This one's for you Vinny, "Tue Mar 1 2005 - The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports Robinson recently completed a 30-day rehab program for alcohol abusers. Robinson had 1,240 receiving yards in 2002, but he combined for just 1,391 the past two seasons. Robinson did miss six games in 2004 because of various suspensions. "
This guy's got more issues than any Seahawk I can remember. Rehab is good, I just wonder if it will stick. If I were a betting man I'd say no, guys like this never get their heads together, they just cycle through life, as if it were a roller coaster ride, up and down, up and down. He's been nothing but a headache so far, I have serious doubts that will ever change, but then rehab is a very good start.
Interesting comment monkey. I was one of 'Those guys' when I was younger,(older than him). however I got a job with a company that had a zero tolerance job, so I quit MJ, and stayed off of it.
ReplyDeleteIf I can do it so can he. Not everyone that drinks or puffs a little grass is a waste case. And people that lump them all together are just plain ignorant, and monkey I know your' not ignorant so where's the negativity come from?
While I admit that he has a problem, if Mike decides to keep him then I'll have faith in Mike's judgement. He's not going to risk his reputation and his chances somewhere else by sticking with a guy that he doesn't have faith in.
Vinny, what are you smokin'?
ReplyDeleteJ/K
The problem is, the NFL doesn;t have a zero tolerance policy. It has a tolerance policy.
If you or I fail a UA we're done. No second chances. Pro players get second chances. I think this actually make is HARDER to overcome.
He pounded the hash, got caught, and he's still on the team. I hope he's learned something besides what that lesson taught him.
I personally think that the drugs/alcohol is not causing him to drop passes...I just don't think he is taking his job seriously (not giving his all), or a lack of focus...this is all stemmed from immaturity, the famous word we use to describe out team...although some would say that can't be an excuse, it is for Koren Robinson...afterall this is a *gasp* job, and he is now in the *gasp* real world...I don't think he can handle it...he seems to play like its a football game at a family barbecue
ReplyDeletehe expects everyone to forgive him, and give him second chances because he is still stuck in his dependant childhood days...he also complained about the media focusing on his drops, just like a kid gets mad when his father lectures him...I bet when the reporters left the lockerroom, he probably muttered a bunch of 'stupid reporters telling me what to do, them dumb idiots' phrases
I do think he still has potential to be a great receiver, and if I chose to trade him or keep him, id keep him unless the trade upgrades us at a very necessary need...just a matter of him gaining determination, focus, and to treat this as a job rather then playtime
its like when a kid tries to live with his parents for an extra 4 years...they need to push him out through tough love...something Koren needs to experience---a push...this is not a right, its a privaledge
forgive me if I typed too much...just giving my 100% insight on K Rob...
ADP, do you know anything about ADD, ADHD, or bipolr disorders?
ReplyDeleteIf not, look it up. The rumor is that he suffers from one of these and if so then it has nothing to do with immaturity or lack of focus.
And *gasp* some people do not understand what problems others may have. But because they have nomal thoughts and normal mental functions they think that everyone is just like them, guess what *gasp*, it isn't like that in the real word.
I guess we'll know when Mike and the FO figure out what to do with him. I imagine if they keep him that he's not as fargone as some here would lead us to beleive.
hey no need with the *gasps*, man...I can read your points without the sarcasm
ReplyDeletemy 2nd best friend has ADHD, and ironically, he plays WR...and he catches perfectly fine, regardless of his ridiculously short attention span...hes always over my house since he plays football on my team, so I know how bad his disorder can be (ie. not paying attention when setting down with a drink, leading to a spill...little things, big things, so forth)
I never mentioned anything about knowing what Koren is going through, as im just stating my opinion, just like you...the fact remains, regardless of his problems, even if he had no legs...he is still not helping the team like he could of...
and if ADHD or whatever played such a role in his WR focus, then how come he drafted as high as he did?...how come he had a breakout season?...he already has shown that he is capable of playing well...its very possible a player can play well, lose some focus and suffer from it...but the ADHD or ADD to all of a sudden impact his WR is a bit unrealistic, considering he was playing fine for a good 3 years (college and NFL)...even if it really is affecting him...he is still hurting the team, having sympathy for him is like not letting go of an old veteran who is making the team suffer...but the fans were still attached to him...
if it hurts the team, there shouldn't be 4 or 5 chances...
