Can We Breathe Yet?

Given the lack of activity on this and other Seahawks sites, I feel that Seahawk Nation is holding its collective breath until we make it through the next two road games, hopefully returning home to Seattle no worse than 3-2.

The Washington Redskins have had our number the past few seasons, and in fact, are one of only two teams we have never defeated in the Mike Holmgren era. They are currently ranked #3 on defense, so it won't be a walk in the park against them again this year.

How we fair in the nation's capital could very well predetermine the outcome of the following game, which of course is our return trip to St. Louis to face the Rams. Even with the 49ers coming out of the gates stronger than anyone expected them to, the NFC West still appears to be a two horse race between us and the Rams, and this game will be our first opportunity to not only defend our divisional crown, but get one gorilla-sized monkey off our backs by beating our arch nemesis.

We all know that this year's Seahawks team is much different than last year's version, from the personnel, attitude, coaching, to relative good health, but that still can't stop the Seahawk faithful from being skeptical, and downright a little fearful, of the next two ball games.

We've seen Seahawks teams of the past start strong, come out flat in games they should win, and experience tough losses, the result of which can carry through the entire rest of the season.

But I'm here to tell everyone to relax...breathe deep...and drink a big-ass cup of Ruskell Kool-ade. All will be fine.

We will play a competitive game against the Redskins and come out with a close victory, and then bust out all the stops and have the game of our lives against the Rams, making the second half of the Cardinal game look like nothing.

  1. you're the only one holding your breath, alba...ha

im not scared at all about Washington, they haven't proven anything except that they can beat mediocre or worse teams by 2 or less points...

I do feel this is a BAD matchup for us, one of the worst we could have in the NFL...but it should be a cakewalk, if Seattle can get enough pressure and score enough to fight off any deep passes we will probably give up

any defense that has played Chicago and Dallas SHOULD be ranked in the top 5...our offense is at least 2 letter grades above Dallas' and definitely 4 over Chicago's...

if we are on the border of an elite team (I think we are an elite team, but evidence is to the contrary until we stay consistent)...if we are on the border of elite, we will defeat them...they are lesser then us

  2. Man I sure hope you're right alba, I mean really, SOME year has got to be our year. This team can't be snakebit forever...can they?

  3. Not to be disagreeable ADP but I have seen this before, too many times. I am with alba on holding my breath. We did this same thing just last year, only even better going 4-0. This game against the Skins may seem like an easy W to you, but to me, if we can win this game, it means alot more. It's not only on the road, but it's on the east coast, where we have not played well at all. Also, let's face it, the Skins (as abla pointed out) have had our number. They are a better team than the Tards (though not that much) and they are a better coached team.
Are we a better team than the Skins? Heck ya, much better! Should we win this game? I will be pissed if they don't because it's one we should definitely win. WOuld we blow them out if this game was in Seattle? Yep. we would spank em badly, but this game ISN'T in Seattle, and we have been lousy on the road. So am I holding my breath? Yep for two more weeks anyway! This game is bigger than most people think, because it will set the tone for next weeks game which is the biggest of our season. Also because it will excorcise some road demons if we win. This is the NFL where any team can beat any other team on any day, don't count out the Skins at home, that would be a mistake.

  4. i understand how important it is, I truly do...don't think im looking past them...

but although its not a very good matchup for us...its a BAD matchup for them...we can beat teams senseless on the ground and in the air, and there is no way they can stop the offense...so they will have to play catchup up...which their offense isn't good enough to do...

I know Washington has our number, but the last time the two played, and it seems like im the only one who noticed...there was a bad pass interference call that resulted in a pickoff, returned for TD...the refs took the play back, even though the ball was tipped before Springs (I think...it wasnt Trufant...hmm not sure) took it back for the TD...that was a very costly play for us, and of course Washington scored on that drive...

that was the game i was surprised that noone included in the ref screwjob database...I thought it was worse then the SF game later that year that some Seattle writers brought up on a few occassions...

basically...we don't know who we will be facing...Washington played two weak teams, one horrible...so i cant buy the 2-0 start yet...

if we lose this game, its more on the Seahawks then the Redskins...

truth be told, im nervous EVERY game...thats why my nails never grow...I was more nervous against Arizona then Atlanta or to a bigger extent, Jacksonville...I believe we are a dangerous team...and dangerous teams will win these kind of games...so im not worried

im confident...but if we lose...that sucks butt

  5. I'm holding my breath too (and turning a nice Seahawk blue). I agree that for some reason the Seahawks always seem to lose these kind of games. In the last few years I remember enduring several games where they let bad teams hang around only to lose on stupid mistakes, like giving up a long bomb at the end of the game, or dropping a critical pass.

Also it would be nice if they could put together a complete game rather than just a good half, which they have yet to accomplish so far this season. For example, in the first half of the Cardinal game they did not play very well (If Anquan Boldin doesn't fall down on that wide open 45 yard gainer the Seahawks are trailing at the half), but came out in the second half and trounced them. Of course the Cardinals had a lot to do with that with all the turnovers.

I was glad to see that at least in that game that they seemed to make some adjustments, unlike the other two, where it seemed to be the other coaches who "figured out" what the Seahawks were doing.

I hate to sound like Mr. Negative here, but as you can probably tell I've seen this too many times to count in the many years following this team. I hope they prove me wrong and put a beating on the Redskins and keep it going by spanking the Lambs next week.

    Go Seahawks,

    Dusto

  6. keep in mind one of the 2 turnovers we got was the game ending...

    that one didnt matter

so turnovers didnt play much of a role against Arizona as ive seen a few people point out...

i understand where everyone is coming from, where the Seahawks tend to let up on these games...i think im just really confident this year...this team is different...i mean...DIFFERENT...no KRob, no major injuries...lot better

  7. Man you are right alba, I am uninterested in talking much for the next two weeks. Then I will reconvene on the kool-aid kick. Unless... nope, not even gonna think about it.
