Current FA Endeavors

Here's what I have gathered from 'official' sources so far today. None of these are rumors, although there are a lot flying around right now about the supposed signing of Dyson.

1. Andre Dyson (CB - Titans) visited, took a physical and met with Seahawks officials.

2. Anthony Thomas (HB - Bears) will visit today and tomorrow. Not that anyone cares.

3. Bryce Fisher (DE - Rams) Will visit tomorrow and Thursday.

4. Fred McCrary (FB - Falcons) will visit later in the week.

5. Kevin Bentley (LB - Browns) will visit at an unspecified time.

6. Donnie Spragan (LB - Broncos) will visit at an unspecified time.

7. Edgerton Hartwell (LB — Ravens), according to his agent, is planning to meet with Seahawks officials. No date sepecified.

8. Anthony Becht (TE - Jets) is planning to visit.

I deliberately left out comments and info on these guys in an effort to be concise. If you have any information or opinions on them, post it!

  1. 'Sup all. I used to post over at the PI, but this is my first one here. I'm glad you guys are doing this.

I'll preface my first post by stating that I hope there is no meaning to the ordering listed here. Particularly, I don't want to see Anthony Thomas anywhere on the list (I'm getting the impression I'm not alone here).

Now, for a rumor of sorts. I was listening to ESPN Radio on the way to work this morning and they were talking to Art Thiel. I missed the first part so I don't have the full context (maybe someone else can help me here if they heard the whole thing). Anyway, he indicated that the 'Hawks would probably be willing to trade SA for two first-rounders. My first thought was: "Who in their right mind would trade two first-rounders for SA?" Am I alone here? Is there anyone out there who would not jump at this chance (from the 'Hawks perspective)? I don't want to make too much of this and pretend as if there is a standing offer from some team, but, to me, this would be the perfect resolution of the SA saga. Anyone disagree?

  2. This post is copied from the "more bad news" thread. I wasn't sure if that thread would be viewed and this is really a comment on why I think Hartwell would be a great addition.

It seems that everyone has forgotten Tracy White. I thought he was looking like a playmaker before he was injured. I would think that 3 out of Lewis, Brown, Kout and White is not a terrible worst-case scenario (Not sure if anyone other then Kout could play MLB. Lewis is probably the only possibility there.).

A significant upgrade, IMO, would be to put Hartwell in the middle. This would leave them with a good backup at MLB in Kout and a good backup at OLB in White/Lewis. You know at least one of the LB's will be injured, especially given Brown's and White's (relatively short) histories. I think the acquisition of Hartwell would provide a bit of depth to the corps as well as providing an upgrade to the starters. They would then have one backup at MLB and one at OLB that you would feel pretty comfortable with.

  3. I have to say that I jump at getting Alexander if I'm a team like the Cardinals, the Dolphins, the Vikings, etc. If a team thinks that a great RB will take them to the upper echelons of the league, then why not sign Shaun. THeir first round picks would be low in the order anyway. That said, if someone offers, Seattle should take it. They could get a decent back in the draft, and save some money.

I would hate to see Shaun go though.

I also agree with Steel. I've thought long and hard about the two big players that got away (Lucas and Chike) and I think that the FO has a plan. Let's say we get either Dyson or Surtain, and sign Hartwell. We could possibly save money, and get a DE replacement in the draft (Merriman). I'd hate to be a team that overspends. I trust in Ruskell, I trust in Reinfeldt, I trust in Holmgren.

    Go Hawks.

  4. I'll third it. The FO was right in not over-offering for Lucas and Okeafor. I'm all for the FO making a reasonable offer, and sticking to it.

For instance, look at the Patriots in dealing with Lawyer Milloy and Ty Law. They didn't play around with the soap opera of dickering and holdouts. They gave them a choice, take this offer, or seeya later. It seems that approach has been made with Lucas and Okeafor, and I'm in favor of it, because overpaying for replaceable players only hurts the quality of the remainder of the team.

However, I don't see that approach with Alexander. There is still a lot of goofy dickering going on. Right now Shaun says he will NOT sign the tender on the franchise offer. Hopefully this just means he wants to stay a Seahawk, and would prefer a longer contract that the tag.

But as much as I like Shaun, and as much as I think we could use his talent, think he's playing games and is headed for a holdout. If that is the case, I think we should cut our losses and trade him. Wasting team energy on a disraction does not an upper echelon team make.

  5. BTW: The only order to the list is by the apparent seriousness with which the particular free agent is pursuing a visit to Kirkland.

  6. First, It's really good to see mfan posting here, really good, he always brings good takes to the table.
Second, (and you all know that I like and have defended Alexander to the hilt) if we could somehow get two first round picks for him, we would be absolute MORONS not to do that! Also, I completely agree with Bluefoot, that if he is playing games with the FO by not signing the tender sheet, trade him. This team cannot afford any stupid distractions, not from anyone. (that should make Vinny happy) :) Besides, it's not as if there aren't several very good halfbacks coming out this year, there are plenty of options there, (though I really don't like the list of free agents at all). I can tell you from watching plenty of Minnesota Golden Goopher games, that Marion Barber will be an absolute STEAL in the third round where he is projected to go, just to name one. Bottom line is, if he is headed for a holdout, trade him and be done with it, we don't need the headache and he can be replaced easily enough.

  7. Short and sweet, I'll tackle the list.
    1. Dyson- Yes, let's do it, he's not great but not bad and would certainly help.
    2. Thomas- NOT ON YOUR LIFE!
    3. Fisher- had an okay season last year, but we can do better in the draft, I'll pass on him.
    4. McCrary- WHY?
    5. Bentley- (sigh) not doing it for me.
    6. Spragen- see #5. Not sparking my shorts.
    7. Hartwell- Please please please!!
    8. Bect- How do you spell the sound of giving the raspberries? Ptthtt? Pththtttt? Phhhttte? Whatever, you get the point, Wiggins would be MUCH better.

  8. welcome to me and check's side mfan...

    HARTWELL HARTWELL HARTWELL

I say overpay him if we have to...his chances just shot up with KC getting Bell...they were our competition...

Hartwell, Dyson, draft picks...I don't care as long as we get a CB and Hartwell from Free Agency

and also I agree with MFAN...Tracy White has been forgotten...I think if worst comes to worst...we can start weakside, Brown at strong, and HARTWELL HARTWELL HARTWELL at the middle...thats still solid, and White has potential

and I also agree with SteelBlue...our FO is obviously trying to be conservative (funny how that bit us in the ass during the season, caoching-wise)...I think they might sign Dyson tonight to prove to the fans that they have a plan

they passed up on a lot of good players...they have to be up to something...I trust them, just like Bill Bavasi of the Mariners...im giving Ruskell a fair chance...we don't have Howard Lincoln---I mean Whitsitt influencing our FO anymore

Ken Lucas leaving will only hurt if we don't end up with Surtain or Dyson...or both (erm...i can dream)

Okeafor probably got overpaid, and we could do just as good in the draft...same with Fisher
