Breaking News: Seahawks Release Simmons and Damien Robinson

Linebacker Anthony Simmons, a former first-round draft choice, and safety Damien Robinson were released by the Seahawks today.
The release of Simmons, which was reported in the P-I Wednesday, frees $750,000 under the team's $85.5 million salary cap. But the move had more to do with Simmons' recent history of injuries and an attitude that led to run-ins with assistant coaches.
In the past three seasons, Simmons has missed almost as many games (21) as he has played in (27), and the team's first-round draft choice from 1998 is coming off wrist surgery that forced him to miss the final seven games last season and is expected to sideline him until training camp opens in late July.
Simmons, who signed a five-year, $23.75 million contract two years ago, was scheduled to count $5.25 million against the salary cap this season -- including a $3.25 million base salary and a $500,000 roster bonus he was due Monday. The club saves only $750,000 against the cap because the remaining $4.5 million from his $7.5 million signing bonus is accelerated into this year.
Robinson was signed in free agency two years ago, but spent last season on injured reserve. His release saves the club $1 million.

its official folks...now what do we do?

  1. Sign Edgerton Hartwell, Trade a 2nd round pick for Surtain, Trade Dilfer for a scrub DE to back up Cochran,

and meet me a the Tacoma Narrows to jump off and see who hits first.

  2. One thing, SHO, is that shaking Simmons this year makes room for Hutch next year.

    How about Bubba?

  4. Is Franks still in the market? If he can catch Brett's passes he can catch Matt's.

  5. Bubba Franks is easily my favorite TE...very big target...

but he has been transitioned by the Packers...

  6. Damn didn't get the memeo. Sorry, we could still go after him, it could be worth it, he knows the system and he'd be an improvement over our best TE.

    Just a thought.

  7. man Vinny, if we ever snatched him up in his prime I would freak...he is probably my favorite player outside the Seahawks

give or take Andre Johnson, Anthony Simmons (now), and LeCharles Bentley (hes a chef for goodness sake...chef LeCharles...man im naming my dog that)

nah, come to think of it, I like Bubba more...but I doubt the Seahawks would even inquire about him

  8. I'm with ya Sho, a hi-rev tweener would fit the bill nicely now that we lost Anthony. And especially if we lose Chike too.
