Can You Believe This?

NFL.com has posted their playoff scenarios, and while I think everyone understands this, it was just unbelievable to see it there in black and white:

Seattle clinches a first-round bye with:

1) SEA win OR
2) SEA tie + NYG loss or tie + CAR loss or tie + TB loss or tie OR
3) SEA tie + NYG loss or tie + CHI loss OR
4) SEA tie + CHI loss + CAR loss or tie + TB loss or tie OR
5) NYG loss + CAR loss + TB loss

Forget 2-5 above and just read #1 again...

Seattle clinches a first round-bye with a WIN

That's it. Elegant in its simplicity.

No wishing for six other teams to lost to inferior opponents to give us a shot.

No worrying about wild card implications.

No complex mathmatical possibilities of sticking around for at least another week.

No moral dilemmas of secretly hoping the best players on remaining opponents get hurt before they play us.

SEATTLE CLINCHES

A FIRST ROUND BYE

WITH A WIN!

They control their own destiny.
Are masters of their own domain.
Cooks in their own kitchens.
Captains of their own ship.

You know I could go on, but I'll leave it at that.

And how delicious is the irony that the team that perennially struggled with games after a bye, would work so hard to get the one that really matters.

Yes, my friends, this team not only has a date with Destiny, it's on a mission from God!

  1. I knew staying with the Seahawks for so many years would pay off. Lets go blow Tennessee out of the water and finish the job.

  2. You forgot this little tidbit:

    Seattle clinches homefield advantage:

    1) SEA win + CHI loss or tie OR
    2) SEA tie + CHI loss + NYG loss or tie + TB loss or tie + CAR loss or tie

In other words...GO RON MEXICO! DANCE THE DIRTY BIRD ALL NIGHT LONG!

  3. right you are...but that's icing on the cake.

the point of my piece is that it's early december and we're not hoping to get inot the playoffs, we're thinking about hosting them!

    how great is that??!!

  4. We r in great position Ya'll realize when the meida speaks of the NFC playoff race they state that Seattle is in first place and will probably get home field advantage but then they hurry on to all the other teams that are so much better than Seattle even though the Hawks beat most of them.

  5. So, is it just one Hawk's win, or does Chicago have to lose ALSO? If Chicago has to lose, than that would mean Seattle wouldn't clinch unless they won twice, if Chigago was to win.

  6. Guessing noone read my explanation in the forum section?

I explained all of this as well

A Seattle win gives us a first round bye because it eliminates TB, CAR, NYG...those 3 are TWO games behind, meaning they need to win out, and us lose out to leapfrog...however, they can't tie us, because we hold tie breakers over NYG (Head to Head)...TB, and CAR (Con. Records)

Basically...Chicago is the only threat (Even if they took HFA from us...does it really matter? We'll come in their stadium, score 17 points, and they'll drown it sucky offense)

Good post Alba, definitely less sloppy then mine was...I was tired of waiting for Nfl.com or ESPN.com to update their scenerios...

  7. Right you are ADP.

One win = first round bye
One win + a Bear loss = HFA Throughout the playoffs

Even if Chicago pulls out the miracle and wrestles HFA from us, we still get the bye, and have a very good chance of hosting the NFC Championship game, should Chicago get knocked out in the earlier round.
    (which is highly likely)

  8. Agreed Alba...not only that, if somehow Chicago lasts long enough to meet us for the Championship in their stadium...we'll still murder them...im honestly not scared of them at all...AT ALL...Carolina, Dallas, New York, yes...but Chicago? In the words of Michael Irvin...'pptttthhh please'

BTW...have you noticed this topic is still centered? Its quite queer...even without a farmhouse near! (have no idea why that Robert Frost poem stuck with me all these years)

  9. ADP - it's not showing as centered here. YOu may have to close and refresh your browser.

    Robert Frost...NICE!

  10. I for one want Chi to win, so the Seahawks have to play starters in the Indy game. I want that game to play out to get a real gauge on how good we (they) really are. Or, frankly as long as the starters play the first half, I guess that is a good enough gauge... either way, I want to see Indy vs. Seattle.
