It's also time now to watch over the Hawks signings, and the players that the Hawks let get away.
Unfortunately, we have to start on a sad note.
Ken Lucas just signed a 6 yr $36 million deal including a $13 million signing bonus with the Carolina Panthers.
*sigh*
I just heard that on ESPN Radio.
ReplyDelete*double sigh*
But you know what? I'm glad we didn't try to beat that offer. It tops Wistrom's for team risk.
For $6 mil a year, we could keep Richard there and spend the money on a fierce pass rusher and be better for it.
With the contact rules being enforced the way they are now, there is only so much you can do as a CB. If you don't have a pass rush, you'll get eaten alive even if you're all pro.
Time for one deflated, half-a$$es
GO SEAHAWKS!!!
The Prez better have something up his sleeve.
BTW: Did you see where Jeremiah Trotter was supposed to come visit us next week?
Bob Whitsitt is still a jackass for not giving him a new contract in the middle of last season, though. He should have seen this coming when the big three were due, too.
ReplyDeletenoooooo
ReplyDeleteI saw an email to me saying Lucas is visiting the Panthers, and they want to sign him...I clicked on it...started reading, n saw at the bottom right where the newest headlines were...and Lucas was on there...
you know what though...the one thing that keeps me from being hurt by this one, is the fact that he went to my second favorite team...so if ANYONE got him, imglad it was Carolina
what now? do we go after Smoot, Rolle, or another corner?
Richard did well when Lucas was out with a bruised lung. I think he's got a lot of potential.
ReplyDeleteBut with the receivers tandems we have in Arizona and St. Loser, he'll have to.
I wounder if the FO is still thinking about cutting B. Taylor>
Trouble is, in some games Lucas caught more balls than Koren did. But we still have K-drop.
ReplyDeletePlease God No. Now that Lucas is gone, we have to keep Taylor.
ReplyDeletehttp://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/3436332
ReplyDeletethey let Lucas go because they view Bobby Taylor as their #1 corner???!?!?!?! please tell me this is not true
he has lost a step, hes better covering slot receivers at 3rd in the depth chart...I still think we need someone else, Ruskell is off to a bad start
surely they aren't comparing Taylor with Trufant...or Taylor with Smoot, Rolle, Baxter, and Lucas
Not to pick on you Vinny, but are you still "not worried at all", do you still think "everything will work out"?
ReplyDeleteWe are now watching the effects of having a dysfunctional FO so late into the game. We are seeing player after player that could really help us go elsewhere while our own free agents are skipping town. It's hard enough to overcome the "Seattle is the end of the world" idea the so many players seem to have, without being thought of as a dysfunctional team that doesn't take care of their players or have a commitment to winning. THIS is why I was posting that the sky is falling so often earlier, because I knew that we would have a horrible offseason if we didn't get the FO straightened out. I'll admit that signing Jones and Hass were nice moves, as was franchising Alex, but watching Lucas and probably Okeafor leave without any kind of a backup plan is more than just frustrating. This is a team taking a big step backwards, unless they get busy RIGHT NOW. Now instead of having the luxury of drafting best player available they MUST draft for need at DE, LB, and at CB. As if we didn't have enough problems defensively.
BTW, I agree with all of you guys that Bobby Taylor is not as good as Lucas, and I agree that he's probably lost a step (though we don't really know that for certain because he was hurt last year) but if you guys remember, when we signed Taylor, it was assumed that he would start in front of Lucas because until last season Lucas had done nothing to show that he would ever become a good corner and Taylor had more than proved himself in Philadelphia. Though I agree with all of you guys that this sucks smelly cheese, maybe the FO knows something about Taylor that we don't, after all he was hurt last season and so we didn't really get to see what he can do. If he can come back healthy and at the level he was at in Philly, he would actually be better than Lucas, even better than Lucas was last season. Taylor was at one time anyway, a top notch corner with both size and speed. He truly was a shutdown corner, maybe he will be again and all our worrying will be for nothing.
Besides, Carolina overpaid for Lucas, considering he has had only one good season.
He DEFINITELY is overpaid now. While it's a shame that his contact wasn't redone sometime last year, that kind of money is better spent on a pass rusher.
ReplyDeleteIf we can get THAT done.
I only have two problems with Trotter, one; he is really trying to capitalize on a half of a good season, he flopped badly away from Phila. the first time around then really only started half of last season. Two, I can absolutely positively guarantee, that he will be looking for a BIG BIG payday, after losing out in Washington. Come to think of it, I have three problems, my third is that we now have a bigger need at OLB then we do in the middle. We still have Niko who looked very good in a half of a season, but we no longer have LBers at the outside we can really count on at all. Simmons is gone, Brown is getting old and is hurt all the time, White and Lewis are even less proven than Niko is and Kascevenski just isn't the answer. I would actually rather pass on Trotter and go after an outside LBer, let's see what Niko can do over a full season and get some veteran talent outside.
ReplyDeleteI'm drooling over trotter, but one thing bugs me-- What the heck happened to him in Washington? When he went out of Philly the first time and signed as a FA with them, he was supposed to rule the world with Arrington, Bruce Smith, Springs, Deion, etc.
