You Gotta Like Them Odds!

ESPN Sports Nation has the Vegas odds for all 32 NFL teams for winning their Conference, winning the SuperBowl, and the over/under on total regular season wins.

The Seahawks are 22-to-1 for the SuperBowl, 10-to-1 for winning the NFC, and our over/under is 10 wins. In the NFC, only the Eagles (12) and Falcons (11) have higher over/under figures, and the Vikings are also at 10.

Likewise the Eagles are 2/1 favorites to represent the NFC in the SB, the Falcons are 7.5/1 and the Vikes again are tied with us at 10/1.

The Lambs are 40/1 for the SuperBowl, 16/1 for the Conference and have an O/U of 8.

The House of Cardinals are 50/1 for the SB, 18/1 for the NFC and have an O/U of 8.

The Flamer-9ers are 180/1, 75/1 with an O/U of 4!

No surprise that the Patriots are favored at 6-1 to win SB XL, 3-1 favorites to represent the AFC and have an O/U of 13. That's out of hand!

AFC Teams with better SB odds than the Seahawks include the Colts (7/1), Steelers (15/1), Raiders (16/1), Ravens (18/1), Chiefs (18/1), Jets (20/1), and Chargers tied us at 22/1.

Understanding that these odds are mainly set to entice people to lay down their hard earned cash in bets, and they are due to change dramatically as the betting pool grows and the season draws nearer, I still like being the 3rd seed in the NFC at this point!

  1. This reminds me of that priceless moment on Dumb & Dumber when Jim Carey's charater said, "So I have a chance!!!".

  2. Raiders @ 16/1? Surely, you're joking. I admit they're much better on O, but I don't think they've quite vaulted into the top seven or eight teams.

  3. Ravens, Raiders, Chiefs dont have even close a better odds then us...the Chiefs have a million holes still...the Ravens will go as far as their QB goes...no way in hell Boller leads them to the playoffs, let alone the SB...the only reason they could make the playoffs is because of their retarded division (no offense to the surprising Steelers)...Raiders still have some issues

to put it in a different perspective, compare the teams against the Patriots...who has a better chance to beat them? Seahawks, Chiefs, Raiders, or Ravens? Last year, with injuries, and one week after our depressing loss, we STILL almost came back and beat them...

the Steelers are a question mark..are they a one year wonder? Same with the Chargers...

Above us, I dont mind these teams:

Eagles, Patriots, Jets (they dont turn the ball over much EVER), Falcons, Colts, and Vikings...

I like our chances...obviously I want to say Super Bowl win, but like last year...injuries can derail you

  4. I used to think that preseason odds were not only silly but often wrong, I know longer believe either. WEll maybe the silly part since I do not gamble. But the point is, if Vega says that such and such is the chance of a thing happening, believe you me, they know what they're talking about. We are talking about billions of dollars bet on football every season and Vegas does NOT like to lose money, they do their research they know their stuff, these aren't just numbers pulled out of a hat, and they are NOT biased. It mattters little to them what the press says about a team or about the hype surrounding a team. They are in it for the bottom line, the money.
The reason I say all this is to say that if Vegas is giving us decent odds, then we aren't just kidding ourselves when we say that we have a good team, WE DO! Or vegas would not have set the odds the way they did. I for one am happy to see that what I believed we had (a good team) is in fact what we have.

  5. Understand one thing about Vegas odds and lines. They are established with one goal in mind, which is to get HALF of the people to bet one way, and HALF of the people to bet the other.

That's why an early line on a game might be 10 points, and by game time it's either 6 or 12.

If too much money is being bet on the favorite, they'll up the spread to try to increase the pool on the underdog. Too much money on the dog, then they decrease the spread to increase the pool on the favorite.

So in other words, Vegas odds are not as much to properly determine who is better than whom, as they are to dupe half the people to betting on one team, and half the people on the other.

  6. The reason the Raiders are 16/1 is because their fans are 1) Rabid 2) close enough to drive to Vegas, therefore have input into the odds. The odds are based partly on the book, and partly on the amount of bets created. If only one person wants to bet on a team, the odds get better, the Fade-ers get those odds because so many people bet on them. Basically the book can set Raiders odds anywhere, the worse the better, because they are going to get bets laid no matter what.

IJ, When I go I do the same thing if the odds are good, bet on Hawks, Sonics, and Mariners. Sonics may pay off. And as far as the watered drinks, order doubles and tip the drink girl. Nobody realizes you can order doubles...

  7. Sweet tip...gives a new meaning to the phrase "double-down!"

  8. Correct me if I'm wrong, but these odds are not the Vegas odds, just odds someone running a site called "bodog.com" created. Not to say their wrong, but if I were making odds, it would be hard to put the chiefs on the same level as us. With the Chargers and the Raiders in their division, I don't see them even making the playoffs. Just a hunch by me though.
