Available Free Agents, Anyone Interested?

Click the external link for the story from ESPN.com by John Clayton.

I know, I know, it's John Clayton, so take it with a grain of salt, but the list is complete and there are a few names that could be interesting for the right price.

Here are some of the names I find mildly interesting, (for the right price, as I said earlier).

Tai Streets, I think he's better than most people do, not that we really need another #3 type WR but, it's a thought.

Amos Zereoue, a tough runner who could be of some help, if SA continues his hold out.

Scott Gragg, I don't know how Clayton has him ranked so high, he's not that good, but if no RT steps up in training camp, he is a fairly reliable veteran who could help solidify that RT spot. Problem is, I think he'll want more money than we could give him, so this is both a long shot and somewhat unnecessary.

Ellis Johnson, aging, but serviceable. Also probably not a real consideration since we added yet more DT's to our roster, and with Tubbs healthy.

Vinny Testaverde, Adding him would be slightly ironic, but that aside, if the coaching staff is not comfortable with Seneca as our #2 going into the season, I agree with Clayton (OMG did I just say that?!?) that he is the best fit for us of the remaining available veteran QB's. He's ancient, but he can still play enough to be a backup. I would still prefer to just go with Seneca, but if we must add someone, he would be my choice.

What do you guys think? What are your thoughts on the way he ranks these guys, and who we could use. Is there really anyone here who could help us?
I am not sold on any of these names, except Peter Boulware, if he is healthy. That is the only guy on that list that I actually hope we add, again, provided he's actually healthy.

Also, isn't it interesting how many ex Hawks made that list? Some may look at that and say that we've lost a lot of talent, I look at that and sa, that we have lost a lot of headaches and we have replaced some very talented players with others who are just as good, or at least close, but are much better team players. This gives me a great deal of hope for this season, our team as a whole is stronger.

  1. Can't you just see it? The final drive in in the fourth quarter of first playoff game of 05 against the Rams, Hasselbeck has been driving the team stedily downfield, and although we're down by 4 points, the momentum has swung in favor of us, with the clock running down. Oh no! Hass takes a hard shot to the ribs, after completing a short dump off pass to Stevens, for a first down. In comes Testaverde, the sweat starts rolling. He completes a wobbly ugly pass to Jurivicius, mostly because of JJ's hieght and great hands, and he is tackled at the three. The D stacks up to stop the run, so the next two plays go nowhere, stopped cold. Then, third and goal to go at the three, a pass play is called, but Vinny, just can't seem to find anyone open, he could toss it up high to Stevens or JJ who are both somewhat open, but NO!!! He puls the ball down and runs, something crosses the goal line, is it the ball or his helmet? The ref signals touchdown, but wait...OH NO, instant replay shows
that only his helmet crossed the line and time has run out. Holmgren after the game swears that he would never again vote for instant replay (even though it worked) but Holmgren will never get the chance anyway, as he is promptly fired by Allen, who actually happened to be in attendence and was ticked that we lost. Hawks fans everywhere are surprised (not that Holmgren got fired), but that Allen actually cared whether we won or not and that he was in attendence to the game. After the game, FOX sports interviews Koren Robinson (who is still without a job, because he just got out of his third treatment center) who states emphatically, "I would have made the difference if I had been there, Testaverde could have thrown it to me, cuz I would have been open and I woulda hung on to it too."
Shaun Alexander commented that he felt he was stabbed in the back, by not getting the play called for him.
Mike Martz, claimed afterwards, that through a complicated ritual involving chickens and sheep, he had found a way to reverse the curse of #9, which was printed on several signs that fans in attendence were holding up.

  2. If we do bring in a vet QB, we should make Donnie Jones give up his #9 and give it to the backup QB.

  3. Vinny Testy huh? Well, that would surely keep him from burning us at the worst possible moment again....

Wait a minute, maybe its a ploy. Vinny is Italian, so is the Mob and Mafia. the refs are paid, er, uh....compensated by the Family to bend the rules a bit to help in their financial ventures.

By them sending Vinny to Seattle, they could have an insider that could mess up yet another Hawks Superbowl chances, on which they placed the highest ever recorded bet against the Hawks making the Bowl at the begining of the season and rake in enough money to over throw the govermnet once and for all, so they can concentrate their future efforts on overtaking the drug lords of the world.

Leading them to become world leaders consumating a one world government that is so stong even China can't overcome....

Yeah, I could see that happening, it all makes perfect sense now.

