You Would Think The Bucs Would Be The Pirates

arggghhhhhh ye steal more Bucs personnel...

The Seattle Seahawks have hired former Tampa Bay Buccaneers scouts, Mike Phair and Mike Yowarsky, the team announced today.

“Mike Phair has been with the Buccaneeers for three years, played at Arizona State and will cover the West for us,” said President Tim Ruskell. “He is a young, up-and-coming scout who is an excellent addition to have on our staff.”

Yowarsky joins Seattle after spending the previous 14 years with Tampa Bay as its Southeastern region scout. He joined the Bucs in 1991 after spending the previous year as a graduate assistant at the University of Florida under head coach Steve Spurrier.

"Mike will be our Eastern regional director who was scouting the Southeast for the Buccaneeers the past 14 years,” added Ruskell. “He brings a wealth of experience, contacts and know-how to the staff and myself.”

  1. Ruskell sure seems to be filling his pockets with people he knows... Which is the safe thing to do, but is it the best?

It does worry me a little that Ruskell tends to bring in his homies, rather than hire the best person available, taken from a broader cross section of the pool of applicants.

But then again, when he grabs people that know his values, work well with him, and have a proven track record leading to the Super Bowl, this may be the best thing anyway, especially for a quick turnaround.

  4. If Holmgren fails to get a playoff win this season, will he be the next guy replaced by a Bucaneer?

  5. Doubt it, those Bucs coaches are all Gruden cronies aren't they? Unless you are talking about Gruden? Which I like. Or a Dungy desciple would be good too. Cuz we all know, "You play to win the game!"

Plus I don't know that Ruskell will be all that hot to get rid of the coach anyway, unless he really, really fails.

  6. Sorry, that was Herm Edwards. I like Herm, not Dungy.
