Masthead Greeting Contest

Alright, the paragraph in the masthead admittedly sucks.

I've been struggling with it for a while. I think we need SOMETHING that describes briefly what this site is, and how all Seahawks fans are a part of it. But I'm banging my head on the monitor trying to come up with something good. What we have now is wordy, trite, contrived, and annoying.

So now I turn to you, #12.

What should it say? Should it be a graphic? This is important to this site, so let me know below. You all have a voice.

  1. I think we can use a one sentence very simple tag line under the graphic, like...

Where the "Word on the Street" about the Seahawks Begins!

That being said, we maybe can use a few sentences in the top area of the right nav that invites all who visit to comment and maybe points out how to Flooble.

Which brings me to my next point which is that we need to consolidate the right side nav into a single drop down, although I'm not sure how or if anyone is using it.

Contrary to what I first suggested, the static Creat and Edit links should go away. THis will force folks to drop down the list to get to them.

We should then incorporate the second drop down into the first, and keep it simply called More Seahawks Links. I don't think we need links to the Trib, PI and ST at that level.

I will work on the links page to make it a little more pleasing to the eye.

  2. After re-reading the tag line, I like:

Where the "Word on the Street" about the Seahawks Originates

    better.

  3. The sooner we guys come up with something, the sooner I can take that %#%&@$ thing off!

Another option may be to move the drop down menus there, like one of those fancy-schmancy web sites do.

  4. Actually Blue, with your scolling features item we really don't need an "about this site" section in the right hand nav.

We may need to add some items to the scroll, such as how to flooble, and about this site, and I'm not sure we need to highlight each individual AAS blog, maybe just the main "roster" page.

  5. Cool, good ideas. I agree, the menu needs work, and two of them is clunky and initially confusing.

Anyone else? Noone has a monopoly on good ideas.

  6. Man, how long have you been bottling all this up inside you?

  7. Wanna make a "how to flooble" on page 2?

  8. Please understand I'm not being critical. This site rocks in so many other different ways that these kinds of things stand out cuz they're not up to the standard of excellence of the other features.

We'll get there, and I'm not just spouting ideas but am more than willing to roll up my sleeves and do the work.

(by boss probably wishes I felt the same way about my day job!!)

  9. Where the "Word on the Street" about the Seahawks Originates

I like the notion and the brevity, but I'm concerned that it might get knocked, because we often act as a news repeater, not an originator.

But I think you're getting warmer...

  10. Let me make SURE that everyone knows I take NO OFFENSE to any suggestions here. I believe TO THE BONE that this site is better off when the decisions come from the collective.

  11. how about:

Where the "Word on the Street" about the Seahawks Resonates

    or

Love the Seahawks?...Get the Word on the Street!

    or

    The Rams Suck!

  12. didn't think I offended you, but I didn't want other guys piling on me if they thought I did!

I'll try to shut up now to give others the chance to chime in.

  13. I like the last one.

I like the Word on the Street thing. Maybe something like

"Where the word on the stree is Seahawks"

"We bring the news, you bring the views"

"Lamb, not just for breakfast anymore"

    ReplyDelete
  14. Pavillion...I like all three of yours much better than mine, especially "We bring the news, you bring the views"

Ooops...zippering my lips again..mmm mmmm m mmm mmm mmmm mmm mmm!

  15. I like, it, it's catchy, but it doesn't fit the team collective mentality. "We" and "you" are actually the same people here.

Unless my whole philosophy regarding this is not exactly accurate, but wishful thinking. After all, we have a lot more readers than contributors.

  16. Looking at the graphic accompanying this post, and of course the bouncing bozworth fan, I'm starting to wonder WHERE YOU GET YOUR GRAPHICS FROM??!!!

  17. How about "They print the news, we provide the views"

The THEY in this case is the PI/ST/ESPNs of the world.

  19. I came up with "Your neighborhood for Seahawks news and views."

I'd also vote for "Where the word on the street about the Seahawks resonates"

Or a combo, "Your neighborhood for Seahawks news and views, where the word on the street is... I dunno. Teamwork. Ruskell. Winning. Resonation? Andre Dysons planet head? Shaun Alexanders contract status? Karen Dropinsons unemployment check?

  20. JoSCh - LOL man, I got diet dr. pepper all over my screen!

On the way back from lunch I though the WE should be YOU as in "They print the news, YOU provide the views!"

  21. >>Andre Dysons planet head?

Man, I still can't stop laughing at this!

    ReplyDelete
  22. PLANET HEAD!!! BWAAAA!!

And I thought "Pinky and the Brain" was going to be funny!

  23. Actually I've got a little brainstorm, maybe just a drizzle, though. I'm thinking there may be a javascript that will cycle different messages with each page view.

If I can do it, I'll start using ALL of your ideas!

  24. Nice, it looks good. I clicked it about forty times. Heres another. "Mutton, the other, other, other, white meat."

Mutton is a pretty funny word, unless you're a sheep I guess.

  25. There's nothing in this world like True Love...except of course for an MLT...Mutton Lettuce and Tomato sandwich...with the Mutton sliced nice and thin...oooohhhh!

    "100% Lamb Free"

    Very nice. LOL
