P Chris Kluwe
S Omare Lowe

RB Marquis Weeks
LB Tracy White
LB Cornelius Wortham
The following veteran contracts were terminated:
WR Jerome Pathon WR Bobby Shaw
The following players were waived/injury:
DT Rashad Moore (shoulder)
The biggest surpirses to me are Rashad (Booger) Moore and BOTH Kerry Carter And Marquis Weeks getting cut. I would have thought that they would keep at least one of the two RB's in case of injuries. Instead they chose to keep seven recievers, one more than last season, which also is a slight surprise. However, considering the way that the reciever battle has shaped up, with Urban and Hackett and Jurivicius all playing very well, I can certainly understand why they simply decided to just keep them all.
I am also a little surprised at Tracy White being cut. Although I didn't think he had played that well this preseason, I also didn't think he'd played that poorly, while I understand that we do have a glut of LB talent right now, I would have thought that Kas, would get cut before White. Otherwise the rest of the names on this list are not the least bit surprising to me.
Cornelius Wortham Tony Jackson and Doug Nienhuis were the draft picks that were cut.
Here's the final roster.
QB: Matt Hasselbeck, Seneca Wallace, David Greene.
RB: Shaun Alexander, Maurice Morris, Josh Scobey.
FB: Mack Strong, Leonard Weaver.
TE: Jerramy Stevens, Itula Mili, Ryan Hannam.
OL: Walter Jones, Steve Hutchinson, Robbie Tobeck, Chris Gray, Floyd Womack, Sean Locklear, Chris Spencer, Ray Willis, Wayne Hunter.
WR: Darrell Jackson, Bobby Engram, Peter Warrick, Joe Jurevicius, D.J. Hackett, Jerheme Urban, Alex Bannister.
DE: Grant Wistrom, Bryce Fisher, Joe Tafoya, Alain Kashama.
DT: Chuck Darby, Marcus Tubbs, Craig Terrill, Rocky Bernard.
LB: Lofa Tatupu, Jamie Sharper, D.D. Lewis, Leroy Hill, Niko Koutouvides, Kevin Bentley, Isaiah Kacyvenski.
CB: Marcus Trufant, Andre Dyson, Kelly Herndon, Jordan Babineaux.
S: Michael Boulware, Ken Hamlin, Marquand Manuel, John Howell.
K: Josh Brown. P: Leo Araguz. LS: J.P. Darche.
Two guys who I figured wouldn't be cut, but I was hoping would be because I just think they are a waste of roster space, are MAurice Morris and Alex Bannister. Bannister is a lousy WR, who got a ridiculous contract this offseason which I was disapointed with then and now. Morris has never shown me anything, ever, and to be quite frank, I thought that Both Weeks and Carter looked far more promising than this stiff. IMHO Morris is a flop. Had the Hawks cut these two they could have kept Tracy White, who I thought deserved a spot and eiher Carter or Weeks who I think are both better, in fact I think Weeks has alot of upside. But that's just my opinion, I'm sure I'll take alot of heat from the Bannister and Morris fans over this comment, oh well, bring them on, I can handle it.
ReplyDeleteI , too, am surprised at the choice of Keeping kaz over White. Maybe Isaiah was more willing to fetch water for the starters. Aw, who am I kidding? You know he was.
ReplyDeleteAs bad as I feel for what has gone on with Terreal Bierria's family in New Orleans, from a purely football standpoint, I am relieved to hear he is gone. I hated his deep coverage. While this is a team sport, and no single player can win or lose a game for you, he was about as close as you can get to being a game killer.
Waiving Weeks and Carter? All I can figure is that rumbling, tumbling Leonard Weaver is both the 2nd FB and 3rd HB.
So training camp is over. The team is complete. The Season now begins.
Are there any noteworthy DE's on waivers from other teams?
Well...how about Hugh Douglas Blue? I am not big on him, but he is available.
ReplyDeleteMan, not even a chuckle at the booger picked joke. Oh well...my wife laughed, which just shows what a bent sense of humor we two share.
ReplyDeleteBlue...our 3rd RB is Josh Scobey...
ReplyDeleteas for the Kaz/White argument, dont forget Bentley! White was better overall then either one IMO...there is a reason why im so high on White...he doesnt botch tackles, he is never the guy that screws up when we allow a 20 yard run...and hes a perfect fit in our defense---fast...those qualities make him a good run stuffer
as for Bentley and Kaz...nevermind
Gosh the least they could do was convert White to DE