The reason I posted this is to say that while I don't believe the leopard will ever change his spots, at least I have to give him credit for going through a rehab program. That really is a good start. Again Vinny, I wasn't picking on you, or trying to get you pissed, I just thought you would find this interesting as you have defended him so earnestly in the past.
ReplyDelete"Not everyone that drinks or puffs a little grass is a waste case."
That may be true, but to be honest, I used to not only smoke weed, but sell the crap as well for years. I have literally known hundreds of pot users, and to be honest, every single one of them, in fact every pot user I have ever known in my entire life was and is a "waste case". Until you get off the stuff, in my book you are a waste case, it's the nature of the drug. I'm not talking about the guy who has tried it a few times, or even necessarily uses it on special occasions, I am talking about the guys who rarely go more than one or two days without getting high, they ARE all waste cases Vinny. Firstly, they are breaking the law, secondly (and I know this for fact having been a hard core user for years) the drug causes the user to care less and less about things they really ought to be caring about, this isn't conjecture it's been proven over and over in studies VInny. THese users are wasting their time, energy, money all on an illegal activity jeopardizing their future all for a high. Now you tell me that's not a waste case.I have known pot users who were pregnant mothers, or mothers who smoked in front of and around their kids. I have known users who were already in prison for buying or selling the crap and started using right away again when they got back out. I have known users who robbed cheated and otherwise stole often from their friends in order to obtain the drug. So please don't lecture me on drug use Vinny, on that one you got nothin on me. Drug users ARE a waste, period end of story. Can they be salvaged? Hell ya, I haven't used any illegal drugs in over 11 years and I am making myself into a valuable productive member of society, but until the user stops using, he or she is a waste case in my book and in the eyes of the law.
If Koren cleans up truly, I would have no problem whatsoever with keeping him on this team, it's just that right now he is HURTING this team and until that stops, keeping him around is only enabling him. I for one, hate to see my favorite team coddling and enabling a user. This is why I posted the thread in the first place, because I am acknowledging that K Rob took the first step and I am proud of him for that. I just hope it sticks, but I wouldn't lay money on it, his track record sucks.
One last thing, whether he has a disease or not, (it is after all an unsubstantiated rumor) no one is forcing him to use. He still has free will of choice. Also, using drugs causes similar symptoms as those found in people who are ADD and ADHD, so how can one tell what is the disease and what is the drug use? A disability is NEVER an excuse for drug use. Immaturity is the only reason for it.
I have to say I agree with all of you guys. Koren needs help, but most of all he needs to help himself.
ReplyDeleteAlso the team has every right to demand performance from him, regardless of the disablilty.
BTW: Didn't he go to alchohol rehab? Something in this picture is not coming together for me.
Oftentimes, alcohol and other drug rehab programs are very similar, and sometimes they even combine the treatments. Maybe that's what this was about, I don't know though just guessing.
ReplyDeleteYou're exactly fight Bluefoot, I don't care what the guys problem is, if he's hurting the team we should get rid of him end of story.
After all, we wouldn't hire a guy in a wheelchair to catch passes, not because the guy in a wheel chair is any less of a human, but because it would hurt the team and the individual as well. Enabling a drug user does just exactly that, it hurts the team and the user. A disablilty of any type is sad, but that doesn't mean we should feel sorry for him to the detriment of the team. There are lot's of other players on this team who are just as important as humans beings as K Rob is and he shouldn't be put ahead of them. K Rob's bad choices don't just affect him, they affect everyone on the team, and to put hi ahead of the rest of the team just because he has a disability (unsubstantiated) is unfair to the other players on this team who want to win.
"Also the team has every right to demand performance from him, regardless of the disablilty."
ReplyDeleteEXACTLY!
I feel intelligent
ReplyDeleteDon't you mean, "I feel *gasp* intelligent"?
