Tough, durable competitor who has never missed a game due to injury (did leave the 2004 Georgia Tech game for two quarters with a thumb injury) … Very confident and respected leader who has adequate arm strength and velocity … Classic left-handed pocket passer whose tosses lose zip and touch when he has to throw on the move.
Greene was a USA Today All-American honorable mention and Atlanta Journal-Constitution all-state and Super Eleven pick at South Gwinnett (Snellville, Ga.) High School. He was named Gwinnett County's co-Offensive Player of the Year andAtlanta Touchdown Club Quarterback of the Year after completing 134 of 227 passes (59.1 percent) for 2,102 yards and 19 touchdowns as a senior, leading the team to back-to-back playoff appearances … Heavily recruited out of high school, Greene decided to stay home and attend Georgia, where he was later joined by his childhood friend, All-American defensive end David Pollack, on the squad.
David Greene set an abundance of SEC and school records during his career and in the process became one of the most beloved players ever to wear the Red and Black.
He started 52 consecutive games over four seasons (an NCAA record), led the Bulldogs to a 42-10 record during that time, four straight bowl games, three straight national top six finishes, two SEC Eastern Division titles (2002 and '03) and the 2002 SEC championship. Greene became the winningest Division 1-A quarterback in NCAA history with 42 career victories breaking the old mark of 39 by Tennessee's Peyton Manning. During that time he also led the Bulldogs to a remarkable 15-2 record when playing on the opponents' home field.
When he left Georgia he was the owner of numerous passing records including SEC marks for Career Passing Yards (11,528), Career Total Offense (11,270), Most Consecutive Passes Without an Interception (214 breaking his own old mark of 176) and Ratio of Attempts/Interceptionis in a Career (1:45.0l, 32 in 1,440). He also set numerous Georgia career records including Passing Yards (11,528), Total Offense (11,270), Pass Attempts (1,440), TD Passes (72), Pass Efficiency Rating (138.3), and Lowest Interception Percentage (2.22%, 32 in 1,440).
Hmmm, a south-paw QB....what did Homly do the last time he had one of those??!!
ReplyDeleteNot a superstar, just a winner. This guy would kill his own mother to win, if only her cornbread wasn't so good.
ReplyDeleteIn my personal opinion he is better then Rogers from Cal. He is smart, calm under pressure, and will press Hasselbeck hard in 2 years if given a fair shot.
Which he wont get.