reading around...alot of people are really upset about Weeks and White getting cut...
ReplyDeletethe 3 i have a problem with is White, Weeks, and Hamden who I want on the practice squad...
i really thought Weeks could be a great backup...its pretty obvious they kept Scobey for ST...
so thats two players kept solely for ST...i dont mind Scobey because he helps in an area we have a need
but Bannister is not going to make our ST automatically top 10...hes just one guy...and i rather take the money and sign two guys (Howell and White) who could contribute on ST together
thats two bodies for the price of one on ST...and less wasted roster space
Once again we agree ADP. Don't get me wrong, I believee that S.T. is 1/3 of the game, and as such extremely important. I also believe that Bannister is a terrific ST guy when healthy, he is just not worth the money we pay him or the space he takes on this roster as another WR (and as another WR who can't seem to hold onto the ball). Oh well...I am not the GM for a reason I guess
ReplyDeleteI liked what I saw from Weeks, something that I have to see ever from Morris. That one and the White one may come back to bite us later....let's hope I am wrong.
im glad im converting people to White-likers...i know he struggles sometimes in coverage (thats why i called him a run stuffer)...but bare in mind he only has 3 years under his belt...Kaz has 6...Kaz is in the middle of his prime and last year he didnt do much to show he is going to be a threat
ReplyDeletei just looked at the list of people who MADE the team... ROSTER
notables i dont understand:
Ryan Dutton/P
Kevin House/CB
Ron Smith/DT
are these guys actually on the roster or are they heading to the practice squad or NFL Europe or what? I really have no idea how they made the team...maybe Dutton but the others...huh?
Also, for players cut from other teams, I saw a couple i wouldnt mind on the defensive side of the ball:
Ernest Shazor S/LB/Cardinals
Jashon Sykes LB/Broncos
Attiyah Ellis DE/Panthers (highest draftee that didnt make team)
Rodney Bailey DE/Patriots (had nasty injured a couple years ago...but was effective the year before with 5.5 sacks)
Jamaal Green DE/Eagles
Nate Wayne LB/Eagles (for depth)
obviously these are all depth suggestions, as not many starting qulaity players were released, especially on defense (if at all)

I just wrote at Sando's site exactly how i wanted to explain my problems with White being cut...i rambled on and couldn't put it all together, but I wrote this perfectly:
ReplyDeleteWhite contributes just as much on ST, he played reasonably well for a backup when he was forced to start. He is younger then Kaz, therefore can still improve his cover skills to make hima good balanced LB, especially as a backup, Kaz is in his prime, and hasn't shown anything, really. White also has the speed, which accompanied with his tackles makes him a good run stopper (and if he worked on his coverages, a good all around LB)...Rhodes' defense is supposedly built on speed, and there is no competition there with Kaz and White.
Those are reasons why we are confused, most people are confused when comparing him to Kaz and Bentley, where im confused whether i compare them or not.
You cant say White isn't much difference because he is still younger...i wont throw the word 'potential', but he had room for improvement, which would of kept him moving up the Depth Chart and make him a quality backup...
calmed down yesterday after counting the WRs...and noticed i left one out, so im mad again...Urban and Bannister shouldn't be here...Bannister may be great on ST, but hes been injured a million times, isnt a good WR, and hes one person. One great ST player doesn't make the ST good...in place of him and and someone else (Bentley, Urban, Wunsch...pick one), we could have more ST players who are good (White, Howell for example) and can actually play somewhere else on the field
I also wanted Weeks to stick around, but his situation is understandable...anyone who knows me, knows how high i am on Tracy White, and I have a feeling hes gonna make the Seahawks regret cutting him...the route he is taking reminds me of Morlon Greenwood...decent backup...becomes a great backup...now a starter...thats something White could be within a couple years, and something Kaz will never be because he is barely on the level White's on, and hes had more chances
sorry for the length, im just really annoyed right now...I thought Seattle teams were done hanging on 'good people' but yet Dan Wilson, Kaz, Urban are all still here
thats in response to Sando asking why people are so upset about Tracy White getting cut...he also said to put it this way...would Tracy White make the team a Super Bowl contender? Although he has a point, i dont think its valid simply because you are SUPPOSED TO HAVE THE BEST PLAYERS POSSIBLE ON YOUR TEAM...ive never seen a team draft the 200th best WR while the 6th best is available in a draft, so this is still baffling me
ReplyDeleteeverywhere ive looked in the last 18 hours, people are pissed off that White got cut...he is the biggest Seahawk story fromt he cuts
Monkey, is it Morris's 5.2 career average that leads you to believe he's a "stiff"? I'm not real sure where you're coming from on that one. I liked Weeks too, but he's a good candidate for the practice squad. He's pretty much the same player as Morris so I'm not really sure why you like him and hate Morris. I'm not saying I think Morris is great NFL player, he's your average backup RB. But, he does provide a nice changeup to SA and he knows the offense well.
ReplyDeleteOn Kaz vs. White: Sure, maybe White is a little better. I'd rather have White. But, if either one of those players is a significant contributor on defense, we're in trouble. White is fast and that's about all I have to say about him. Kaz...well, he's not fast and that's about all I have to say about him. Really, people, these are NOT good players and probably won't ever be. Who cares? Six of one, half dozen of the other.
My opinion is that there is nothing to get worked up about in this year's selections. No one made it who clearly shouldn't have (Kaz maybe) and no one got cut who clearly shouldn't have. Pretty ho hum IMO.

