The Power 5

I know power rankings dont mean a lot...but its nice to see the Hawks in the Top 5. So are these teams real contenders or just pretenders ??? how will each of these teams fare??? Any one care to take a guess??

For what it's worth here is what I think of the Power 5:

1) The Colts -
They look like the real deal...but undefeated...I think not. I also do not believe that they will be in the super bowl. Final record 14-2 or 13-3.

2) The Steelers -
My pick to represent the AFC in the super bowl. This is a tough gritty team and they have a great QB. Final record 12-4.

3) The Bucs -
Great start but health issues at RB ( I dont think the Caddy can hold up all season) and no Greise equals trouble. granted Simms could be that good ...but I just don't believe he is ready. Final record 10-6. They lose in second round of playoffs.

4) The Broncos -
Don't they look great! But losing last week and their recent playoff history has me believeing that they are a pretender. Final record 11-5.

5) The Seahawks -
I may catch some heat for this but...I think we have a real shot at a couple of things...first the next 3 games for the Hawks are winnable...if we do we are 8-2 heading into Philly. Philly looks beatable at home. The Giants are not the same team on the road as they are at home. That means the real true test will be the Colts. That said I believe that the Seahawks will be 12-4 and will get home field through out the playoffs!

Well I put myself out on a limb...what do you think?

  1. The Falcons will win the Super Bowl.

Maybe the Falcons is the name of your fantasy team, or maybe you're talking about your latest all night sesson on Madden '05, but I think you're high on crack if you think that Mike Vick is going to lead that team anywhere NEAR the Superbowl.

Dude had 3 interceptions and NO TOUCHDOWNS against THE FREAKING JETS!! Sure he can make stuff happen with his legs, like increasing his chances of being carted off the field on a stretcher!

And, if by some supreme act of God and Ron Mexico the Falcons DO wind up in the Superbowl, you really think they have a chance against the defenses of Steelers, Colts, Broncos or Patriots?

Or do you have the Texans representing the AFC in this fantasy Superbowl of yours?

  5. lol...

im still perplexed with Atlanta being the only NFC team ranked ahead of us...

I hate power rankings as well, but always make rounds and read a few each week, just to get a feel for what the nation sees with this team...unfortunately, the entire nation is a bunch of braindead zombies biased to the heart (the East coast) rather then their brain (being fair, and unbiased)

Seattle is definitely in the top 5 teams this year...

TB has not played a single team with a winning record, and their QB is gone...

Philly has always been overrated and will be continuely exposed to the many better teams in the NFL (once again...they finally beat a good team in the Chargers, but by luck...not skill...though stuffinh LT was pretty good...but even a blind squirrel gets a nut)

Dallas lost to us and has a weak overrated offense (didnt everyone jump on Bledsoe's bandwagon the whole year until that pick?...I remember hearing about how he lead the league in passer rating all freaking year)

Atlanta lost to us...in a game that wasn't as close as the score shown...and dont forget the fumble we forced at their one yard line, only to have the refs completely screw us outta a sure touchdown had they given us the rightful possession

Washington is overrated, and there is no way their offense keeps up the way they've been going...everyone says their offense is great, but the truth is Santana Moss is carrying them...im in Maryland so I see them alot...Portis just not scored his first rushing TD of the year...not to mention the horrible PI call against Boulware that turned a punt into a touchdown

Giants are overrated, and their comeback against Denver was not as impressive as our win against Dallas...they drove downfield a bunch of yards to win it...we had to score 10 points in 2 minutes including a 81 yard drive to win ours...their offense can't outgun our offense and their execution is very sloppy...they'll fall back down to earth soon

    that leaves two teams...

Carolina and Seattle...and I wont explain what I think with them...to me, they are the two best NFC teams right now, and both can beat anyone in the league right now...it was a 3 team race until we punked Dallas out...Philly can get credit all they want, but should Seattle keep their main guys healthy, and the same for Carolina...Philly will go down like they shoulda gone down last year, had those teams not have major injuries (and screwsjobs for us)

AFC is different...right now Seattle is the #2 team in the entire NFL, now that Denver lost...I would rank

    1. Indy (the Rams exposed them, like I said they would...Indy wont win against teams in a shootout...or teams that have great offensive execution...aka New England)

    2. Seattle
    3. Denver (just bad luck with the Giants)
    4. Carolina (people are sleeping on them...)
    5. Pittsburgh (wouldnt here if they didnt manhandle the Bengals...that game just added a question instead of answers...are the Bengals a fluke? or are the Steelers that good?...ill go with the Steelers right now)

  6. No mention here of Cincy, Jax, or SD? I think two of those three should be in the top five. The other three, I would have as Hawks, Pittsburgh and obviously Indy.

  7. The PR is like dating an ugly girl. When your team is in the top 5--and nobody is looking--you revel in the her bossom. When your team is not ranked high--and people are looking--you want nothing to do with her. That being said...

I buy Indy and Pitt, but I think Indy is vulnerable. Too much history of looking good during the season and loosing the play-offs. Did you hear Manning mic'd up? Tell me his linemen don't want to punch him in the mouth by the end of the season. What a know-it-all, sanctimonious ass. Maybe that's why lose every post season. Not to mention they get to play Houston twice.

Tampa Bay led by Sims???? Didn't anyone see this guy in college? In a game that matters, the guy folds like a nacho left too long in warm cheese. Wilma flattened South Florida, Sims will flatten the Tampa/St. Pete.

I'm not sold on Denver--mostly because I just hate Denver. In my opinion, any win they get is because they cheated, got lucky, or both. I'm pulling for the Bolts--the best 3-4 team ever--to run them down by the final week, and then crush them in the last game to win the division.

Atlanta to win the SB? Take away the 17 points the Jets spotted them Monday and they loose the game. They beat a team with a QB who shows his AARP card for ID, and parks in handicap spots because he's one step away from injuring an achilles--oh wait that happened. This isn't the NBA where one great talent can win a championship. Atlanta wins the SB, please.

  8. Which PR has us @ 5? Agree with Bo, these things suck (again, like ugly girls). The only one worth looking at is the Fox one, since its based on stats and wins and stuff like that, not based on whether or not the writer used to cover them for the Boston Globe, NY Times, Washington Post, etc, or used to play for them (looking at you "playmaker", you'd fit in well on the Viqueens), or being ordered to like them by the NFL.

That said, Fox  has us at 6, and the best in the NFC. That seems reasonable to me. That said, we can beat any of the 5 AFC teams above us (should've had one done, run the ball), but only have to play one, at least until the Detroit game.

  9. why do I feel we're so high on their list because of the Houston game...

BSPN (not a typo...BIASED SPN) probably only watched two games this year

  11. I was looking at the upcoming schedule earlier today. There are only 3 teams on it with winning records - Giants, Eagles, and Colts. If all we do is win the games we SHOULD win (49ers, Lambs, Cards, Titans and Packers) we'll be at 11-5. The other three teams are teams we COULD beat. I'd bet we go 2 of 3 on them. Not sure which though. That puts us at 13-3. Of course, it's pretty rare that a team beats all the teams they SHOULD beat, especially the Seahawks. So we loose one of the SHOULD win games, probably to the 49ers, and we finish 12-4.
