Writing on the wall?

The Seahawks currently have 11 WR's on the roster: Darell Jackson, Koren Robinson, Bobby Engram, Joe Jurevicius, Jerome Pathon, Alex Bannister, Jerheme Urban, Taco Wallace, DJ Hackett, Jason Willis and Marque Davis.

I can't see any more than 6 making the final 53-man roster, and we all know Bannister has a spot for good because he is our special teams ace/"gunner".

There has been a lot of discussion about the future of KRob -- will he be a Seahawk come the start of the season?

I have to think the free agent signings of Jurevicius and Pathon might indicate the writing is on the wall.

I think we'll see the following make the roster: DJack, Pathon, Jurevicius, Engram, Urban and Bannister.

Koren (IMO) will be gone sometime after June 1st, although maybe they let him come to camp and fight for a spot. I just don't get the sense that he fits Tim Ruskell's vision for high character/hard working blue collar guys.

Thought?

  1. IrishGreg - Let me be one of the first to welcome you to 12 Seahawks Street!

I definitely think you're on to something here, and whatever Ruskie and Holmy have up their sleeves, nobody can say they're not addressing the issue of drop passes on the off-season!

I don't fully understand the nuances of the salary cap, but if he's not worth much as trade bait, and if he hasn't followed through with his commitment on the off season, I think you're right that K-Rob may be cut after June 1.

A guy I work with ran the retail outlet at a ski resort, and the manager there told him, "If you need to hire 6 people, hire 7. Then on the first day that someone comes in late, or messes up, FIRE THEM, right there, on the spot, in front of everyone else. Guaranteed none of the other 6 will be late or mess up for the entire season."

We may be seeing this same logic applied once camp begins. First guy to drop more than 2 passes in practice gets cut. Then let's see the concentration level of the other guys go up a notch!

  2. I guess I'll sttle for one of the second? to welcome you to this blog site. I am very glad to see your name on board our list of contributors!

As to the article, I have been speculating for quite some time that K Rob will yet be cut after the Jun1 deadline when it helps us most. I also believe that there may be one or two more guys who would surprise us who will also be on their way out the door, (hopefully to make room for someone like Peter Boulware?)

  3. KRob is an interesting subject...

being he is in a contract year...you realize that you can pump some yards out of him and let him go after his contracts expires...but lately, he has done more harm then good...I still love the guy...but just not on OUR team...go somewhere else where I can root for you despite your many drops

  4. K-Rob is a car that leaks oil, needs a muffler, has squeaky breaks but the body is in mint condition.

Ruskell is polishing up the body and throwing duct tape on the rest in hopes of enticing someone to trade for him.

Hopefully that's where our speedy pass rusher or quality backup QB will come from.

  5. Darell Jackson, Koren Robinson, Bobby Engram, Joe Jurevicius, Jerome Pathon, Alex Bannister, Jerheme Urban, Taco Wallace, DJ Hackett, Jason Willis and Marque Davis.

Of these guys, I believe that Jackson, Jurevicius, Pathon, Bannister, (because of his contract and talent at ST) and Urban will be the ones who stick. I would like to say that Engram will as well but he's not getting any younger, though he has proven to be our most consistent hands guy over the years. The rest will be disapeered.

  6. Rev - take a minute and re-read your post. So, on the speculation that he may have a great season in his contract year, we should get rid of him?

If we're gonna lose him anyway, I'll take the fabulous year, tons of yards and TDs, thank you very much.

Urban can get his chance next year when K-Rob is gone one way or the other.

  7. I have to say, barring additional signings, I agree with your picks as to who will stay.

    Jackson
    Pathon
    Jurevicius
    Urban
    Bannister
Most likely Engram (Although DJ Hackett has an outside chance to supplant him)

  8. Just to let you guys know, that's mene mene tekel written on the wall. I just like to show off my superior Biblical knowledge once in a while, my next service will be held...

  9. Superior, Shmooperior. You and the artist forgot "parsin", or "peres".

I like "tekel", though. It means "You have been weighed in the balances and have been found deficient."

    So K-Rob: TEKEL, dude.

  10. I'm assuming that by "drop him" you mean trade him, because cutting him brings us no value either.

I think that's exactly what the FO is trying to do, and you're probably right that if push-comes-to-shove, they will cut him and give the younger "character" guys a chance.

I think Ruskell wants to field a winning team, but I think he's also more concerned about having a group of players he'll feel good talking to his priest/minister/rabbi about.

And speaking of biblical references, I though "mene mene tekel" was that short bald guy sitting next to Dr. Evil in the Austin Powers movies!

  11. Well since I initially picked him as my adoptee, i'll take the other side.......

What 'if' he plays like the guy they saw when they drafted him and what if he's actually gotten straight? What if teh problems are behind him? What then?

You have all already decided he's not going to get his life together, based on what? News articles based on outsiders opinions?

Last I heard he was going to the required # of workouts (alba and Monkey read your' mail)and has moved his mom up here. And is, to this point, toeing the line.

I'm hoping he get's it together, I'm still convinced he's the most 'talented' WR on the team.

  12. And damn it! Someone paint over that damn graffiti!

  13. I agree completely Irish....I was just posing the question 'What if', not saying he 'will' get it together, just asking what everyone would want to do if he get's it together. Wondering if he's already blown his chances with the fans. Everyone has trashed him....I just thought it was only fair to take his side in this little discussion.
