film session went Sunday night.

  30. Just a thought on Kaz, I think he'll benefit from his abilities on STs and will be kept for the same reasons as Bannister.

    Any thoughts?

And Maybe Urban signed to the Practice Squad?

  31. it'll be interesting to see what they do with Bannister and how soon he can come back. (anyone else impressed with this Gilbran Hamden character playing QB after cracking a collarbone in NFL Europe??!!)

I'd like to see Kaz stick for those very same reasons, but it's going to be a numbers game, especially knowing there's a pending RB situation coming in 2006.

No way Urban goes back to the practice squad after starting at the end of last season. It's hard to go back to hamburger once you've tasted prime rib. If he doesn't make the team, I'll bet he'll look for a release and a chance to start/play for someone else.

  32. Who cares about Kaz or Huff or anyone else for that matter. NE had big time injuries. So did Buffalo (who missed the playoffs despite destroying the Pigeons). When you have the 26th ranked defence you are not going anywhere.

  33. alba, isn't there a 2 year limit on practice squad eligibility? I don't think he could go back to the practice squad. Which saddens me, because whether he makes this team or another, he will play in the NFL. I just hope it's for our team.

  34. no, NE had the most injuries...but they didnt lose Harrison, Brady, McGinest, and Colvin at the same time...our injuries were many, and major players...

our defense was #1 for a chunk of the season until we lost Wistrom, DJack, Engram, Okeafor played with injuries, we even lost Hass a bit...im sick of going over this

right now, i truly believe that if this team stays relatively healthy, they are the best in the NFC...Philly is ridiculously overrated (thanks to creampuff schedules and media coverage)...Atlanta probably cant repeat itself, Carolina is overrated offensively, Minnesota is overrated, the Rams suck, as do the Retardinals...Green Bay has no defense (notice the correct way of spelling it)

    who else is there? noone...

thats not to say some AFC teams arent better...I think the Pats, Jets, and Colts are definitely better teams...though I think the Steelers are overrated

    im done with this subject

  35. Urban cannot be on the PC, nor can Taco or Willis, dunno about Hackett. They have used up their eligibility.