ReplyDeleteBut he absolutely stunk. Millions of Redskins dollars in the toilet. They cut him and he went back to Philly fot the league minimum. Then he proceeds to set the world on fire again, and helps them to the Big Show.
All I'm saying is, BUYER BEWARE. I'd like to know more first before I stop drinking Jack Daniels and start with the kool-aid.
You know, I just thought of a fourth reason not to sign Trotter, he has very bad knees.
ReplyDeleteNope, the more I think about it, the more I think this would be a mistake for the Hawks, He'll want way too much money, he's only played well in stretches and only in Philly, he has bad knees, and as of right now, we need outside linebackers a whole lot more. Bad move as far as I'm concerned.
I still don't understand why we didn't just resign Godfrey last season, this whole MLB problem wouldn't be one, they could have groomed Niko for the role instead of throwing him to the dogs the way they did last year. Come to think of it, when is the last time the Hawks made a good move? Wistrom is a good player but we VASTLY overpaid for him, Godfrey was nice but we let him go right away after only getting a half season out of him due to injuries, Bobby Taylor, same story, we get him and he gets injured right away, I can't remember the last time we did something right in free agency.
I'd rather get Hartwell than Trotter, he's younger, faster, will probably cost less and fills a more immediate need.
ReplyDeleteHARTWELL HARTWELL HARTWELL
monkey, I don't think i've ever disagreed with you...
ReplyDeleteI want Hartwell more then anyone right now...even over Plaxico, Kendrell Bell, and a CB
imagine the intensity he would bring...playing with Ray Lewis, you know that intensity rubbed off on him...
well you know what they say, great minds think alike.
ReplyDeleteironic Monkey, I used the same phrase to you in a different thread a few days ago
ReplyDeleteI said 'I don't know if thats a compliment to you being compared to me, or an insult to me being compared to a monkey'...or something like that lol
Glad to see (almost) everyone stayed calm through the first bad news of the season.
ReplyDeleteThis is from SI.com, and only adds more concern for me in the Hawks wanting Trotter.
ReplyDelete"One reason the Eagles didn't come up with the kind of financial commitment Jeremiah Trotter wanted before free agency began was concern about the outlook for Trotter's knees. If, after an exam, the Chiefs have the same concerns, they are unlikely to dramatically surpass the Eagles' offer, and the market for the middle linebacker will be established. But if the Chiefs think Trotter's knees look good, they and other possible suitors probably will be willing to pay significantly more than the Eagles."
-- Philadelphia Daily News
No thanks on Trotter, if the Eagles are concerned then we definitely ought to be. HARTWELL HARTWELL HARTWELL
By the way thanks for singleing me out monkey, that makes it easier for me to respond to some of your less inteligent posts. The ones I used to let slide.
ReplyDeleteI'd point some out but instead I'll just wait for the next one. :-)
And monkey, a couple other things I'd like to respond to, first of all do you think we should have matched the Lucas $?
ReplyDeleteIf Oke gets the same kind of offer do we match it for a 'tweener'? As some of you have refere to him.
And again you must ahve some sort of inside source that knows that the FO have no back up plan. Wow, then we should just let 'you' post all the remarks here and we'll just sit back and soak up all the info.
You still haven't learned from a week ago huh.
Gee Vinny, I guess I came across as a jerk huh? I was actually trying to literally ask you if you still felt that way because I really wanted to know, that's why I opened with "not to pick on you VInny". I really was asking if you're still not worried if you still think everything will work out. But rereading my post, I realize I came across like a jerk off, sorry Vinny, wasn't my intention. I really wanted to know if you're still not worried because I am. I really wasn't trying to slam you, just post my concerns, I obviously didn't do a good job of it though, it came across as offensive, sorry Vinny.
ReplyDeleteAlthough you'll have a long time waiting to respond to some of my less intelligent posts. ;)
From the Trib:"The Seahawks spoke Thursday with the Miami Dolphins about possibly acquiring cornerback Patrick Surtain. Miami’s asking price is reportedly a second-round pick."
ReplyDeleteAlso:
"Ty Law (New England), Samari Rolle (Tennessee), Gary Baxter (Jacksonville) and Fred Smoot (Washington) are without contracts.
"The Seahawks have also shown interest in lesser-known prospect Renaldo Hill (Arizona)."
Are you kidding? A second round pick for a great shutdown corner like Surtan? DONE! DOUBLE DONE! I'd make that move yesterday!
ReplyDeleteI actually kind of like the idea of Renaldo Hill, young and talented needs seasoning but has goood upside and would come cheap most likely. That could be the best value of the options mentioned, although I just LOVE Surtan.
ummm...that was supposed to be Surtain, with an I.
ReplyDeleteThis deserves a new thread. See you at the top.
ReplyDeleteSorry about teh miscommunication and the defensive response, it's hard to read a persons menaing when reading the responses.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree 100% on Surtain, he'd be worth a second round pick for sure.
