So I'm trying to do my part by hypothesizing about which Seahawk players might be cut. Being no stranger to blatantly opinionated posting, I have decided to let you all know what I think about the subject in the form of a ranked percentage chart. This will give you limitless possibilities with your bickering.
So here's my list of players, in descending order according to my feelings about what chances they have about being cut.
Bobby Taylor – 99% chance of getting cut
Koren Robinson – 87% chance of getting cut
Antonio Cochran – 49% chance of getting cut
Itula Mili – 25% chance of getting cut
Walter Jones – 11% chance of getting cut
Ok, just kidding with that last one. (Unless he kills at least 4 people in the next week AND is caught on videotape.) So have I missed anyone?
i say urban or even engram have a bigger "chance of being cut" then mili does

Taylor is an absolute given.
ReplyDeleteBased on the info from our insider, I don't think K-Rob gets released, but he's probably more like 60% likely to be.
Cochran is an interesting discussion, although I think the FO and coaching staff is going to let this play out in pre-season, and let guys fight for their positions rather than just cutting them loose.
Mili's got a better than 25% chance of showing up as the next spokesperson for Jenny Craig but I don't see him being cut after the contract he signed.
And if the Seahawks cut Walter after all we've been through to sign him to a long term deal, there would be rioting in the streets...oops...forgot it was Seattle, there would be a lot people who would be miffed...and I mean for a good 10 minutes or so!
i'd just like to point out that we cannot afford to even sign our rookie class at this point, so if we wanted to sign anyone else in free agency, we would need to cut more than just taylor.
ReplyDeleteand we can't even start negotiating with alexander until july, so that (if it happens) will not help us right away.
so if we are to make a run at peter boulware, (as i think we will), then i say krob or cochran would be in peril.
I think Cochran is gone, and I think Bobby is gone. The rest are here for the season, including Shaun.

Pavillion - will you be speaking in rhymes all day, or just for this one post??!!
ReplyDeletefrom john clayton on espn, listing the top players expected to be on the open market after june 1:
ReplyDelete• Koren Robinson, wide receiver, Seahawks: Robinson, despite his dropped passes and off-field troubles, is ticketed to come to training camp and compete for a starting job. But the Seahawks might need Robinson's $1.35 million salary if they decide to sign defensive end Peter Boulware.

Of that list, Mike Barrow and even Rich Gannon sound interesting.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Clayton's been reading our blog.
ReplyDeletehe's a pretty smart guy, so i'm sure he does. (i'm a big fan, mr. clayton. please get me a job...)
ReplyDeleteCheck, don't take this the wrong way, but I hope you're way off on your' prediction on Shaun being signed to a long term contract. He'd suit us well this season, but I still don't think he's the back we need.

Vinny, you kill me!
ReplyDeleteI said it before and I'll say it again. If (since) Shaun makes it (made it) through draft day as a Seahawk, he will retire as a Seahawk.
Posted by PaulieP
retire as a seahawk? no way. (unless he gets injured this season and never returns.)
ReplyDeletei say this season is it.
i don't think he'll get signed anywhere else, and i don't think we'll even try to sign him to a long-term contract.
Why would they not? What do they gain by not signing him? If we finish where most of us expect to (the top part of the league) than drafting a quality running back is out of the question. On the open market, we won't get anyone of his quality for any lower price. And economically it makes sense to sign him as soon as possible. I think Shaun signs the one year deal, and after the CBA is worked out, they sign him to a long term deal. (until it's worked out, signing bonuses are going to be a pain to work out). As of now, there's no reason to think otherwise. Both sides say (although I'll admit it might be media-speak) that they want to get a long term deal done. I think it'll happen.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the date the Hawks are required to be under the cap?

$6 million a year is a lot to pay for a running back. the lack of market at the position bears witness to this fact. there are lots of quality ballcarriers, and it's easy to pick one up in the draft, no matter the round. denver does it every year.
ReplyDeleteshawn could stick here for longer than the one year if he were to take a much lighter salary, but i think the truth is that he has too much pride for that. he'll wait for the big payday.
and i think paying it would be a mistake.
I would include Solomon Bates as someone we will probably cut. He was suppose to be an answer to our ILB problems and with us addressing that in our last two drafts, I don't see him making it at in an already crowded OLB competition.

I just don't think Shaun fits the team, he's not an all purpose back, and this offense needs one.....if the FO was planning on signing him all along, why shop him during the draft(which they did)?
ReplyDeleteThey may sign him to a one year deal, but I doubt they want him as they're career back, especially with all the FA and Rookie Backs that'll be available next season.
I really don't see(and don't want to see) Shaun signed to a longterm contract. Just because I said I'd stop trashing him doesn't mean I changed my mind about his ability to fill teh all around HB shoes we have to fill. And if he sits out camp, he's definitly screwed, because he won't have the time in with the O-line

I really think the CBA affects the lack of contract for Shaun as much as anything else. Shaun wants (and will get close to) an 18-20 million signing bonus. If we sign him over a 6-7 year contract, that works out find (3 mill a year), but that's only after the CBA gets reworked. Until it does, all bonuses need to be prorated over the next 2 (I believe, could be 3) seasons. Which means his signing bonus would hit us at 9 million a year potentially. Not good!
ReplyDeleteAnd he wouldn't be making a salary of 6 million a year either. That's his franchise number, which would only go up next year. His salary number would be more like 3 million a year (but it would be a backloaded contract, so the first year would be around 1-1.5 million).
Also, let's not be confused about this "lack of market". How many runningbacks either signed with a new team or got a bigger contract with their team this year? Lamont Jordan, Ruben Droughns, Ron Dayne, Rudy Johnson, and potentially Eddie George, Ricky Williams, Travis Henry, Brian Westbrook, Anthony Thomas, Edgerrin James, and Shaun Alexander, just off the top of my head. That doesn't even include the rookies Cedric Benson, Ronny Brown, Cadillac Williams, J.J. Arrington, Marion Barber, and Maurice Clarrett. The difference is the salary that Shaun will demand. The trades all fell through because people weren't ready to pay that kind of salary, which I attribute at least partly to the CBA situation. Let's not kid ourselves. If they could get him at a bargain, teams would be falling all over themselves trying to sign Shaun. True the asking price in a trade was only a draft pick, but that is by no means the only thing they'd have to give up. Shaun is going to command a large salary. And he deserves it. There is not one runningback on the market that is better than Shaun (that's my opinion, however biased, and I am including Edge and Westbrook, even though Brian might have fit the Hawks system better ((speaking of, who knows if he would have, the Eagles have had a pretty good team to work around, and for a couple of the last few years, the Hawks have been fairly average))).
There are thousands of sportscars on the market, but that doesn't make a Ferrari any less desirable.

Well done, Pavillion.
ReplyDeleteAnd you must have some programming backgroud as you get additional kudos for the perfectly executed triple embedded parenthesis!
Thanks Alba, I have no programming background, but a little research background, and have used both the embedded parenthesis and brackets system many times.

While I've embedded many parenthesis, I have never embedded a bracket....ok...just that one time...but I was drunk...and in college...and it was my experimental phase!

Taylor is the obvious one
ReplyDeleteI think Mili dug his own grave
and I think a safety and maybe a lb will be gone
for WRs...this is hard...Jason Willis, K Rob, and Wallace have decent chances
if Engram, goes...i will still root for the Seahawks...but that doesn't mean ill like it (another words...DONT CUT HIMMMMMMMM)...hes like 1/3 of a Steve Largent with his consistency and attitude...
According to Mary Smith at the ST site, Engram is as safe as in his mommy's womb...I'm paraphrasing of course!
