Week 1 Knock Out Pool: For Keepsies!

We had the preseason to practice our picks and get a hang of the rules, but now we're playing "for keepsies!" I brought back the original KO Lady for this inuagural post, mostly so the returning players would notice, but intend to rotate the boxing hotties during the season.

Sometimes called Suicide Pools, this is where you pick one game per week, without the point spread, and see if you can be the last player standing, as others get knocked out of the pool.

There are three simple rules to follow, and I've added a specific Seahawk Kicker*:

1. Pick the outright winner of one game each week
2. You cannot pick FOR or AGAINST the same team again once you use a team
3. If your team wins, you pick again the following week, otherwise, you're KNOCKED OUT!

* SEAHAWK KICKER: You can pick FOR the Seahawks as many times as you'd like, but you cannot pick AGAINST them!

So for instance, if you pick the Seahawks to beat the Lions in Week 1, when the Seahawks win, you'll live to play the following week. However, you cannot pick AGAINST the Lions again for the rest of the season, but the Seahawk Kicker* will allow you to pick the Seahawks again to beat the Cardinals in Week 2.

We hope to have all last year's contenders participating again this year, including the Undisputed 12 Seahawks Street Knockout Pool Champion!

Your pick must be submitted the day before the game, and if you don't submit a pick for a week you will be DQed. To submit your pick, either post it in the Comments section, or email me at albanyhawker@seahawkblue.com. I will post the picks in the body of this topic, along with the teams used each week.

Good luck!

    Seahawks!

  10. This one's to easy, Hawks over Lions.

  11. PATS over BILLS. I see I'm not the first to come up with this, but an awful lot of the other games look, you know, hard.

  12. Tennessee over the N.Y. Jets.
    Dare to be different.

  13. I overthought last season, had all my picks lined up for eight weeks, and then proceeded to get bumped in the first round.

So this time, I'm ignoring my head and picking from my heart - Seahawks over Lions.

  14. Okay, here's one that could very well get me knocked out in Week One, but then I feel it's important to keep the Bills and Lions around to beat up on later in the year. So, I'll go with....

    Miami over Pittsburgh

For one, it's looks like Hines Ward and Big (But Not Big Enough To Score That TD in the Super Bowl) Ben are out. Plus, it feels good to pick against the Steelers. REEEEAAAALLLLL good.

Even though the refs will be in full force to give Pitt the 12th-through-16th Men, that still can't overcome the legend that is Charlie Batch.

Hey Dante, keep rollin' there, pimp!

  15. Unlike J.L. above, this pick was terribly excrutiating for me! But, I gots to pick against dem sooner or later......Miami over Pittsburgh.

Good Luck guys and let's have some fun! (Actually, I know it won't be so fun watching me win every week but, hey, I understand!) LOL!

    Peace!

  17. Hi, I'm here from the PI forums (thanks for the link Alba)

saving teams like lions and bills for later is a winning strategy like JL pointed out but I am not quite so bold as to pick against the steelers in week 1 either, so I will go with Panthers at home over the Falcons.

    good luck all :)

  18. I gotta go with the Seahawks over the Lions.

  19. It's been a painful offseason, and I'm damn good and ready for the "real" games to start.

For week 1, I'll take Washington over the Viqueens - now with 100% less Koren Robinson! Maybe they should put Hutchinsonofawhore in for punt returns.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Picking againsts the Stealers... inspired. I'd almost say that there could be a Stealers kicker too, you can always pick AGAINST them. I'm not bitter.

Also like the Deadskins over Queens. Cuz F them Queens. Nice to see antipathy is alive and well.

I'll take the BottomCats over the Dirty Herpified Birds. Bounce passes are only legal in basketball Mr. Mexico.

  21. Hey, I also thought about Miami over Pittsburgh. If Culpepper can handle the Steeler defense, it shoould be a great game.

And yes, I do enjoy discussing other people's picks. It pretty much makes my day!

  22. I'll take the 'Hawks.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'll take Arizona over the 49ers

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks for setting up the pool, alba.

I'll take the Eagles over Reggie Bush and the Texans. Oh, wait...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Denver over the Crapheads

    ReplyDelete
  26. got 'em

Boke - you don't want to save your pick against the Rams for when the Seahawks play them??!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I will take miami over the stealers

    ReplyDelete
  28. First week, I'll take the Chargers over the Faders

    ReplyDelete
  29. Some interesting picks in there, especially those who are jumping on the Dolphins bandwagon...hehe sorry suckers, Dante SUCKS!!! After he throws 5 picks and fumbles three times against the Steelers, you'll see. Just like he constantly did in Minn.

But I am torn, I want to pick The Skins over the Vikes, cuz the Skins have a great D, but with the Seahawks kicker...I just have to pick our beloved Seahawks to win, (so I can keep picking them :P cuz they're gonna win a lot of games this year!)

  30. I'll take the Pats over the Bills. Hate to follow the crowd - really not my thing - but its the one that (Shawn) springs out at me this week, and I see no point in planning ahead too much here.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I'll take NE at home over Buffalo.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The Hawks got flat out beat by the Jaguars in their season opener last year. So Im confident that the Jags will take out T.O. and the Cowboys, much like they did to us last year in weak 1.
    JAGUARS over COWBOYS!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ill go with the Bears over the Packers.

  34. ABQHWKSFAN - what in the name of all that's holy does THAT handle stand for??!!

F-12 - did you see Jack Del Rio is again pulling his "I'm making the visitors where their dark shirts" crap again with the Cowboys. Man, talk about having more confidence in the weather than your own players!

Monkey - glad to see you back, now GET RANTING!!!

  35. For purposes of documentation, since these comments cannot be edited, my pick is Eagles over Texans

  36. Could it Albaquerce Hawk?

Why yes, I did butcher the spelling of that city.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Who knew Bugs Bunny was a Seahawks fan??!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Philadelphia Iggles over the Houston Wrexans

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'll take Tampa Bay over Baltimore for $100, Alex.

  40. I don't know how rule #2 is possible, assuming one makes it into week 8 or further. There is a very real chance that there will be no one EXCEPT the Seahawks who you could pick.

That said, I'll take the Panthers over the Falcons.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Simple, I guess the rule's not as clear as I intended.

You can pick FOR a team only once. And you can pick AGAINST a team only once.

You can pick AGAINST the Lions this week, but pick FOR them the week they play the Packers, but you wouldn't be able to pick AGAINST them again when they go to play the Bears.

  42. --"Good Luck guys and let's have some fun! (Actually, I know it won't be so fun watching me win every week but, hey, I understand!) LOL!"--

Boy.....that was short lived! Have fun guys! I'm jealous!

  43. Look at the bright side b-man, you didn't go down alone!

And should the Bills pull the upset on Sunday, you'll have a lot of company in Davy Jone's Locker!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Wow, already 3 people knocked out for picking the fins over the Stealers! That was a tough game to pick for the very first week.

slightly exaggerated but suprisingly accurate as well... the two picks on dante late in the game were the deciding factor. good call :)
