Fourth-string quarterback Tim Hasselbeck met with Gibbs to discuss his likely departure. Gibbs later indicated that Hasselbeck is free to seek a trade but the coach stopped short of saying Washington would cut Hasselbeck.
"Whatever [Hasselbeck's and agent David Dunn's] desires are, we're just going to talk about it," Gibbs said. "And we'll try to do what's best for the team and them, and we'll be real sensitive to what they want."
Hmmm...the Seahawks still need a veteran backup...they are looking for a better backup...their starting QB's last name is Hasselbeck...their QB wants to be traded...put 1 and 1 together! (no pun intended)
Think it could be a good fit?
the Redskins need a WR...Gibbs likes working with headaches (ex...Moss, Taylor)...how about KRob for T-Hass and some draft pick or something?...long as they dont send us Gardener...im up for anything!
ReplyDeleteHaving two brothers vying for the same position sounds like an accident looking for a place to happen.
ReplyDeleteHow good is Re-Hass anyway? I'd rather have an aging veteran with some quality starts under his belt, rather than a bopsy twin.
Also, given the patience and frugality (word?) of our new front office, no way we're trading for him.
If we want him, Ruskell will wait until the Redskins release him and then pick him up off waivers.
Of course a trade involving K-Rob would remove his salary from our 2005 cap situation, so maybe you're on to something there.
here's a copy of a post I just made on the PI site in response to the proposal that we sign Flutie...
ReplyDeleteYea, I'm all for signing Flutie...but he'll have to wear platform cleats to be able to see over Spencer!!!
No joke though, I want to see us pick up a guy who has had some experience starting and winning games.
But we need to get someone who is similar in style to Matt.
This is why Trent worked so well, and why I don't like guys like Flutie, Shaun King or Jeff Blake. Add Quincy Carter and Kordel Stewart to this list too.
These are guys that run around way too much, and it confuses the O-Line and WRs when you have two QBs with different styles. I think this is mainly why Seneca hasn't broken through yet too.
Hass-like QBs with quality starting experience who are still on the market include:
Jeff George - but he's older than George Bush I!
Vinny Testaverde - after what he's done to us TWICE...NFW!
Rick Mirer - could be poetic justice, but I don't see it happening.
Jim Miller - one year wonder
Charlie Batch - again, limited success as starter
Having brothers as QB's on the same team is a novel personal interest story, but has nothing to do with winning football games. He should ONLY be acquired if he is the BPA. Anything else is pure ticket-sales distraction.
ReplyDeletePlus, it would REALLY piss me off, because that's all the national media would have to say about us. Every national story about the Seahawks would have some reference to the QB brothers. if not a complete story about it. There is so much ignorance about our team and city anyway, it would just stoke my fire every time they brought up everything BUT football.
Besides I believe in monogamy- One piece of Hass is enough!
Two brothers may be more trouble than good, but having said that, Hasselbeck is the best name in my opinion, on this list. And after all ins't the point, to get the best players available to fill needs, I just think young Hasselbeck is the best veteran QB available.
ReplyDeleteOne piece of Hass is enough!
ReplyDeleteBRAVO!
is there really a better option out there?
ReplyDeleteshow me one...and ill agree...
Flutie is closer to death and farther from retirement...he will be in a nursing home soon enough...
Batch was signed by the Steelers...Testy is a piece of crap...Miller, and Mirer will never mount to anything but to fill the 'free agents' list...hell, they're backup free agents...and finally George sucks balls...
I dont really care that they are brothers, but if we're getting a veteran backup...it better not be a 4th stringer...
LOL..Payroll...don't sugar coat it...tell us how you REALLY feel??!!
ReplyDeletelol i gotta defend my territory...
ReplyDeleteif i had it my way, we wouldnt be getting another QB...especially one of those neanderthals
but since Ruskell wants one...the best of the group is Hass #2...dont get me wrong, ill sing a different tune if someone not bound for the nursing home (cough*Flutie*cough) comes along
OK, I finally got to checkout out the younger Hasselbeck's stats. Not much there. Played 6 games in 2003, started 5, threw for 5 TDs, but 7 INTs, completed 95/177 for a total of 1,012 yards for a QB rating of 63.6.
ReplyDeleteNot exactly seasoned veteran.
However, if I'm to stand by my statement of needing a QB that is similar in style to Matt Hass, who could be better?
I'm not sure what their W/L record was over those 6 games or 5 starts, but all we need our backup to do is play a couple series when Matt gets his bell rung, and a few games here and there if he gets dinged up again.
The only problem is how can we bring in someone with this little experience and play them ahead of Seneca, who's been waiting patiently and has paid his dues?
exactly...i want Seneca, personally
ReplyDeleteWell then, maybe you should take him out to dinner first, or at least to a movie!!! :-)
ReplyDeletehar har...
ReplyDeleteWhat's Marquez Tuiasosopo's status?
