Ruskell's Web Expands

As if Tim Ruskell hasn't woven his personality and influence throughout the organization in free agency and in preparing for the draft, but his spinnerets have just shot out 100% pure silk and spun it into a brand new Seahawks web site! Click on the picture or the title above to see the site in person!

Gone are the huge masthead and equally as huge (and useless) feature story block. In their place are more appropriate graphics, tons of links to useful information, and an overall emphasis on TEAM, via the imagery, than on individual players.

Beside the standard navigation links at the top of the page, above the fold you'll find links to three stories on possible draft picks, a smaller rotating "hot story" block which still cycles between the two with the #12 flag javascript (which I don't care for) and several items under the heading of Seahawks News.

The left hand navigation area will bring you to the ProShop (Ruskell ever the marketeer) Community Programs (Ruskell's focus on quality of character) and then the standard links for HawksMail, Account Manager, Fan Feedback Message Boards, and Search, which is a little buried, in my opinion.

On the right hand index is a large advertising block, but that's not surprising, as Ruskell is ever the economist as well!

Under the fold is a full and graphically enhanced season schedule, of course, with a direct link to buy tickets. Next to that is the new Pros & Kahn feature, written by the newest addition to the Seahawks.com reporting staff, a Quick Poll, Seahawks Academy Action site, and last but not least, the Sea Gal Auditions!

Oh yea, there's also that little feature of a Draft Day count down clock, which currently is less than 17 hours away!

While the site is still a little clunky, this is exactly the kind of ceremonious redecorating that I was calling for to set a milepost in the road to mark this "regime change" for historical purposes.

I'd still like to see them do something signficant with the uniforms or the stadium to also mark this Seahawks rebirth.

Not a complete overhaul like they did a few years ago, but maybe a stripe, or a patch, or something like that, just to give a visual indicator that while a lot of the names are the same, this is an entirely different Seahawks team that will be taking the field in 2005!

  1. They should have a patch that says, "12 Seahawks Street - Adopt This Seahawk!"

Actually I wouldn't mind a custom Seahawks jersey that said, "12SeahawksStreet.blogspot.com".

    Hmmmm...

  2. Nice review, i think functionality was improved, but overall design is a few steps backwards. I work as a web designer, and i can't imagine this as an improvement. The site apears to have been designed in '98. I really hope they improve the design of the site in the future, cause design wise, the lambs have a better site.

    Great blog btw

  3. Tom - thanks for checking out the article and the blog. I think they wanted to preserve a bit of the old look so the change wouldn't be so revolutionary. Hopefully they'll continue to touch up the design over the next few weeks.

Keep checking out the blog and commenting, and maybe you can become a contributor, if you'd like.
