With the 23rd Pick in the 5th Round

Link to Interview

Seattle Seahawks select, Jeb Huckeba OLB/DE ArkansasA versatile player who has played a variety of roles for the Razorbacks, Huckeba also excelled in the classroom, twice earning Academic Honor Roll recognition from the Southeastern Conference. He comes from a football-oriented family, as his father, Ronnie, is an assistant coach at Harding University.

Huckeba (pronounced HUCK-a-BEE) was a Parade All-American at Harding Academy. He was named to The Associated Press Super Team and earned SuperPrep and USA Today All-America honors. He was rated the No. 10 linebacker on the PrepStar Dream Team and the No. 7 linebacker in the nation by Max Emfinger. He was a two-time all-district selection.

It looks like Jeb is into martial arts, check out the link.

Huckeba Has long, lean muscles and looks every bit the part of a linebacker rather than a defensive end … Smooth athlete with good quickness off the snap … Turns the corner with impressive speed and always works hard in pursuit … More of a one-speed type, but shows explosion coming off the edge … Takes proper angles and flashes into plays … Aggressive with initial contact and keeps his feet active on the move … Shows adequate open-field balance and bounces up quickly when knocked down … Redirects off blocks with a sharp burst … Has a nice spin move to elude when attempting to penetrate off the edge … High-motor type who will not give up on the play.

An athletic prospect with growth potential, Huckeba has the physical skills and mental intangibles to develop into a player at the next level. Must spend a year or two adding bulk to his frame, could be used early in his career as a nickel pass rusher. Another character guy, who has played both DE and LB, could become an excellent edge pass rusher, especially in the nickel defense.

  1. I like this pick...but it doesnt completely solve our pass rushing problems

we got so much depth I have no idea who is starting/backing up for our defense

im assuming Niko, Sharper, and Lewis are still the projected starters...so what about Bentley, White, Hill, Huckeba, Tatupu? whats the depth chart looking like...obviously nothing is set...but still, its confusing...

  2. I agree, on both counts, I like this pick too, good value pick definitely, but did we really need another tweener? It will be interesting to see hwo this all shakes out, I know this, Lofa is a real player with heart, the kind of guys who I think we will all come to love, I also think that Jeb can become a very good edge rusher in the nickel D. Spencer has a chance to be a star soon. And Greene is a good backup who Zorn was very sold on. However, none of these guys are starters next year unless they move Spencer to guard. This is such a confusing draft, good players, mostly bad value for when they were picked and no real starters or needs met that I can see. Oh well, sometimes it's these kinds of drafts that everyone remembers as great drafts years down the road. I am starting to see a method to Ruskell's madness, going after "players" instead of talent. Hope it works out with all these tweeners.

  4. OK, now that I read the post, I like this pick. I'd feel even better if the martial arts picture wasn't taken right after the instructor knocked him on his...err...Clayton!

  5. Watched him play for 4 years and have never been impressed. Decent speed but not much of a nose for the ball. Also tended to be abused in the open field
