Some Early Power Rankings Have the Seahawks Sliding!

Click the external link to read the full story.(I used this picture just because well...just because it's a beautiful picture!)

According to CBS, the Seahawks rank 17th overall in the newest set of power rankings, behind such teams as the New Orleans Saints, Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings. CBS admitted that they will likely receive some heat for some of their picks. "The fans of the Packers, Bills and Seahawks will be heard loud as they complain about their perches. But the feeling here is Green Bay and Seattle will take a slide and the Bills aren't ready to be a playoff team."

Personally I think they are close on some but wrong on many others. I think that they are vastly over-rating the Saints, the Raiders (who I think will be lucky to finish .500) and the Falcons who may win the division but will not be nearly as good as they think, given the fact they still have little defense and a QB who doesn't know how to pass. I also think that Carolina will be better than last season provided they do not have the injury problems recur, but 11th? That's a bit high in my mind. I also think they are wrong about Buffalo, very wrong, in my opinion Buffalo is a better team than they were last year (slightly) and will likely be a wild card team.
I will however agree wholeheartedly with them about Green Bay who simply lost too much on their offensive line to keep Favre upright or to be consistent in the running game.
What do you guys think? Where do you agree/disagree with the power rankings, or with what I said?

  1. This is exactly the kind of press we can expect to receive until we actually start proving ourselves on the field next season.

And frankly, let them keep underestimating us...it'll give a a little more to prove, and take off a whole lot of pressure.

Looking at this poll you can tell it's not serious when you see the Patriots still ranked on top. I don't care what they did in the draft, when you lose both your O and D coordinators, have your emotional leading LB have a stroke, and cut a character guy like Troy Brown, you're bound to have some drop off.

Of course, then looking at who they have at numbers 2, 3 and 4, it's all about "the marquee" names, and not really about who's improving their team from the inside out.

So like I said, I hope they continue to underestimate the Seahawks, and I hope we shut them up on the field!

  2. Oh yea, two things.

First, I hear Vick also has problems "passing water"!

And that is a BEAUTIFUL picture.

  3. I think the thing that irritated me the most about the Seahawks ranking is that it was based on nothing more thatn "I don't know why, I just have the feeling..."
WHAT!?! Well there's a real scintific stateent for you! What a load of cr@p. I don't know why but I just have the feeling that this power ranking is biased and full of garbage!
That's like saying, "I don't know why, but I think the Patriots will only win one game next season" or "I don't know why, but I just feel like the world will end tomorrow", with no evidence offered whatsoever, just a stupid gut feeling.
Oh well, as you pointed out alba, I would rather be the underdog anyway. It's just that if someone is going to assess something like this, to say, "I don't know why, I just feel..."completely invalidates anything that they might have been trying to achieve so far as I am concerned.

  6. I think he caveated it pretty well, "The reality is, aside from the top four or five teams, and maybe the bottom three, there is very little difference between the others."

I do think him flopping the Saints and the Seahawks would be a good idea though, a little respect for winning the division, beating the Saints, and having a better record last season isn't too much to ask, is it?

And with absolutely no homerism at all, Carolina is that good. I am calling it now, Deshaun Foster will go over 2000 combined yards, they will win NFC South, and they will be in the NFC Champ game and lose to the Hawks.

  7. SJoshC - Let's hope you are a VERY good boy this year so that Santa comes through on that very enticing Christmas wish!

  8. Like I said J.C. I do think that Carolina will be better next season, I really do and I agree with you on Foster (maybe not on the 2000 all purpose yards but) I have drafted Foster the last two years in my fantasy league waiting for his break out year, he's too talented not to. I actually think they will beat the smack out of the Falcons who are a vastly overrated team IMHO. 11th though? Not too far off I guess just think it's a bit high if they are also going to have the Falcons ranked 6, (which is freakin ridiculous!)

  9. Come on Monkey, Vick can pass... VD! That being said, it's not even for sure that Shaun will be a Hawk, and there are still plenty of roster moves available. Ranking teams now is an excercise in futility.

  10. Paulie, what does it matter whether Shaun's on the teamor not, are you saying he'll have to carry the team again this season? Never gonna happen, he'll just be another cog in the machine. As I've said before, any of our HBs could produce enough yards to make teh offense productive, if our O-line will finally gel and play to their abilitys. We don't need an 1800 yd rusher to succeed.

  11. Now now, lets not start this. What I'm saying is that the Hawks are a better team with him, and if we do trade him, we'll get things that will make us a better team. I'm saying that there is entirely too much offseason left to be making polls and predictions.

  12. Sorry PP, just clarifying, I figured what you meant was that Alexander is vital to the team's success, I mis interpreted. No blood, no foul?

  13. one word: SONICS

    go blow yourself Sportsline...

teams I wont mind ahead of us:

Patriots, Eagles, Falcons, Vikings, Steelers, Colts, Chargers, and MAYBE the Panthers...

    anyone else...crap

GB is still weak defensively, Saints are aints, Jags arent quite ready yet, Ravens will never win with Kyle Boller at the helm, Raiders are overrated, Chiefs still have issues, Denver needs a WR...

I do like being the underdog...but it still is annoying we dont get respect for winning our division...I would want to at least be in the top 14...

    ReplyDelete
  14. if the Jets get a CB...ill add them to the list ahead of us...and I dont mean Ty Law, either...

besides, they need a RB as Curtis Martin wont be rushing like he did last year...

  15. two thoughts:

first, i agree with paulie_p on the "futility" of ranking teams this early. in my mind, a case could be made for not believing anything until the regular season begins. proof is in the pudding.

and second, i am happy to see nobody picking the seahawks to win the superbowl like last offseason. nobody wants that. so i don't care who is "ranked" ahead of us.

so there you go. i should get paid.
