Payback Time

To start off this post, I would like to put in a quote from our amazing fullback, Mack Strong:

"Now we have a job to do and we’ve got to get it done. This will definitely be an incentive to play better Sunday against Dallas.
We need to do it for Ken."

This upcoming game is symbolic for the 2005 Seahawks for many reasons. First obviously, this game could be seen as retribution for all the b.s. our team had to go through last year. The Cowboy game last year was in a sense the manifestation of every problem we had last year in a single game. Bad officiating, check, playing with no heart in the second half, check, letting other teams come back when they should be done, check.

But, enough about the past, because frankly, I am sick of hearing it brought up against us. We all know that this team is drastically different from any of the previous Holmgren teams. This is a team that simply wont put up with any of the hoops that this league and the press seem to make us want to jump through. We are a team that simply says, any game, anywhere, we will play to beat you. Yeah our away record could use some work, but what game haven't we been in? What game haven't at some point along the way, have we not looked like one of the top teams in the league? In alot of ways, this reminds me of some of the few great Seahawks teams of the past. People said we were done, we had missed our "window". Maybe our window closed, but the door just opened.

Finally this game is about heart. We lost one of the most emotional leaders of our defense. Does this mean we give up and say, it wasn't our fault? Absolutely not. This game is about that. It doesn't matter that these Dallas Cowboys had nothing to do with what happened to Ken Hamlin. What does matter is they think as well as the media, that we will go quietly in the night. Its time to show them we are wrong.

I've had this game circled with as much importance as the St. Louis games. Even more so. We by any means on paper, should beat St. Loius. So beating them was important. But this game is even more then that. Dallas, by any means, is pretty much our equal. But what Dallas doesn't have, is our sense of hunger. Because our team is hungry, hungry to prove to everyone, that you do NOT come up here and beat us in our own stadium. Not when we must do it for everyone who ever supported us in the past, present or future.

Especially for Ken.

  1. Agree with everything you said about this game...except the 'equal' part....they were inferior last year, and inferior this year...maybe tough to beat wise, yes, it depends on what you mean by 'equal'...

We definitely dont have the same offense and defense...without Jones, their offense will have a ton of trouble keeping up with ours, and their defense is good, but not enough to stop our steam machine...

I honestly think Hass is going to come out ripping this team to shreds...250+ Passing yards, 100 more for Shaun...while Dallas has to play catch up all day, and pass it (though theyll being passing no matter what with Jones out)...their passing game looks good stats wise...but they havent played a decent secondary (granted ours, aint great either YET)...but we have the firepower to keep up...

I say a close game, gotta go with us 27-21 (why do I have the feeling one of the teams will score 24 no matter what??)

Theyll play catch up...and Seattle should score almost as quick as i did with the model chick ;) (had to throw it in!)

  3. Sunday will answer the question that's been looming since Chenney. Are the Hawks an elite team?

Despite the losses, being able to climb back into the game against JAX and WAS showed heart. The win in STL showed there isn't a mental problem. Burying Houston as expected showed they could focus against a lesser opponent. Sunday against Dallas will tell us if they have the intangibles--if they have taken the next step.

Sunday is a must win game. Being 5 and 2 is a lot different than 4 and 3. A win begins to close the door on the division, and puts the NFC on notice. A loss breathes life into STL and revives the "same-old-Seahawks" chants. The result will echo through the rest of the season—the division, the NFC, the playoffs.

A lesser team looks at missing receivers, and a hospitalized defensive leader, and buckles. An elite team looks past the setbacks to their goal, and makes it happen.

Sunday against Dallas the questions in Chenney get answered.

  4. LOL Paulie.

"enough about the past " There it is!

"People said we were done, we had missed our "window". " Who the F said that? I never heard that, they are wrong, our window would just be opening, if SA is signed we have 3 to 4 years of #1 offense in the NFL. That is a ridiculous comment, I'm not attributing it to you Stu, but if someone said that they are h-i-g-h high.

I think I'd prefer Jones in over the GAY-Train, Jones is a back that Tattoo can keep up with, Train is the type of back that can run over a smaller guy like Lofa, given enough chances. That said I agree with ADP that either or, the running game won't come into play.

I see Hannam as the hero this week, o-line play will have to be extraordinary, if we protect the QB, WE WILL PROTECT THIS HOUSE, even though that dude was resigned to the 'Girls much to my chagrin.

