You name the subject -- This is a catch-all thread, sort of a 'flow of consciousness' general Seahawks conversation, reminiscent of the glory days of the PI blogs.
I'll make it a 'sticky' and see what happens.
POST SCRIPT:
This thread is prime-time. I'm bumping it up.
Damn! I was gonna call it! :)
ReplyDeleteOr are you talkin' a can o' beer and a pocket knife? :)
ReplyDeleteHere are some guys I'm interested in and since they cover several positions I thought I'd throw it in this thread.
ReplyDeleteDerrick Burgess DE from Philly
Burress, for obvious reasons(plus it would mess up the announcers having a Burress and a burgess on the same team) :)
Kevin Carter DT because he'd be an upgrade, and his numbers are getting better.
Marques Douglas DE Baltimore, another guy with good numbers that are on the rise. (72 tackles and 5.5 sacks)
Bubba Franks hasn't missed a game.(started 14 games, played in 16, a 10.0 yd avg, lowest avg was 8.0, and 7 TDs, numbers are on the rise.)
Hartwell ILB, for the obvious reasons, he's the best available ILB out there and far better than anyone we could get in the draft.
Wesley Mallard LB NYG, Oregon college Grad that could be a possible low $ backup/prospect.
Surtain again, for obvious reasons(a huge upgrade at CB, and coming off a great season, and had seven ints in '03 and six on '02)
Anyway just some names to kick around, I know several have already been talked about but hey what the hey.
We're a long way from 4/24.
Not a bad list Vinny, although I'll readily admit I don't really know much of anything about Wesley Mallard.
ReplyDeleteA couple of Rams players that the Hawks are apparently interested in with Polley and the DE what's his name, what does anyone really know about these guys? I have only seen them when they played the Hawks because I hate watching the Rams otherwise.
Bryce Fisher, that's his name, couldn't think of it, any impressions guys?
ReplyDeleteHere let me quote my outdated bible.....
ReplyDeleteBryce Fisher (6'3"-272)
STRENGTHS:Has power, athletic ability and tenacity. Is aggresive at the point of attack. Has range and can make plays in space. Has a quick first step. Sets up linemen outside and redirects inside.
WEAKNESSES:Is a better run defender than pass rusher. Must be on the move to be effective.Has a weak lower body;will be ingulfed.
BOTTOM LINE:Fisher has upside but has been used in a rotation. He might not be ready to start at RE.
So maybe not the best guy to get, then again....
TOMMY POLLEY (6'3"-240)
STRENGTHS:Has quickness and speed. Has sideline to sideline skills with closing speed to track down plays from behind(not in the last game against us). Could be a playmaker if turned loose(Ray would turn him all kinds of loose).
WEAKNESSES:Needs to be in space to properly use his athleticism. Has durability issues. Is inconsistant, especially against the run. Is a finesse LB.
BOTTOM LINE:Polley is best when turned loose upfield, but he takes himself out of plays by getting too far upfield. He also must improve his consistancy and leverage at the point of attack.
Sounds like a guy who could foot the bill if he spent time working on his coverage and reaction skills. Brown's one of the best out there at the pass rush and reading the QB.
I just heard that Dilfer has been traded, I'll see if I can find out more.
ReplyDeleteThank you Vinny!
ReplyDeleteI realize that these are projections going into last season but they actually are very accurate.
ReplyDeleteFor instance in watching the playoff game the other night I saw Polley get bunched up on run plays and he was taken out of several plays by misreading the play. But he's a lot like Chad in that he's all over the field and if the ball's there he's not too far away.
Vinny, on another thread you asked about Adam Ant, No, I don't think the Hawks have moch interest in a one year wonder like Adam, but I have heard rumors about Atom Ant, you know, "up and at em Atom Ant", of Hannah Barberra fame.
ReplyDeleteWord on Atom Ant is that although he is undersized he is extremely powerful and has a tremendous work ethic. He flies accross the field sideline to sideline (literally) and people say that because of his diminutive size, he's very difficult to block.
He even comes with his own helmet, although there are worries that his antenae sticking out from the top may lead to an injury.
Also sometimes tends to be out of position as he is constantly rushing off to save innocent victims in distress, though in my opinion his superspeed usually makes up for it.
My biggest concern is whether his boy scout personality might rub others the wrong way in the clubhouse.
Screw Atom Ant. My 1981 Scouting guide (which is still pretty accurate) says he is a *gasp* glory hound that takes downs off.

BUBBBBBBBBBBAAAAAA
I swear Bubba Franks is the coolest player...I always pick him on a fantasy draft on games...or trade for him in a regular franchise...Vinny, you're gonna make me giddy about him coming here, which sucks because the chances of them even thinking about it are slim to none
im glad there is another Bubba fan out there...normally I hate the name Bubba...but he just makes it sound cool...hes a slower Plaxico Burress, and obviously at TE...
Bluefoot you need to stop, seriously! I'm gonna end up with a hernia from laughter!
ReplyDeleteDude, you oughta get an award of somekind for the first internet prank pulled from this site. I know you didn't do it intentionally, but that whole Napolean thing was awesome, the reaction from people who didn't get that it was a joke was one of the single funniest things I can ever remember. THAT WAS AWESOME! And perhaps the coolest part was the free advertising for this site. That little stunt may have just increased readership here, very nice.
BTW, not to toot my own horn...ok ia am tooting my own horn TOOT TOOT! I broke that tidbit about about Dilfers trade hours before just about any other site. (Sound of back being patted). I also predicted way back to my first posting of this deal that it would get done. (Sound of back being patted again). As Elvis said, "thank you, thank you very much." (said in a voice impersonation of Elvis).
