Breakout player poll

12 Seahawks Street
Which Seahawks player will have the biggest breakout season?
Marcus Tubbs
D.D. Lewis
Jerramy Stevens
Niko Koutouvides
Michael Boulware
Sean Locklear
Wayne Hunter
Other, answer below

Notice I did not include any of our rookies. That's because they are not the kind of breakout players I am talking about, I am talking about guys who have already played at least one season and have either not reached their full potential or were not given enough playing time or whatever.

I may run another poll just about which rookie will have the biggest impact if you would like me to, but for now I think this is more interesting. Be sure to list the "other" player if you voted other. Let me know why you think what you think about who you voted for. Anyway, have fun with this poll, and like Romey says, "have a take and don't suck".

  1. I would have loved to have voted for my bouy Niko, but I am not certain that my other boy, Lofa won't edge him out of the starting spot right away.

What's funny is, I am still shaking my head over the guy I voted for, I can't believe that I did it. But yes, I voted for Jerramy Stevens. I know that I am probably a sucker, but what I have read about him this offseason, and the seeming trust that he is developing with Hasselbeck leads me to belive that this really truly could finally be the season where he puts it together and has a big year. Call me crazy, but I just have a gut feeling on this one.

  2. I should mention, I thought about including Jerhame Urban on this list, but I didn't because of the sheer numbers of recievers we have on our roster as of now. Right now Urban barely even makes it on our depth chart, if you want to vote for him I will certainly understand, but I just don't realistically expect him to get much playing time where the other guys on this list are either number one or two on the depth chart as far as I know. I realize that Niko might get edged out by Lofa, but he might no as well, and I understand that Hunter and Locklear are battling it out for the RT spot, which is why I included both of them.

There are probably several other names I could have included, but that's why I listed other.

  3. well this was tough between the two poll leaders currently, Tubbs and Stevens...

Boulware really cant do much more then he did even in with his time being limited...he did monumental things...and Niko has to battle to stay in the race...

    the Tackles were obvious...

so it came down to DD, Tubby, and Stevey...DD could be dangerous, but Tubbs seemed to progress the best conditioning wise, but Stevens has an attitude like hes a typical Seattle fan (chip on shoulder)...DD Lewis hasn't done too much to warrant a pick, but i expect him to be solid

I picked Stevens...if he becomes a viable target for Hass, and catches the ball, and runs his routes right...he has a chance to be one of the best Tes in the lead...his size alone keeps him as a sleeper the last few years...2 and 2 together...and he could be dangerous, especially with him drooling over his ridiculous expectation (1200 yards and 15 TDs? or something)

  4. sorry guys. not sure what makes you think this much of two perrennial underachievers. i put my money on dd lewis. it's not that i don't hope your guys surprise me, it's just that i don't EXPECT it.

i expect dd to win the starting job, and wreak havok from day one.

  5. That's why I did this Brett, I know that there are going to be a lot of different ways of looking at this and a lot of different opinions, I can certainly understand why you would go with the more sure thing in Lewis, because you're right in saying that Stevens has always underachieved. The thing is, I don't think Lewis has underachieved, he just isn't all that good IMHO, he's fast enough but when you look back two years ago to when he had some actual playing time, he was often out of position and very very often overpowered. Lewis did a poor to average job of disengaging himself from blocks and just wasn't as instinctive as I like to see a LB play. Of course, that could all change this year, who knows. But that's why I did this poll, to see who thinks what about these guys, I find it all very interesting.

One last thing, I think that Lofa may edge out Niko as the starting MLB but I also think that Niko showed me enough last season at the end there, that he may even get moved outside sometimes to get him playing time. Lewis also might split some time with White and the new guy from the Browns, all this to mee adds up to little chance of being the breakout player. Again, I reserve the right to be happily proven wrong, nothing would make me happier to see Lewis prove me wrong, because if he does our defense will be very very solid at the LB position.

  6. I feel bad for you monkey...

you're stuck in between...obviously you like Niko and Lofa to death...but only one will start...

thats kind of how i am right now with the rumors of Engram being released...i want money for PB, but i dont want Engram to be the one to go

  7. brett, i do have a question...by 'underachiever' you meant just Stevens right? you said two underachievers...are saying Tubbs is the other one? He really hasn't had a chance to play...exactly why everyone around here is calling him a second first rounder for us this year...

i was just confused...I do agreew ith you with Lewis, as i said earlier, i had it down to those 3...DD will be solid, regardless, and hes easily the safest bet of the group

  8. I was going to vote for Tubbs, but then decided to stick with the guy I picked at the Times site....Rocky Bernard/Matt Hasselbeck(can I pick Matt?)

