Pat On The Backer

Several sources have reported (confirmed by ESPN’s John Clayton) that former Seahawks OLB Chad Brown has agreed to terms with the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots. Brown had visited with Pittsburgh, Denver, New England and New Orleans since being released by the Seahawks on April 21st.

According to Clayton, Brown accepted a two-year, $4 million contract that will pay him $1.5 million in 2005. Brown can earn another $500,000 in incentives based on playing time and performance.

Rest In Peace, The Hawk Inside Chad...

  1. Yep, all you Brown detractors now have your' wish, he's no longer a Hawk. Now we can only hope he took the Bad Seahawk Mojo to N.E. with him.....knowing He and the Pats he'll probably play all season and tear it up. As was mentioned at the Times site. Oh well, congrats Chad, and good luck.

  2. At least he's in the AFC. It actually makes quite a bit of sense for the Pats to take a chance on him given their injury problems last season and the stroke suffered by their MLB.

  3. BTW Vinny, I don't think there were too many Brown detractors at this site, I think that we all just wanted the best player available for the money, and considering Brwons almost constant injuries and the fact that he is now 35 YRS. several of us just felt that he was no longer the best option. That does NOT however mean that we did not appreciate what he did for us, or that we didn't want him back at all. Myself, I would have taken him on this team in a heartbeat if he had been willing to reduce his salary. I will miss Brown, he was the man, but IMHO we are better off now, than we were last year even without him. OUr LB corps is now younger faster and healthier. THe one thing that we will be missing though is Browns ability to pass rush, not sure where we will fill that void. Too bad Brown wouldn't take the offer from us, too bad.

  4. I wish Chad the best, but I think he's going to come up "a season late and a championship short" like Malone and Payton did with the Lakers, and A-Rod and Big Unit are finding out with the Yankees.

Brady's got his fatty deal now so we'll see how hungry he plays next year, and they lost two MAJOR components of their team in Weiss and Crennel.

This is the year where we'll all find out just how much of a genius Bill Bellicheck really is.
