Wayne Hunter "Getting It".

From Fox Sports.com Seahawks Team Report STOCK RISING:

The Seahawks expected big things from Wayne Hunter when they selected him in the third round of the 2003 draft. After all, the former University of Hawaii offensive tackle is 6-5 and weighs 303 pounds. But when given a chance to strut his stuff the past two preseasons, Hunter usually stumbled -- physically, mentally or a combination of the two. He has struggled to make the transition from a run-and-shoot offense and in taking the needed step up to match the competition at this level. That is changing this offseason. Hunter is not only adding some needed strength and flexibility in the conditioning program, line coach Bill Laveroni is starting to notice that Hunter is "getting it" in their on-field work. Hunter might not figure into the starting lineup situation this season, but at some point the right tackle spot will open when Floyd "Pork Chop" Womack moves to right guard.

My take on this is that it simply couldn't come at a better time with Chris Terry no longer here. If this enormous and very strong man is finally ready to take over the starting RT spot I think we can all breath a collective sigh of relief.

  1. Hunter was one of the first subjects of the revamped Seahawks.com interview series, and he seemed genuinely motivated to take his game to the next level and make a place for himself on this team.

Let's hope this off-season dedication carries over into the pre-season and the regular season, because it's a position where we sure could use some depth.

  2. I think Matt will have some input on this decision, seeing as they'll be protecting his "hASSelbeck!

  3. I would like to see whichever out of Hunter and Locklear that isn't the starter get up to speed on left tackle as well, as Chop is the backup at all the positions, and will either be starting at RG (hopefully) or at RT. More quality depth other than Porky would be nice along the whole line.

  4. Good point, J-SC.

In any case, I'd like to see Gray pushing a broom. In a best case scenario, Pork will be RG, Locklear or Hunter @ RT.

And Gray would have signed with the Niners, but it's too late for that.