And as always, pressure. I think their o-line problems will probably be overblown, the guy they are sliding in is a good backup from what I have heard from Dallas friends, Torrin Tucker. Also heard they may move the LG Allen to LT and have Tucker play LG. We'll see.

I have had this game circled myself, if only the use the PROTECT THIS HOUSE line a few more times, thank you Eric Ogbogu.

  5. My only disappointment is that Vinny Testaverde won't be on the field to meet Mr. Fisher, Mr. Wistrom, Mr. Darby and Mr. Tubbs!

After we win we should send this foursome to NY to personally smack Vinny "Phantom" T. up side the head.

  7. In regards to the window closing comment, I feel like before the season started that is essentially the attitude the press and others felt towards our team. They felt last year was pretty much the best our personnell could do, and we wouldn't get any further than that unless changes were made with the coaching and whatnot. I mean they wanted to say the Cardinals were going to beat us for crying out loud.

  8. I also think the whole Seattle group, media, and fans in general felt just a little defeated after last year...two years, didn't seem like the team progressed, refs still screwed us, the team still blew leads, and then the humiliating loss to the Rams early on...and then being eliminatedby them at home, on top of it...

After a season like that, you cant help but feel defeated...im glad some of the fans had low expectations this year, because now its been a pleasant surprise...

This team is not only gaining confidence on its own, but its also giving us fans a reason to watch...and its understanable why some people are pessimistic, and some media guys are skeptical around here...thats just the Seattle media, as the national media has their own biased issues

  9. I agree that this is just game is as big if not bigger than the Rams win. If we handle Dallas in a convincing fashion the national media will be all over the Seahawks jocks as the "team to beat" in the NFC. I mean I heard some sports radio guys here in LA already claiming that the Cowboys were the best team in the NFC.

As far as the window being closed issue. I have to admit that I didn't have high hopes about this team going into this year. Especially after the week one loss it wasn't looking too good. It's good to see that maybe they have turned the corner.

Unfortunately one loss could bring the whole house of cards crashing down and let that doubt creep back in.

We need a big win this week.

  10. One thing is for sure, we should find out who the contenders are and who the pretenders are. I think its still early to start calling a team the team to beat in the NFC but the winner of this game should get a leg up in that vote.

With last years game and this game looming, the Cowboys/Seahawks could be generating a decent looking rivalry.

  11. CitK - actually, the first game wasn't a blow out until later in the 4th quarter when Matt had 2 turnovers. Until then, if we could have pulled a sustained drive out of our arses, we could have won that game.

And the Seahawks/Cowboys game could become a minor rivalry, but I don't think we'll see them often enough on our schedule to make it anything major.

ESPN ran through 5 key game matchups this morning, and ours was the feature game. They spent the whole time talking about what the 'Girls need to do to cool down Matt and try and contain Shaun. I was initially pissed that they kept talking about Dallas, but then realized that by doing so, they were stipulating that we were the superior team.

Word's leaking out about us, and we're starting to blip on everyone's radar. Let's hope the boys don't crash land on Sunday!

  12. "Correct answer: The first one was pretty much a blowout.  " Concur with alba, had they run the ball, we would've won that game.

Regarding Girls/Hawks rivalry, isn't Dallas everybody's rival? Americas team? Thanksgiving @ home every year? Man I dislike the Cows greatly.

  13. I have to comment on ADP's response......about "feeling defeated" after last season. I for one never felt that (ask the locals), I have said all along that the problem with out team last season was the injuries to vital defensive players combined with the lack of consistancy on the WR side of the passing game(it seems Matt has a lot more confidence in his WRs this season)...oh and questionable pass protection (consistant).

This team was ready last year, but it was hit with the same old bugaboos. Officiating (as mentioned), injuries, and poor celestial alignment. Whatever the cause of last season's 'slip', this is the season the experience shows through, the growing pains ease, and the memories(nightmares) of the past fade, and the Seahawks move on.

Now let us lift our chalis filled with 'Aid, and drink to our team and a victory! Let's Go Seahawks!

    That is all........

  14. oh, without a doubt Vinny, I wasnt saying anything like that...I was talking defeated as in the result of a combination of all that...I couldnt imagine any fan of the Seahawks not feeling humiliated after the playoffs last year, as thats how our season was capped off...

all that stuff will wash away eventually, and I smell a fresh scent this year, and for once it isnt Torry Holt's fire he left after he burn our corners
