Apparently Surtain isn't the only player the Hawks are looking at trading for. According to ESPN.com, they've also talked to the Washington Redskins about obtaining WR Rod Gardner.

So far, the asking price for Gardner hasn't been set, but his cap number is relatively low (around 2.0 million). Below are his stats.

What do we think?
Catch first, run second. I'd love to see him in blue, Robinson or not.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see the 'Hawks exploring this!
A few things, first, as Bluefoot said, it's nice to see them exploring this, no matter where it ends. At least they are admitting that they need help in the recieving corps. Second if we could trade Robinson straight accross I would be all for it. Third, Gardner isn't bad, but I can't help but wonder if we couldn't do better elsewhere. For example, although Gardner's salary isn't huge, I wonder if we couldn't get someone like Cedric Wilson even cheaper. Wilson is in my opinion is similar player talent wise to Gardner.
ReplyDeleteAnother area I would love to see the Hawks address, is at TE. I still believe that Stevens is a bust. I also believe that we will lose Mili, which leaves us with Hannam, who isn't horrible and may become a nice TE for us but is probably not the everydown answer here, (of course I could be and hope I am wrong about that, I personally like Hannam and hope he proves me wrong). There is one name out there that I just don't see anyone talking about who had a huge year last season and plays the game the right way. In fact last year I became a big fan of his, because of the way he handled himself and the pressure he was under, Jermaine Wiggins. Wiggins led the Vikes in catches after being slotted as a #3 matbe #2 TE. When Kliensasser couldn't go, the Vikes tried other options and settled on Wiggins when they discovered that he can flat out play. He's got terrific soft hands, loves to make something out of nothing and plays hard, very hard on every down. In my mind he could become a terrific TE for us and at a very reasonable price.
After reading the article, I see that the Redskins are asking for a middle round pick. Funny, we just happen to have gotten an extra fourth round pick recently. I like it, it would basically be trading Difler for Gardner. When you look at it that way, I think it's a good deal.
ReplyDeletemonkey, I can't believe I didn't see that in the article. I'm an idiot! I agree, it's a good deal, at very worst, we get insurance should Robinson have another year of the dropsies.
ReplyDeletePaulie P,take that back! You are certainly NOT an idiot!
ReplyDeleteBTW, if oyu want to you can always do what I do after discovering that my post was incomplete, just edit baby. I must have edited my first Dilfer post five times to include new info I kept discovering. I LOVE to edit, edit edit edit edit. Sorry, got carried away, now I feel like an idiot.
Another trade rumor, this one involving Shaun, is for Jason Taylor from Miami.
ReplyDeleteMan, I'd hate to see Shaun go, he's by far my favorite NFL player.
But if we can get Taylor and a first...
...
It hurts to say it, but I wish you well Shaun.
How about this rumor? I heard that the Hawks are the one NFC team which has reportedly talked to the Saints about DE Howard who recieved the franchise tag. Allarently the Saints want a second round pick for him. If we traded Alexander it would free us up to make this move.
ReplyDeleteI also heard the Alexander to Miami for Taylor. Taylor is outstanding. That move wouldn't hurt my feelings at all.
Im not a big Gardener fan...I think we could do better if we pursued a trade for a WR
ReplyDeletelet Minnesota kill their franchise and get him instead of Plaxico
as for Taylor...I like him, but for Shaun Alexander? if that were to happen...we would have to get something else of solid value in return...the reason being, the draft has too many good DEs which we could get...and still keep Alexander
I wanted Taylor at the beginning of the offseason, but not at the expense of Alexander
ad for Howard...interesting if we don't give up Shaun...he is underrated to some, and overrated to others---I think Howard is underrated
now that Kendrell Bell signed with the Chiefs...we have no competition with Hartwell except Atlanta...we could easily beat them out
NO EXCUSES NOW
BTW, I keep hearing that there are teams looking very hard at Rocky. Texas is one and the Jets are apparently another for certain. If he gets offers we can of course match, I just don't know if we would be better off with him or with another #5 pick.
