I have to say this, genuinely, straight to the point. I have two tickets to paradise.
Mack Strong deserves to be in the Pro Bowl. Maybe this year, or maybe not, but he deserves the vacation and recognition he hasn't gotten in a long time. Mack Strong is currently 3rd in votes for the NFC.
This FB is one of the, if not, THEE last of a dying breed. Fullbacks used to block full time, and nothing else. Now there are hybrid FBs everywhere (or, in my opinion...TEs in the backfield). Yes its great, grand, yippy...but what about the guys who put grass on their ass, and dirt on their shirt? FBs now are fast with every pass, and want to work in their skirt (what the hell am I saying?)
Give a salute to a dying breed, and to a class act, who has been a top player for years, one of the few that never complained, never changed teams, and never took credit for how they play. Im not saying this as a Seahawk fan...im saying this as an NFL fan.
Vote at the link above and get this guy into the Pro Bowl before time runs out. Endangered species eventually become extinct...and the final Blocking FB deserves one taste of life in paradise.
So what you're saying is when Mack Strong is in our backfield, he's [Eddie] "Money"??!!

Actually, one of my NFL items on my life experiences checklist is to attend a ProBowl in Hawaii. Used to be, that was the only way to see Seahawks play in the post season!

Granted, we all groan when he runs on 3rd and 1, but its outta love (i use that term loosely)...kinda like Mrs. McCown groaning over Josh's coming out of the closet
Gotta love the nostalgia though...say what you want about that song, but it was catchy back in the day, and still is today...though Kris Kross' Jump has mellowed down a bit (I admit to wearing my clothes backwards trying to be like them as a kid...also did it once in high school to mess with my peer's heads)
ReplyDeleteFirst, neither song was/is/will be good. Admittedly just an opinion, but trust me, I'm right on this one.
ReplyDeleteSecond, fullbacks used to run full time, they were always the big fellas, ala Duckett. The halfback was usually a smaller guy who could block (against smaller defensive players overall, and usually took on an LBer anyway, similar size) and catch, ala Dunn. Hence the names, quarter-, half-, full- back. Thats how they'd line up, with the full back generally being the primary ball carrier. It's only fairly recently (60's?) that the half back became the primary carrier.
Third, still some good blocking FBs out there, Neal, Beasley, Richardson.
Finally, I did vote for Mack, multiple times. I wouldn't worry about it, he'll probably get voted in by the players/coaches, and even if he doesn't, he doesn't care.

You know JoSCh...that always bothered me...thanks for clearing that up. I always wondered why the guy FURTHER away from the QUARTER back was called the HALF back, but the guy in between them was called the FULL back.

Safety. Although if I'm not mistaken da Bears actually used an LB there sometimes on obvious run downs. Don't die yet... or at least try not to, I guess that can be a pretty tall order.

I was really hoping for some discussion on this post, hence the relatively inflammatory reply. Particularly Eddie Money discussion. The first name Eddie is almost always a mark of musical ineptitude. Other than Eddie Vedder and that bad-ass mummy/skeleton thing Iron Maiden uses, Eddie sucks. Eddie Money, Eddie Rabbit, Eddie and the Cruisers, Eddie Murphy (great comedian, horrible singer, My Girl Wants to Party All the Time makes me want to listen to Ditka and the Grabowskis), Eddie Jackson (Queensryche, other than Empire... sucks), I'm sure there are plenty others. Actually I also like Eddie Cochran (Summertime Blues), but he's too old to count.
