According to the Trib, "The future of Anthony Simmons could remain unresolved until the weekend. The Seahawks are expected to pursue trade options in the days before Simmons is to receive a $500,000 bonus. The bonus is due Monday, setting a timetable for the Seattle linebacker’s expected departure. A change of scenery might benefit both parties given Simmons’ history of injuries and clashes with coaches. "
Perhaps there are trade possibilities there? It seems doubtful to me though, considering the fact that the Hawks showed their hand already. The Seahawks apparently aren't very good poker players, if you want to get a trade done, you don't announce beforehand that you are going to cut the player anyway.
Maybe they'll be a little smarter with Damien Robinson, who is also due a bonus and will also likely be cut. If they keep their big mouths shut, maybe they can get a pick for Robinson.
ReplyDeleteIsn't there a significant penalty for trading vs cutting a player? For some reason I think it costs us alot more money to trade than to cut, not just in the new players salary, but related to the old player.
ReplyDeleteI still say it could be a contract negotiating ploy. And we could wind up with Simmons anyway.
ReplyDeletemunch, I agree with the Simmons release, especially after finding out that he had problems with the coaches. So to answer your' question...Yse I'd go for a team player, I just hope that that player's out there.