  4. I see Eddie George is available...Hmmm, he was injured last season, he has 9 years in the league, has produced a 1000 plus for most of his career, except last season.... He'd probably come dirt cheap. He's tough as they come but I don't know what his health status is like.

Anybody got an insite on Eddie?

Great back up or fill in if needed.

Kordell is on the list too. Hmm, he's a winner. Steelers cut the guy in favor of Maddox even tho he was winning, went to the bears and who knows where else, could come cheap, runs good. be a decent back-up. Not as Ironic as Vinny.

  5. Thing with Kordell Stewart, is that, Seneca is just like him, runs well etc...but I think Seneca's better. Rather than pay for Kordell why not just use the guy we have who plays similar to him?

I watched Eddie George often last season, because my brother (a Cowgirls fan, yuck!) and I hung out at the bar together wathcing football, and I figured it was only fair that if he watched my Hawks play then I would watch his Cowgirls. George showed absolutely nothing last season even before he got hurt. He looked like Jerome Bettis would kick his ass in the 40 yard dash, and he looked like a guy who had nothing left in the tank. No moves to speak of (actually he never really did, he was more of a power runner than anything anyway) and the power he once had is gone. I saw nothing at all from him last season that would make me want him.

One more thing on Kordell, he has won in the past, but with the Bears he was horrible. Really, Kordell has had one good season, the rest were so-so to horrible. To me, that is just not a good enough reason to once again give Seneca no experience. Sooner or later, we will have to actually use Seneca somewhere doing something. Otherwise, it's a wasted pick, and with Green in the fold, that would give us four QB's two with no experience, one who I think sucks, and our starter, why not just skip paying for the one who sucks and go with what we have?

  6. Kordell is an easily rattled QB. One big hit early in the game, and he's done for the game. Opposing Defenses learned this, and even took a penalty or two early just to get a big hit in. That's why he failed.

  7. I agree Paulie, I think that Kordell had some ok success for a year or two, but then teams realized how soft he is mentally, he just lacks mental toughness. I don't think he's an ugrade over Seneca, even though he has more experience.
For that matter, I don't really think Vinny is either, but at least with Vinny, we're talking about a guy, who has played the game for a long time and can be of some use as a sort of role model for Seneca. Last season he was a starter who had some very decent games, (I can't remember the last decent game Stewart had) in fact he threw for quite a lot of yards last season, especially early on. Also, his age would be good for us, in that this will almost certainly be his last year, so we won't try to bring him back next year and at least Senecas progress to the #2 spot will only be impeded one more season.
Like I said in another thread, I watched a lot of Cowgirl games last year with my brother the Cowgirl fan, and for as much as the Cowgirl fans blamed everything on Vinny, he really wasn't all that bad. Their biggest problem was figuring out how to stay balanced, especially early on when Julius Jones was hurt and they were trying to use Eddie George, (who looked absolutely horrible and washed up).

  8. -Tai Streets, IMO WAS underrated, i think age caught up with him now...but he was very underrated back in the day

-I still think Jeff George is a better fit then Vinny T...personally i dont really care if we bring in a veteran QB, because all we would do is get them familiarized with our offense, that way should Hass go down, we can pick up the QB and hes ready...its smart, i think it will happen for someone...though the Seahawks would of signed one by now...they're waiting for a decent QB to be cut

and monkey, im really curious of who on the Rams would lay such a hit on Hass? They're too puny!

  9. Good point about the puny Rams players ADP, but I had to use the Rams or I couldn't get in the part about Martz' number 9 thing, which I still think is hilarious.

  10. yeh, i was making fun of him last night...

    Torry Holt...9 letters...oooooo
    Mike Martz...9 letters...oooooo

scary stuff...Jeff Smoker will probably end up threatening to kill him...

  11. We brought in J George two seasons ago and didn't see a down before we cut him loose. the guy has a Cannon, but thats about it. Hawks need a guy who can get the hell out of the way when the pocket breaks down as was the case regularly until the last 2 seasons.

Check these stats on E George and you tell me if it was a bad season, or just faded away. I thought he was playing hurt for most of last season, 13 games, which is why the production loss IMO.

Don't look to me like he ran out of gas.
Either way, if he still has a couple of good years in him, we cut Mo and we could have a devistating rushing tandem, or if Shaun heads south, he could be a suitable replacement until a feature back could be picked up.
I would rather have Eddie than Mo, personaly, I think he is still fully capable of putting up numbers.
I think people are wrong about EG.
