According to several sources, the Cleveland Browns are pursuing a trade that could make Seattle’s Trent Dilfer their starting quarterback.
With Seneca Wallace looking so darn good in last years pre-season games, I would think any deal involving Dilfer which could land us either picks or defensive players is a no brainer. As much as I like Dilfer, who is truly a class act and a great human being, with Seneca here, I just think you gotta get this done.
I think Dilfer has real trade value, considering the team who wants him, and the ties he has with that teams FO. Also remember that the Browns released Garcia which makes them a bit desperate to find someone reliable, and Dilfer ain't nothin' if he ain't reliable. I see a lot of potential here, it could turn out to be our best offseason move if we make this deal. You know that Dilfer will be sad about leaving but ultimately he want's another shot at starting. He's 33 yrs. old and so only really has one shot left at being a starter, for the sake of everyone involved, I just think this move makes sense. It would benefit both teams greatly.
ReplyDeleteI'll miss Dilfer. I never thought I'd say that, since I hated him in Baltimore, but I will.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, he is not suited to being a backup. He is a good QB, but he hasn't come in well off the bench (Dallas game is the best example of this) I love Seneca, and even though it gets me laughed at, I truly think that he's a poor man's Michael Vick.
But I'll miss Dilfer off the field horribly.
So would Matt Paulie, the two families are very very close.
ReplyDeleteI'd miss Dill too, he's such a good team influence.
ReplyDeleteBut on the other hand, I'd be happy for him to see him with a starting job this late in his career.
I also agree that moving Seneca up could be a good thing.
What on earth can we get for him, though?
So where did you hear this, monkey? I dont' doubt you, I'm just interested in chasing it.
A mobile back-up like Garcia would be a good idea.
ReplyDeleteAssuming he's not gay. ;)
I hate Jeff Garcia...2nd least favorite QB, behind Bulger (what kind of name is that???)
ReplyDeletetrading Dilfer for something halfway decent could be a good move...it might hurt Matt Hasselbeck's wife's feelings, as she and him are close to the Dilfer family
im not sure how to word this, but dilfer has no kids (if you don't know the story, his child died)...so it wouldn't be much of a strain to play elsewhere
Bluefoot,
ReplyDeleteI have heard it from several sources but the easiest way to follow it may be through the Trib. They posted an entire story on this possible trade.
I really haven't heard anything about what the Browns may be offering, it's still too early but I really think this is more than just a rumor, I think it is a serious deal that will get hammered out in the next week or so.
Seneca is more than ready to be a number two in my opinion, but of course that's just an opinion. He has the mobility obviously, but last saeson he also showed the smarts and the arm strength. I agree completely with Paulie P, he is a poor mans Vick
monkey nailed it on the head about Seneca...his arm strength really improved, and he is a tad smarter...I still have problems with him dropping back a little too far after a hike
ReplyDeletebut hes definitely a fine backup...and a poor man's Vick
Archon, Let's hope that we fix the O-line problem, we can't afford to have Matt under as much pressure as he was last season.