Oh, I forgot to add that I am in love with Leonard Weaver. Not the kind of love where I want to make out with him, but, instead, the kind of love only a football fan knows.

I think that it's funny that we have such a knowledgable group of fans that we are discussing a backup LB with such vigor.
ReplyDeleteAwesome Seahawk fans in here!

ReplyDeleteYou pointed out his YPC and I will grant you that is high. My problem with Morris is that he gets those yards mainly untouched but that he doesn't have the size and toughness to be an everydown back. He doesn't catch nearly as well as I had hoped, he doesn't block any better than SA does either. He has enough speed to break a few, but to me, Weeks looks far more like the prototypical RB. I'm just not thrilled at all with Morris, I have watched him enough to say that he's not the worst backup, but he will never be anything more than that, a backup. Just my opinion.
In that case, I think we actually agree, we just may have different expectations for a backup RB. I think Morris does a good job of complementing SA and, when given a chance, has shown an ability to gain some yardage (as evidenced by YPC). I also agree that he will never be more than a changeup/backup, but that is the role he fills on the team, backup RB. I would love to have Jamal Lewis as our backup RB, but that is just not going to happen. I also think we are in agreement in our liking Weeks, but he is not exactly the second coming of Jim Brown, either. He wouldn't have seen time in meaningful situations and, if they can get him onto the practice squad, they get to keep both Weeks and Morris. Morris is valuable, I think, because he has been around, knows what to do and is much different than SA, giving the team the ability to provide different looks. I was careful in my earlier post to point out that I don't think Morris will ever be a great NFL back, but he is our backup after all.
ReplyDeleteIf SA were to get injured, I actually wouldn't mind seeing Weaver get a chance, given that I also don't think Morris has what it takes to be an every-down back. Even though he was playing FB in the preseason I liked him more as a RB than I did Weeks. He looks like he could be a real diamond in the rough.

i will defend him to the death!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletebtw TRACY WHITE WAS CLAIMED OFF WAIVERS BY THE JAGUARS
this is just lovely...our first opponent gets our oddest cut

ok, so you're pissed about white getting cut. i can understand that, it was the biggest surprise to me. but i wasn't in love with him so i think i'll be ok.
ReplyDeletebut i am flabbergasted to hear about all the people pissed about weeks and carter!!! weeks? carter? you'd keep them over morris?!? come on, people! you can't be serious!
neither of these guys are going to touch the ball this season. weeks might get on the practice squad, but really weaver is mack's AND shawn's backup. his versatility is what allowed them to keep scooby and ditch the other guys.
the real reason for these guys getting cut is because our special teams weren't too special last year. don't blame them for trying to improve things by keeping specialists around. so bannister is our gunner. the french dude is our snapper. and scooby returns kicks. stop griping already!
