Free Agency Period Starts Tonight

There is bound to be a lot of news today. The free agency period starts at midnight on the East coast, or 9pm PST. We have a pantload of due FA's to sign today, including Lucas, Okeafor, Tobeck, Gray, Womack, Mili, Bannister, Huff, Rouen, and Walter.

If any of you get a scoop, post it!

  1. I got an email that had the Seahawks setting their sites on Ken Lucas...look for something to happen within the next 12-24 hours...he might not sign, but they are going HARD after him

Lucas also stated that he wants to stay in Seattle, but is also curious about testing free agency

I think he has the highest chance of returning next year of any remaining free agents

the article also mentioned us maybe going after Kendrell Bell or Ty Law (if Lucas leaves)

I want Bell...cut Brown and sign Bell

  2. Who do you replace Brown with? Bell will be a great addition for the middle but we're still losing our number one pass rushing LB if we let Brown go.

  3. he really isn't our leading pass rusher if he is always injured

his injuries are of the nagging variety...

I just don't see how losing Brown will hurt us if he is always injured anyways...besides, we'd get a nice chunk of money to spend out of it

  4. He's really not that injury prone. I think a lot of it is Ray's style of defense(letting the players play to the ball, and fly around the field), after all it's not like it's tendons or ligaments, he's breaking bones.

And to correct your' misconception of his sturdiness......
    Games missed....
'93-0,94-0,95-6,96-2,97-1,98-0,99-1,00-0,01-0,02-8,03-2,04-9, yes he's missed a lot of games the last three years but is it just a coincidence that it cooincides with the arrival of Rhodes football?

And to straighten out another arguement...When did our pass rush flourish? When Chad wa in the game. As I said, who do you fill those shoe with? His best attribute is his ability to read the offense and know what the QB is going to do. He proved that by shutting down Vick while playing on a recently pinned broken leg.

  5. And A, I said leading pass rushing LB, and even without that distinction, I still think he's the best pass rusher on the team.

  6. Did you ever consider Brown and Simmons are getting hurt trying to cover the less talented and seasoned players on the D? How many 1st, 2nd and 3rd year players did we have on the defensive line the last two or three years? Not to mention at the LB positions.

  7. I really don't think they are getting hurt trying to cover for anyone. These guys down their own job all-out, regardless of how their teammates are playing.

If we let Simmons go, it will not affect the pass rush. He's more of a pursuit/coverage LB, and not much of a blitzer. He had one year with a few sacks, but it's really not his forte.

If we let Brown go, there are a lot of draftees that could take his spot in the pass rush.

The pass rush is the easiest place for a rookie to make an impact. He doesn't need to have a bunch of reads memorized. All he needs for a playbook is a picture of the quarterback they'll be facing that week.

In other words, Brown's pass rush can be replaced immediately.

Another thing: Brown hasn't been injury prone his whole career. But his body is getting old and breaking down.

This really sucks. I love Chad Brown and everything he's done for this team, play in and play out.

  8. I was just thinking that with us playing against some of the best Lines in football we should stick with experience.

We also face some pretty good HBs again so I'd rather have someone with some NFL game speed under they're belts.(our young guys got burned a lot this year and a lot of it was bad reads and reactions)

If we could get in at the top of the LB and or DE picks I'd say maybe, but other than that I can't see dumping some of our most experienced players on the oft chance they get hurt again.

  9. Is Tez willing? Sign him up! Beyond that, Chad needs to restructure big time. He and Simmons would both be welcome on the team, in my opinion, but need to take a rather large cut.