  9. I voted other, and I am calling out Karen. Thats right, Karen! I think she'll make the cut, 1200 yds, 8 to 10 tds, and 4 offical drops.

  10. Well you're almost right about the 'cut' part. :D

  11. Sounds like nay-saying to me Vin... for shame.

Besides, you can't win big betting on the favorite.

  12. It's been stated by a very, very, very reliable source taht My 'former boy' Koren is gone, just a matter of time. Trust me on this.....And nay sayer? Never. I was going to adopt Koren until the word came down. So I am as bummed about the situation as anyone.

But ot really doesn't sound like he's going to be here once the season starts.

  13. And I was informed Matt doesn't qualify, being a former Pro Bowler....so I've gotta stick with Mr. Tubbs.....thought about taking Ken(Easleystein)Hamlin, but goatta stick with the guy I've been defending all season.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't think Matt qualifies because last season wasn't bad, same with the Hammer. Easleystein, LOL, excellent. And re Karen, I would agree he is on the shortest of leashes, and has proven time and again that he won't get his shizzle together, but I got a feeling here, and not just because of his contract. I think he pulls through, Mary quote or no.

On another note, why don't the other NFC west teams refer to us as the Sleestacks? That is way funnier than Sea Chickens or Sea Squawks. Stupid Lamb/Retardinal/Warty Whiner fans.

  15. 20 votes so far and Jerramy Stevens has the lead, guess my argument for him was persuasive.

  16. just got to work, so i'm sorry for the later response to all the banter.

in regard to adp, i would like to confirm that yes, in reference to my "underachiever" label, i was specifically referring to stevens AND tubbs. stevens is the easy target, but you're right, tubbs has had only one season to underachieve. i guess that's why there are so many on his bandwagon.

so the truth is, that i had lumped him in with all the other first round failures, and regarded him as just another high draft pick that will most probably never live up to his expected potential.

the key words here are "most probably". i am not opposed to being proven wrong at all. but in regards to "high-impact draft picks", my policy is pretty much wait-and-see. with tubbs, i'm still waiting, so i'm not sorry about the pessimism.

i thought about hamlin too, vinny. i'm feeling pretty good about our safety situation this year.

good discussions all around, methinks. all of these players have some good arguments pro and con, so hats off to monkey for finding something worth talking about in this slow news period.

  17. in light of that Brett...I just want it known im not on Tubbs' bandwagon...I think he could be solid...but hes no Marcus Stroud or Kris Jenkins...

I would never get on a DT's bandwagon lol

  18. I picked Stevens because with Mili reporting in at a whopping 290 lbs., I think he'll get more chances on the field. Plus a vote of confidence from Hass definately makes me think that he is going to play a bigger part in the game plan.

    BTW: Great site!

  19. thanks for the comment, SF Hawk...

and you said it exactly...Mili is 290 freakin pounds...if Stevens doesn't break out this year, he'll never breakout

I wouldn't be able to live with it if he can't beat out Mili in camp...maybe Mili can be a blocking TE?

  20. SF Hawk, cool man, a new face around here, I like to see that! You'd better bookmark this site, because it's only going to get better and better. Wait till you see the plans for the season coverage! Also there will be more and more adopted players as well. I can hardly wait for the season to begin!

  21. I'm with ADP, excellent points SF....The main thing was the vote of confidence from Matt, I'm assuming Matt knows more about how much he's improved than any of us do. So, Go Jerramy, go Marcus, and GO HAWKS! :D

  22. You may be right check, but I have never been the brightest bulb (pun intended) so why not try again? Maybe this time I'll light up like a Christmas tree.

    ReplyDelete
  23. check is cool. i'm changing my vote to hannam since nobody else liked my boy, dd.

    ReplyDelete
  24. check, Jerramy Stevens is more popular then ever with the biggest reason being Itula Mili's feast during the offseason...hes easily going to get most of the snaps...but this is the last chance im giving him...

for DD Lewis, its just that we know what hes capable of...i personally didnt think he belonged in the poll as opposed to obvious guys like KRob...

  25. im gonna change my vote to the referees

i have a feeling they will only screw us TWICE this year!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. LOL. Fired up, this guy. Commander Tim should hire you to yell at Holmy to yell at the refs during games.

  27. i always thought they should hire me to fight their battles so they dont get fined, suspended, or in basketball's case, a technical foul lol

im not so sure i want to pursue a football career, as good as i feel i am (confident...not arrogant)...i wouldnt get a paycheck if the refs screwed my team