ReplyDeleteAlso, for those of you who said that I am reading too much into the reasoning behind Okeafor leaving, I really hope you are right, but I am not convinced at all. From the P-I, "Tell you what, Seattle's offer was right there," said Andrew Simms, Okeafor's agent. "Chike went with Arizona for reasons that only Chike can probably explain. But he felt comfortable there and he felt they were heading in the right direction."
And what, the Seahawks aren't heading in the right direction? The more I hear about it the less I like it. Like I said, players don't normally upend their lives and move from a team which made the playoffs the year before, to a team that never makes the playoffs for the same amount of money without good reason. I agree with you guys that Okeafor is an odd duck, but he's still human, and no human likes to move unless they are uncomfortable where they are or otherwise has to. I jst think it's less of a reflection on how much the Cards are an up and coming team (which I admit they are) than it is a reflection on the poor way our team is run. We'll see, I hope I am wrong and you guys are right, that I am reading too much into this.
HARTWELL, HARTWELL, HARTWELL!!!
ReplyDeleteEverybody cheer, HARTWELL, HARTWELL, HARTWELL!!!
The Vikings just signed CB Fred Smoot.
ReplyDeleteTick... tock.
Do we have Dyson on board yet?
Actually between Williams and Smoot, the Vikes just landed two of the best free agents at thier respective positions. Too bad. I hate the Vikings. Wait a tick, this could turn out to be awesome for us.
ReplyDeleteFrom SI rumors, "With rumors flying about Miami cornerback Pat Surtain possibly being dealt to Minnesota, Seattle or Kansas City, a league source said a trade could be completed "sooner rather than later." Minnesota and Seattle are said to be amenable to Surtain's financial terms."
-- Palm Beach Post
Well, that Smoot deal takes Minnesota out of the running, K.C. has just signed Bell, which leaves just...SEATTLE. And according to the "league source" that sooner rather than later means we could be seeing Surtain in a Hawks jersey any day now. Too sweet!
BUBBBBAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletehes so freakin AWESOME man
him and Hartwell would make my year with Beltre, Sexson, and Surtain...even Fortson!
Bubba and Hannam in two TE sets...thats awesome...Bubba would make Hannam better, as defenses will be trying to eliminate him in games...while Hannam could get some good yards
dont poop with me man...Bubba coming to Seattle is a dream that I could barely dream...
Ruskell if you bring Bubba to Seattle, you are ONE SEXY BITCH!!!
I'm lovin' the optimism in the room, I hope that we can be applauding the FO by the end of the week, I'd love to see them pull off a handful of these manuevers.
ReplyDeleteAnd just to be my narcasistic self, I metioned Bubba weeks ago.
I just thought the Bubba thing was wishful thinking, I had no idea we would actually have a shot at him...
ReplyDeletewhat sucks is that the Sonics blew a huge lead against the Rockets...hope the Sonics catch fire like they did in the 1st Q...and kick their ass
for those who like Donnie Spragan...I did some digging...
ReplyDeleteand hes about to be off the market...
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/football/pro/dolphins/
its under the McDougle article...
From the Seattle Times:
ReplyDeleteTrade talk
The recent talk of a possible trade involving Seattle running back Shaun Alexander and Miami cornerback Patrick Surtain is little more than speculation, according to NFL sources.
But another Dolphin was thrown into the rumor mill yesterday. Defensive end Jason Taylor apparently would not welcome a move to outside linebacker if Miami switched to a 3-4 defense, and the Dolphins eventually might be willing to deal him. The Seahawks have an opening at defensive end with the departure of Chike Okeafor on Monday.
No serious trade talks involving Alexander and the Dolphins have taken place.
Alexander was named the Seahawks' franchise player and would make $6.32 million if he signed the one-year tender. But it's clear that he won't sign it anytime soon. Any team that acquires Alexander would want to have a long-term deal with him.
Also from the Times:
ReplyDeleteSeahawks OL Floyd "Pork Chop" Womack has free-agent visits scheduled for Buffalo today and Green Bay tomorrow. The Seahawks are still very involved in negotiations with Womack.
How about this news out of Baltimore:
ReplyDeleteThe Ravens are quietly shopping linebacker Peter Boulware around the league, but GM Ozzie Newsome denied any trade talk.
-- Baltimore Sun
We had both Blades brothers at one time, I would love to have both Boulwares...