ReplyDeleteAtom Ant isn't a glory hound he's just a do gooder! C'mon Bluefoot, imagine a Atomic powered linebacker the size of an ant, who can fly on a blitz. He would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteI thought about Mighty Mouse, but he's got too many off field distractions with that girl mouse he's always rushing off to save.
Underdog on the other hand, has heart, and would fit right in with these Seahawks as an underdog.
Ya, but he's got a great theme song. Here I come to save the day!
ReplyDeleteIf you were a dog you would too!
ReplyDeleteNot my idea originally but it seemed to make a little sense. I heard a trade idea that goes something like this. Since we just got a fourth round pick for Dilfer, we now could go get Najeh Davenport, a restricted free agent whose compensation would be, you guessed it, a fourth round pick. We'd have to restructure and backload his contract a little but it's very doable. Then we trade Alexander and a pick (probably third) to the Dolphins for Surtain and their first. Or just Alex for Surtain and thier second or third or something like that. This deal makes a little sense to me, Davenport is familiar with the system and has good hands and blocking skills, also is a good short yardage guy, (all the things Vinny likes).
ReplyDeleteRrricking your rrrenis rrreally rrreels rrrood!!!
ReplyDeleteRrrou're rrrust rrrealous.
This is funny -- look what signing Napoleon has done for this site:
ReplyDeleteLink to stats
So signing Napoleon worked for us well, he may not be strong or fast or smart, but he puts fannies in the seats.
ReplyDeleteJob well done Bluefoot!
Looking forward to tonights big Sonics Suns game. I am really quite excited about the Sonics this year, I have been following closely all year and really like what I see, they are playing true TEAM basketball. Now hopefully we can see that same mentality spread to the Seahawks. TEAM must come first, now that Simmons has been cut maybe some of the problem children will smell their demise in the wind and straighten their act out.
ReplyDeleteBTW, according to the Trib, The tade for Dilfer could change a little, "(The pick’s position could change once the NFL issues compensatory choices.)" Trib
ReplyDeleteSo it may end up being an earlier pick in the fourth yet, right now it's the 25th.
Leave for a weekend at your own risk! This site is almost TOO active, it's tough to keep up!
ReplyDeleteI know, this site has become the place to visit, mainly because of the Napoleon Dynamite thread. I still laugh at that one, it was beautiful the amount of activity it gereated.
ReplyDeleteMonkey, I just read your thread about Dilfer, and thought I'd respond here instead, since you seem to have written it off as a lost thread. I loved it. I think that we will miss Dilf in the lockerroom more than we'll miss any player we lose on the field. I was never a fan of Dilfer's, and was upset when he came to Seattle. I always thought he was an average quarterback at best, and wouldn't improve our team at all. I was incredibly wrong. He has done amazing things as far as attitude and atmosphere. He's another player I'd love to have return to the team after retirement as a coach. Until then, he will be missed.
ReplyDeleteThe Napoleon thread did generate some fuss when it was posted, bu the actual content you guys have been posting here recently has given this site some staying power.
ReplyDeleteTo explain, when I posted the Napoleon thread we got over 600 unique visitors that day. Our previous average stayed around 50-70 per day. But the vast bulk of the entry pages were directly tied to that thread. They averaged visits of 3.3 different page views and then left. Definitely a flash in the pan, because they pretty much took a peek and went back to their previous habits.
Today is a different story. After having a slower day yesterday, we already have over 300 unique visitors. The interesting thing about this is that they are not coming back to the Napoleon page. They are landing on the main blog address first.
I checked back on the reffering pages, and they are coming other boards in Seattle, Cleveland and other places that are impressed with the cutting edge and thoughtful info on Dilfer.
For example: LINKI think you were underestimating the reaction to the Dilfer phone call post. So far, it's a hit.
I think what's happening now is that we are providing a great combination attack of up-to-the-minute information, insightful commentary, and occasional hypeworthy funny stuff.
Bottom line is, you guys rule! Keep going with your gut. If you like it, post it. Someone else will appreciate it. Not everyone, but it at least keeps the conversation entertaining and gives them something to add.
BTW: If you know of someone who wants to be and qualifies to be a contributor (not just a commentor) I will need their email address to set them up. Don't worry, I won't give ou the privilege lightly -- after all, the contributors steer the ship.
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!! I can't wait for the regular season!
Bluefoot Paulie P, thanks for straightening me out guys, I thought I'd laid an egg on the Dilfer post, guess that lookin at the link you provided Bluefoot I buried the thing too early. It was getting reaction just not the way I expected. Whew! I thought I had posted something everyone had already seen and noone cared about, glad I was wrong. I try to post things I think people will care about, I want to see this site take off like a rocket. I haven't had this much fun on the web since well...ever. Not to build up anyone's ego, but honestly, I have visited many different sites, and ours is as good as any and a helluva lot better than most. I've said it before and I'll say it again BLuefoot, your little idea to have the fans write the threads was brilliant. Each of the contributers here has made this site a blast.
ReplyDeleteI guess next time I won't be so quick to assume failure, I just was worried I was posting lame crap no one cared about and felt bad about it. I really don't want to do that.
Blue, I also loved it, a great tribute to the guy that epitimizes "TEAM PLAYER".
ReplyDeleteI'll miss the loving looks between He and Matt.
There are rumors flying hot and heavy, that Dyson has signed with the Seahawks. They are unsubstantiated right now, but they are flying. It appears we may have something nice to report on tommorow.
ReplyDeleteI've heard the same rumors. WHile I hopwe they are true, the fact that the are rumors that he "HAS signed", and we heven't yet heard anything leads me to believe they are either unfounded or exaggerated.
ReplyDeleteBut my eye is out...
Ok, it's back in.
ReplyDeleteKendrell Bell signed with the Chiefs. I was hoping we'd sign Hartwell before this happened, but as long as we get Ed signed up, that's all that matters.
