Click the links below to see the recipients of the Week #2 "Streeties" - the 12 Seahawks Street Blog Contributor awards. Each award is given for a specific accompishment by a player or the team, which is somehow particular to the sponsoring contributor. Any contributor can create and present a "Streetie", and any visitor can provide comments on each award, either agreeing or disagreeing with the selection logic and winner.
So, without any further review, the "Streeties" go to...
Alan's DOG: Drive of the Game *NEW!
Bluefoot's Weekly Grades *NEW!
Blue7's Lucky Bastard of the Week Award
This One's on Check Award *NEW!

Monkey's Banana Peel Award *NEW!
alba's Moonlight Graham Award *NEW!
(if the link is not active, the award/sub-blog site is not yet ready for publication. check back often to see if updates have been made and new award topics posted)
I imagine we could condense each sponsor's award graphic down to icon size and place it in front of the links above, to give the post a litle more character.

That is much cleaner, and alba's idea is good too.

I like it too!
ReplyDeleteYou'll just have to remember while navigating that the comments of the sub-blogs won't appear in the 'recent comments' hack on the main site. Also, the awards won't appear directly on the SportsSpyder main site. But it makes our 'front' appear much nicer.

I think we can live with that. Some of the comments on the Award pages probably aren't fit for "national" consumption anyway!!!

Just made the point in the Flooble, but I'll make it here too so it sticks around. What if we turn commenting OFF on our sub-blogs, and direct people back to this comment section (on the Awards Index Post) to leave their reactions.
ReplyDeleteThe good news is that these comments will now show up in the Recent Comments list. The bad news is that comments about different awards will be intermingled.
What do you think?

As the saying goes..."it's so crazy, it just...might...work".
ReplyDelete(Putting the comment here so it shows in the Recent Posts.)
ReplyDeleteNot to turn this into a neighborhood lovefest, but I can't find anything to disagree with either.
Finally getting to watch games, I too was geeked at all the special replays of Walter Jones. For me all these years, he's been like Jesus. I read a lot about him, and know that he is a diety, but I just never was able to see difinitive proof. Now I'm like the Lady of Fatima!
To take the receiver comment one more step further, not only were they catching the balls but they were riding the YAK...Yards After the Katch! In Jax, we were getting nailed after every catch, mainly because Matt wasn't leading the guys, or throwing into tight coverage. Against Atlanta, guys were running free which really helped our 2nd quarter outburst.
And talk about re-inventing yourself, Shaun Alexander is single-handedly running his own version of extreme makeover! Not only is he blocking and catching screen passes, but anytime he opens his mouth to speak it's all about TEAM - TEAM - TEAM. Has anyone noticed the new "Quote of the Moment" below?
The "burping the baby" thing is a little lame, IMHO, but even that is a selfless tribute to someone else!
I am really looking forward to continuing this effort against the Tards and laying claim from this division from Week 3, and never letting go of it.

"Shaun Alexander is single-handedly running his own version of extreme makeover "
ReplyDeleteHe is getting passes thrown to him, you can't catch if they aren't thrown... and I still don't think he ever said anything other than the stabbed comment that wasn't team first. I don't think he changed much, he is still running for the money (admittedly) but he is one of the best running backs in the NFL today.
See here where the Big Show actually has to remind himself RUN THE BALL. I hope he keeps that written there forever. If it ever becomes a down by 14 in the last quarter situation, he can cover it up with a piece of tape or something... but that tape better come off for OT.

I can't remember where, but I was either reading or watching somethign that referred to SA coming up under Ricky Watters, and "learned" Ricky's way of demanding the ball and pouting if he didn't get it.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying SA is a selfish player, and the BackStab comment was blown WAY out of proportion. The difference I see is that he seems to be going from a teamMATE to a team LEADER.
And as much as you can trust what a pro athlete in a contract year says, I truly believe that SA wants to stay in Seattle for the rest of his career. He's not going to stay without the wheelbarrow full of cash he deserves, but a reasonable offer may keep him here.
And if he continues to play smashmouth football like he did on Sunday, I say sign him NOW!

"he seems to be going from a teamMATE to a team LEADER " Conceded, although to a degree I think the media is also blowing the pro-team comments out of proportion, same as they did the anti-team one. It sells.

Two names off the top of my head: Jerome Bettis and Emmitt Smith...
ReplyDeleteI know its hard to believe that Shaun has a good chance to be an alltime great NFL player, but he is certainly on the path...hes been consistently one of the top 3 backs in the league (with LT and PH...maybe the Edge)...and all the greats ended up playing good a little past their prime...
he wouldn't of done what he has done so far if he wasnt great...(first player ever with 4 straight 15 td seasons or something like that...LT might be able to do it)...
I think he is worth the risk, but the contract would have to be smaller then it would of been had we locked him up this past season long term...5 years is reasonable if the money is

5 years INCLUDING this year...
ReplyDeleteand Josch makes a good point...

"Jerome Bettis and Emmitt Smith " Uhh, what? I don't think Shaun will be an "all time great" necessarily, but he is one of the best backs playing today. He'll have problems getting into the HOF, based on Emmitt, Bettis, Martin, Faulk, George all having better shots at it, and probably all within a 8 or 10 year period when Shaun would be in the mix. Unless he gets in 10 or 15 years after he retires, he won't be in until he and all of us are long gone, if ever.
ReplyDeleteAnd agree, he should get a 4 year contract, $15Mil SB, $8Mil or so in salary.
Posted by JoSCh
JoSCh - you gonna get 10% of that as his agent??!!
ReplyDeletePosted by alba
I wish. Why, too much? He'll get at least $12Mil bonus, not a doubt in my mind, and he may go for less salary, or they'll do a 5 year deal that will never see 5 years to push out the cap hit. I think Shaun plays well at 32, and possibly at 33, but he won't last much longer than that.

joSCH How about Curtis Martin? If we were to sign him long term and he played injury free long enough, a very legitimate comparison could be made to Curtis Martin.
